Hey, I wanted to start a discussion about what's on the news 24/7 now. An open discussion about anything regarding this year's election. For example, did you vote for Clinton or Obama OR Mccain? If you did vote either one of those, why did you vote for them?
To start I voted originally for Clinton becuase I just thought she was the better candidate, BUT since of course she's no longer in the race of course my vote will go to Obama. Even still I'm not %100 gung-ho on really any of the Presidental candidates this election. Don't get me wrong this is a VERY historic year where we had both a woman and a black man running for President. I can appreciate that VERY much because that goes to show you that we have at *least* made some progression with race and sex. What I'm concerned about with Obama is while I know there are many many people voting for him because they think he is qualified and the best man for the job, there are still some that are voting for him "just because he's black". I'm afraid that is he becomes President (which I am SOOO hoping because that last thing we need is another 4 years of Bush) he's not only going to have a HUGE task in trying to clean up the mess this country now is, he's also going to have extra pressure from SOME white people waiting for him to slip up, AND pressure from SOME black people because they think when or if he gets into the White House he's going to be the spokesperson for EVERYTHING BLACK. This is not going to be the case, he would be the President of the UNITED STATES and EVERYONE that lives here, so there are going to have to be decisions made for the good of the country, not just for the good of black people.
Anyway, voice your opinions, concerns etc, I think it will be interesting to hear what you ladies are thinking on this....

Originally I was torn between Hilary and Obama. The more the race unfolded, the more I liked Obama and the less and less I liked Hilary. Hearing Michelle Obama speak really solidified my choice. Listening to her on the radio one day talk about the Tavis Smiley incident made me see how down to earth she is and something I've never felt from any other first lady. I love the family dynamics of the The Obama family. Some might say that his family dynamics doesn't qualify him to lead the nation but for me it helps speak to his character. Every candidate flip flops from time to time on their side of an issue but character remains and ultimately guides an individual in their decision making. McCain has been speaking alot lately about character. Saying because he was a POW and didn't turn on his country, his character is undeniable. Well this same man came home from the war, cheated on the wife who became disabled while he was a POW, and married his new girl(his now wife) within 2 months of his divorce being final. How's that for character. He's an opportunist and exploting his military service as if that qualifies him to be president. Getting back to Obama, no he may not have many years of experience, but hell look what Bush did to us and how many years of experience did he have. Can it be any worse?
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
What I will say is this is the first election that I actually sit and watch media coverage on (I'm embarrassed to say that - LOL!). I mean I actually sit, am interested and watch everything concerning both democratic (I am a democrat) and republican coverage. This election is popular with all of my coworkers. We can sit and talk about politics for hours (respecting everyone's viewpoint of course) -- LOL!
I am voting for Obama because I think that he is the best man for the job. I thoroughly enjoyed the democratic convention, Hillary and Michelle did their thing.
No matter which way the election goes, history is going to be made. It is a sign of the times. I truly hope that the Obama ticket wins -- he is getting my vote!!!

Also Mccain's age and health are real factors in this. If you just look at how our last 2 Presidents aged since they became President. When Bill Clinton was president he went from gray to completely white with some serious wrinkles. You can also tell the difference with Bush also. They started in there what 40's 50's?....how are you going to take on a job that stressful and demanding IN YOUR 70'S? I guess that's why he chose the V.P he did....yeah right....LOL That is such a cheap ploy to get women voters....
Hillary definitely showed the world that you should be careful who you talk bad about, because you never know if you're going to have to open the door for that person in the future! I was very upset at how she played old politics by throwing personal attacks at him, whearas she could have just kept it political, and even lying about being shot at in Croatia. That one just was the nail in the coffin for me. And then she said, "I forgot"...well I know a women of her high intelligence doesn't just forget. She wanted us to let that "mistake" go, and then hone in on all of Mr. Obama's mistakes cause he is a novice....I was behind her all the way. She burned her bridge.
I am not worried about Mr. Obama because I have learned that "God does not (always) call the qualified...He qualifies the called." So if HE is bringing Mr. Obama to task, he is not going to leave him hanging without the tools to do the job. Okay surely my job is not so important in the scheme of politics but I had no experience in this job, but now I am called a rising star because when I came into my job I knew what God wanted me to do and I do that everyday for pennies and I love it....I think that for him to come up to this thankless position for a few hundred thousand when he could easily be a big-time lawyer for millions shows where his heart is and that's for the people! Republican policy has always been hidden under the guise of "letting those who earn $$ keep their money" and leave the government out"... That really means let the rich stay rich, and let those who can't do for themselves, and are underrepresented stay that way. Democrats have always (well more recently after LBJ) been about helping those who cannot always do for themselves. And sometimes that means that the "Haves" help out the "have not's"...And as a Christian I sure thought that was the hallmark of our ministry and the Task Jesus set us out to do!
Republicans, Libertarians, etc are not for this and I'm not fickle enough to vote for a woman who is a Republican just cause she is a breastfeeding woman of 5 who made the American Dream happen for her. Good for her, and sorry for her troubles but I can see through it. I am voting Democrat with my heart and my mind clear, and my faith strong to know that Experience doesn't always equate to a good job per our last current incumbent! That's why the current job market is always looking for fresh ideas from young, vivrant individuals with a zest and zeal for life, others, yet who still have a clear view of the big picture!
I am not voting for him soley because he is black. If that was the case I would vote for the current 2008 Green Party Ticket which features: Get this: Two Women, and the Presidential Nominee is not only a woman, but she is black! So its not all about race. Depending on the state you live in you will see the Green Party Candidate on your ballot, and yes the Presidential Nominee is Black...Where is the media on that? That one is also historical in itself!
Lets consider race for the purpose of telling our kids that yes, you too can not just be a Black Presidential Candidate...You will be a Presidential Candidate, and thats all that matters! Character matters, and how the rest of these people are running their campaigns makes me not want to vote for them. Plain and simple!

I voted for Obama in the primarys and I will be doing the same in the General election. I voted for Obama because I really like his positions on education. I didn't vote for Mc Cain and I will not because of his thoughts and ideas. I am very pro choice and even though I may never have an abortion I still would like the it to be my choice. His age is not what bothers, me I know many people who are older but they are in better shape it's his health and he doesn't really look like he can keep up. Secondly he really took me by surprise when he said that most middle class families makes 5 million a year.

All I have been watching lately is CNN and MSNBC and Bumble I really couldn't believe it when she said she was reaching out to Hillary's supporters. I was like only because your a women that's dumb especially since they have totally different views. The fact that her daughter is 17 and pregnant doesn't bother me but it's seems to be bothering some people I know they keep saying if she can't take care of home how will she take care of the state of the union. What do you ladies think about her daughter being pregnant.

Well said Bumble. Well said indeed.
Also, I could be wrong (never looked fully in to it) but I also remember reading something about McCain wanting to end pre-tax health insurance deductions. I don't even want to imagine what my paycheck would look like if my insurance came out after taxes.

He probably thinks that is middle class in his world. He allegedly owns 7-9 homes so how can he think like the real middle class people?
I know everytime I see him I pray for him. I pray for his family, I pray for protection, I pray for his strength. I pray that if he becomes President he stay standing strong on his beliefs and don't succumb to the extreme pressure of this job. This whole race needs to be continously covered.
I also pray for Sarah Palin, because I believe that she is being completely used.

I don't think the fact that she's pregnant at 17 is a reflection of Palin's parenting skills at all. My mother instilled great morals and values in me but yet I still got pregnant at 18. What's more disturbing is pics that are surfacing of her daughter partying with bottles of alcohol in her hands. I'm also concerned that she just had a baby with Downs Syndrome and now she's campaigning for the VP spot. I'm all for working mothers but I feel your job should never come before your children, especially a child with special needs, and I don't feel as VP she could devote the time her child needs.

I voted Obama in the primary and will be voting Obama on November 4th. My reasons are simple, I love his stands on things. I am a political sponge. I love watching politics and I've been following Mr. Obama's career since 2002. I never imagined that he'll be our Presidential Nominee, but I knew that he would be big in a very short time. We need to change things. Look at where we are. No one respects us anymore. They view us as a joke. We were once considered a Super Power and we could be once more. No one wants to deal with us. We had to borrow money from China of all people to buy oil from Saudi Arabia. What the hell!!! I'm afraid that when Mr. Obama becomes president, he'd have no choice but to clean up the mess that Bush made. THe same thing that happened when his father was president and Mr. Clinton had to clean up for 4 years, end the war in the gulf and still leave us with a surplus when he left office . I'm voting Obama because we need someone with sound judgement and someone who care about the people for a change. I'm voting Obama because I want the oportunities that we had when Democrats were in power. I want to see small businesses prosper once again.
Now Sarah Palin, I'm sure is a wonderful person in her hometown. I don't know much about her, however, how does managing a town of under 7,000 people for the past year make her qualified to govern billions? If the republican have done their homework on her, they would've never picked her and if she wasn't ambitious, she would've never accepted because she has too many political skeletons in her closet. She's also under investigation for allegedly causing the firing of his brother-in-law for divorcing her sister. Now the man was a louse, but who does she think she is hiding behind her staff to pressure someone else? It has already been proven that all the phone calls came from staffers from her office.
Anywhoo, Obama's my guy and I'm so glad he is!!!
Thanks Ladies,
Soon I also agree that she is being used. Even McCain is not the Republicans' favorite. Eight years ago they were all turning their backs on him, and he turned and cried on Hillary and Joe Lieberman's shoulders. They are pushing this Maverick idea to compare him closer to Obama but its not working. I think that the Repubs are crying foul (even Hillary cried foul) because finally someone who doesn't look like them can run in their circles and raise the money and funds that they can with the same (or even more) vigor, style, candor, and temperment. And they can't stand it...I love it...I see God's hand in this. I am not saying that God is being unfair and unfavorable to Hillary, and the Repubs, but I think that God is moving here and we have to stay in prayer for our candidate of choice. Too long we have been pushed aside and when someone in the past came around they were never able to break that glass ceiling. Sharpton, Jackson, and others have attempted to do that...I'll call them trailblazers, so here we are. So we have to stay and keep him and our country up in prayer.....The worst is yet to come but look to God as your help! God is our help, and we can be heard....Finally. Mr. Obama is leveling the playing field, and he is actually doing it without the help of "them". I was very excited to see Dr. Howard Dean and Pelosi stand up and say enough is enough, lets unite.....I also say Enough is enough...8 is enough...I have had it....God really is answering my prayers...And he will have the last word.....Mr. Obama will not be a perfect President, but he will do an excellent job, and we won't see the Bush-Clinton shenanigans of the past.....

BTW- I definitely am excited as a woman to see a VP nomination! And she is a mother, she seems to be vibrant, intelligent, and for an ambitious woman like me, I think that Mrs. Palin as a woman has some things going for her. Her daughter's situation places her as a statistic (See God's hand here....no God is not putting disfavor, but WE have to see that they themselves are not invincible though they want to appear to be...But this is a season of exposure-i.e. the "would you cheat" post!)....So now that she is being exposed, the Repubs need to stop prostituting God's word and hiding it as "conservativism" (Is that a word ya'll?), stop being judgemental and admit that you got problems too!
But as far as her daughter we'll pray for all of them, cause as women we have to stand to raise stronger women to be good mothers, and good leaders, if not both...We have to be good role models for our own daughters...its a sad situation, but hey, her son (Trig) will be a few months older than his own uncle...Typical Americans (black, white, city-folk and country-folk)! They just need to get off their high horse before God humbles them some more!

Did anyone catch her speech last night? I heard clips from it but was not able to catch the whole thing....but from what everyone is reporting it was basically an Obama bash with no talk of the issues that people really need to hear.
And great point Bumble...if Obama is wins he is NOT going to be a perfect president, and I hope people REALLY REALLY realize what that means. It means he's going to make some mistakes and do things that we may think does not make sense. We all know how this world works unfortunately for any President. If we have a Black President he will REALLY be under the microscope from both white AND black people, some of them waiting for him to make a mistake. He's going to have to work twice as hard to get the same respect, twice as hard to get things done. This happens to successful black people every day in normal everyday corporate america so I'm sure the White House will not be exempt. That's why I reinterate to please pray ladies, pray hard for this man and his family.
I saw it. All she and Guliani did was bash Obama and Biden. They talked tough about experience, and family, and war, being a strong hockey mom. Not once did she mention how tired Americans are about this economy and foreclosures and living check to check. She had the nerve to call Mr. Obama an elitist and demigod, and she basically wisened his supporters to a bunch of blind deaf and dumb worshippers. I still feel like she is being used, and that she, like McCain is out of touch. Still no one is discounting their patriotism, and intelligence, but she is out of touch with the Average American, and thats never going to change. Her skeletons are still not out. She is going to create a mess. I am sorry to say she is going to make them regret their decision.....

On one of the clips that analyst were critiquing this morning I heard her attack his experience! I saw where Guiliani did do... I was like okay..did I miss something? How are they going to attack his experience when she has even less then he has! I really didn't get that at all.
I think she tried to prove a point last night. That she was this TOUGH lady that could handle whatever, but I think everyone knows that she is basically a puppet and a show piece. When I say this I am not discounting what she has accomplished in her career or her intelligence because obviously you do not just become a governor overnight. I'm just saying in this case they only chose her for one reason...to try get those of us that were Hillary supportors to go over to that side. PUH-LEEZE...I'm just wondering how stupid do they think we are. I was not for Hillary just because she was a woman, actually that was not even a topic. Obama and her plans are overall the same, they want basically the same thing regarding the taxes, jobs and economy over all. How will I look going from that to someone who's plan is COMPLETELY diffent just because she happens to be a woman. It's CRAZY!...
I Say BARACK THE VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!

Ladies, to be blunt about the whole sitation, I think the election is going to be a mess just like the mess Bush has made of the economy. Regardless of who we want in office, "THEY" are going to put who "THEY" want in office because some of us are not even going to bother to get out and vote. (My own opinion):|

I watched last night and what she was trying to say as far as experience goes is that Biden and Obama have never been mayor or govenor so they have zero experience. What they overlooked is that McCain has never been mayor or govenor either.
Even though their speeches were full of hate and lies, I think Huckabee, Guiliani and Palin delivered excellent speeches that helped to energize their parties. The speeches were entertaining but lacked any substance.
And how many camera shots of the baby did you count? They about to pimp the mess out of that child. And evertime Bristol isn't holding the baby, she's holding hands with her boyfriend as if we are supposed to believe these two are soooo in love and when they get married it won't be because she got pregnant. Please.
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
That's the thing...alot of people can deliver a good speech. But right about now, people aren't concerned about a good speech. They are concerned about their jobs, gas prices, the war, people's homes, social security, health care....etc....etc....etc...etc...etc.....
And you're right.....they are not only using her....they are using the HECK out of the poor baby. I didn't get to see the whole thing but just this morning on shows like Good Morning America they show the daughther holding the baby, rubbing the baby's hair and all that....wow...
I usually try to stay away from political convo, but...
This whole Republican party is a total JOKE!!!!!!! McCain's little antics of choosing a woman as his running mate is so transparent, and they obviously think the American people are naive or stupid enough to fall for this charade! McCain MUST be kin to the Bush's!! I know I don't want 4 more years of the madness...

As you all know DH is Military and he pretty much says he wants to vote for the one who is most likely to get the soldiers out of Iraq. He say he wants Obama to win but then again he don't. Reason why he does is because he feel he is the best person for the job and he makes a lot of valid points. But he dont because he is left to pick up all the mess Bush left behind, and as soon as one little thing goes wrong people will point the finger at him. Sad but true.

Don't sweat that. People vote a candidate for more ridiiculous reasons than race. They vote because they are the same faith as them or they are from the same state or they just vote their party and not the best candidate. It's what makes our country so interesting.
People will latch on to what they can and him being a black senator didn't make him responsible for all black issues, so why assume that when he is leader of the free world. A conscientious voter knows this. Don't worry so much about the plebeians. They wouldn't be happy no matter who got in probably. LOL
I am proud that he is Black of course. A Black man as the most powerful person on the planet is exhilarating and one so wholesome is even more wonderful. I love how he treats his wife. By comparison to the way the last democratic president treated his, I see it as a move in the right direction for women and marriage in general.

In an age of illegitimate children it is still considered a social taboo when a child gets pregnant. In upper middle class families (Upper professionals average household income over $150,000) it is unacceptable. It sucks, but that is the truth. I think her daughter has put her in an awkward position. I think they will make them marry to legitimize the baby and keep a somewhat wholesome image. I mean if a president's daughter gets DRUNK it makes news for weeks. Homegirl is all swole up and under 18.

Of course you're right, he's never going to be able to please everyone. There will always be someone saying something negative, but it's just frustrating sometimes to hear. My husband and I were watching some show where there were callers calling in. One caller called fussing that she was upset that Obama didn't speak specifically about Gena6 and all that happened in that situation, so it's changing her mind on her vote. The analyst on the show ws like he can't speak on every black situation and injustice that has occured. And just as he can't speak every black injustice, he can't speak on everything that is going on in the white community, or the Spanish community. She said you shouldn't let that one thing influence whether you are going to vote or not. That's why I made that comment, because I think that people not voting for reasons like that will hurt him. Anyway, I know people will be people....it just frustrating how some people think...end vent....lol
It really sucks when I take the time to write out a response to this question and it doesn't post. Maybe I'll post it later.

soontobebride: One of the most ignorant things a voter can do is rely on the race of a candidate to dictate what issues will be most important. Our country is more diverse than simply black, white, or latino. There are many things that we need a president for besides domestic policy issues. They need to talk to their governors, then their senators about issues that directly affect the community. Chain of command can be difficult for some to understand. Even the media will support jumping the chain of command to make a story more newsworthy or to put a candidate on the spot.

Another thing people do is cling to a candidate or party because they pimp the Christian logo. Which is s shame. I often read a Christian website for its scriptures and news and events, and they had a blog on reflections on the RNC and I was appalled to see all the so-called RNC Palin/McCain supporters except one.
What I am beginning to understand in the last year or so is that people are just not going to do what God wants. Yes the Democrats may want to raise taxes (no Matter what Obama says-he will eventually), but its in order to take care of those who don't have. I thought it was a Mandate by Jesus for us to take care of those who can't help themselves. All I heard was how McCain was going make sure those who earn keep their money (I.E. Lower Taxes), and what that really means is that less money will be available for programs that could provide food stamps for those who can't buy food to have a better quality of life or provide programs that could help low-wage earners get better or more health coverage, and thats the reason why I vote the party of the Kennedys because as rich as they are, they get it.
Even the French (Google a NYT Article called the "French Lesson in Health Care") and their idea as well as in the UK is that the Rich and the Haves should take care of the "Have Nots"-Also watch "Sicko" by Michael More....but its like in this country where the Homeless are dropped off half-dead on the porch of the Homeless shelter by the USC med school cause they can't pay for coverage is sickening. The Dems (and Hillary) are pushing for something that would take care of those in need and I cannot beleive that these so-called Christians are not getting behind that! No one wants to eat their wealth....In that case why pay tithes if thats your complaint....But really, putting God first in your attitude of where your money goes, will help relieve the imagined stress these psuedo-conservatives have about losing money....Its a fraud!

soontobebride: One of the most ignorant things a voter can do is rely on the race of a candidate to dictate what issues will be most important.

AMEN!!!!....
Found this interesting. Sure it will be pulled soon from Youtube.
Jamal Bryant speaks on Sarah Palin
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
Please watch the clip ya'll!
I saw that one...I sent it to my dad and he said he has been following Mr Bryant for a few years now. The guy is SMART! And he is for real. He got a GED cause he dropped out after having a baby in his youth, and was (still is from what I heard) the only person to get into Morehouse with a GED. Then he went on to study at Oxford in England, and is now a minister. He has other clips on You Tube and is a regular on TBN and other Christian Channels...My favorite is when he said its a shame when a Black man is called an elitist because he went to Havard, but this white woman who barely got through community college(s), and then barely got her BS degree is considered better than Obama! Give me a break!

You guys prove your intelligence all the time. I just love that and I'm proud of you.
Meet the Press is a great show. More of us should watch it.I think our elections would be different if more people were informed. I am so shocked at how much people would listen to a comedian or a sound bite and come to a swift conclusion about any candidate. Or worse a campaign ad! LOL

Your are so right! You can't base your judgement just off a couple minutes! You have to research for yourself. The purpose of those campaign ads is to make the other person look bad and you look good so OF COURSE you're going to hear the worst from each. It's not until you actually see and hear for yourself that you can make a sound decision and have an intelligent discussion about it.
