My husband and I went to St. Croix and married 8 years ago in May. On our tenth anniversary we are to have our reception (which I never had) and renew our vows. I want my renewal ceremony to be just like a wedding reception. My husband does not seem very motivated when I mention us starting planning. Once I make final decisions he will have something to say. I feel disappointed and a little annoyed, as if he no longer wan't the reception. :(

aw huny, I'm sorry you feel that way. Btw, welcome to the family. Men give me a headache some-d*mn-times. My FH is not a big fan of the whole PLANNING thing, he's not really a PLANNER. He would be happy with just having an impromptu BBQ, inviting a bunch of people over and getting married right there without all of the hoopla. He's like "there will be food and people and thats all a wedding and reception is right?"
Now we can't make him get to work, but any input & support you may need we can definitely provide you that. I say keep on planning and merge those things you know you both like. Good luck. BTW, in case I missed it in a previous post, when is the ceremony?
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way. ~ Pablo Neruda
Hi crrez and welcome! Don't worry about that....go ahead and start planning...look for your spot and make appointments, and see if he'll go with you. Start pulling out catalagues for invitatins, buy a wedding magazine or two and just dig in....he'll come along eventually. He sound just like all the vibrides FH's! Mine was the same, and then when we moved the wedding sooner, and he started to get a visual picture of it then he started putting in his 2 cents....
It will honestly be like this for the next few months, but as it gets closer he'll come around. You do have time (2 years) so remember sometimes men can't wrap their minds around the details of an event that is not for over 600 days.....Keep the faith though...he still loves you and wants to do it! Trust me.

I am still scouting for a location. I am from NY but now live in PA. My family is still in NY. I need to decide if it should take place in NY, NJ, or PA. My date is not flexable (May 16, 2008)so I need to find a place.

Truthfully you have time...so consider your budget and an estimate of the amount of people you would like to see there. Budget really drives the decision of where the venue will be. Since the date is not flexible, go ahead and start calling and getting the places in those states and in those areas to know who you are and what you want and they will try to accomodate you and your date....you'll probably make about 50 something calls and look at just as many menus and packages and prices....but its worth the work, not to mention the visits...Next time you're in NY or NJ, drop by a potential hotel, and sometimes just by looking at the ground's you'll know if its a place you want to research further.
...Once you research where you want to do it, make sure you are ready to put a deposit down no later than next April or May 2007, because thats when people who want those dates in 2008 will book nd get your date......

This is what worked for us. I just put together some ideas and I left what I'd collected in a folder on FH's night stand. In this way he was able to have some input. He eventually became "motivated" (men just are move slowly when it comes to this kind of stuff).

Thanks guys! Does anyone have any good NY or NJ locations that are not in the 20K range?
DEPENDING ON THE # OF PEOPLE OF COURSE, THE ROBERT TREAT HOTEL IN DOWNTOWN NEWARK IS EXCELLENT. THE COORDINATOR REALLY WORKS W/YOUR BUDGET AND EVEN OFFER SUGGESTIONS. THEY HAVE A BEAUTIFUL CRYSTAL BALLROOM AND THEY RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE NJ PAC (PERFORMING ARTS CENTER)

I agree with TAJMOM! I looked into getting the Robert Treat Hotel and my date was booked. Very nice, perhaps you might want to look into that.
