Table setting

Hey Ladies
Just wanted to get some input. My cermeony and reception will be outdoors and the venue doesn't do any coordinating so I'll be responsible for decorting, cleaning up etc. I will be renting everything and I'm trying to do as little as possible in terms of cleaning up so my question is: is it tacky to use plastic plates ( I found some that look real) and tableware. At the end of the night I just wnat to throw everything away instead of having to clean off dishes, fold linens, etc. Please let me know what you think.

CSAP, I don't think it's tacky as long as you use really really REALYY nice plastic wear. Your guest should think that it is real china until they touch it. Please don't use chinette

The companies have become quite creative in giving us more options to choose from. I recently went to a retirement party that used plastic ware, and let me tell you it was nice and looked very real. Good luck CSAP. P.S. I agree with Bossie, Chinette is out! -- LOL!

I am not sure where you can buy "real looking" table cloths. Check with a party rental store, you may be able to rent the linen at an inexpensive cost

Re: Table setting

I don't know how your tables are going to be set up, some people have themed tables instead of number. For example on the seating card at the reception hall it will say Mr. & Mrs. J. Doe- red table or Jack & Jill Smith- Rose table, etc. Or if you will have long tables and your guest pick where they want to sit. But if want each table to be a little diffrent maybe you can try a thrift store. If you decide to do this you may want to start soon because there may not be enough at for your tables in the store at on time.

Bossie you are soooooooooooo STUPID!!!!!! LOL

Ladies, ladies, ladies....FYI, please don't have it looking cheap! I went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago and when I say it was one of the most tackiest weddings I've ever been to - it was! First, they had dollar store cups LIKE THESE, plastic plates LIKE THESE - and it looked HORRIBLE!!! If you want an unforgettable wedding, then get them, because I will NEVER forget that wedding!

Don't get me wrong, if that's all that you can afford, then that's okay, but at least have it set up right to have your table settings take the guests mind off of the dollar store products.

I'm definitely with Bossie...you can rent china and the linens for an inexpensive cost. Most Party Rental places will drop off and pick up the stuff, but you may need your caterers to load the plates and glassware and linens you rent onto the crates they come in....
See if you can find a catering company that provides these things (tables, chairs, linen and all the china, silver and glassware) Its worth the extra fee for not having to worry about who will clean up what.....
If you can't find any platic plates that look like china, your next best idea is either black, glossy plastic plates with black plastic utensils or Clear Plastic plates like this:

Clear Plastic Plates

Black Plastic Tableware

Other ideas:

Okay here is some White tableware

Plastic Wine glasses I think these are cute

Whatever you do: No Solo Brand, and nothing paper!

Re: Table setting

I agree!

Clear or dark smoked plastic is always more elegant than cheap colored paper cups, dinnerware or plates! Plastic is so high-tech now , you can find just about anything you need on the internet..especially eBay, which I am really big on!
Crate and Barrel, as well as party supply stores, Garden Ridge, if you have one near you. Check out discount stores, Tuesday Morning even call up some wedding planners in your town that may know or use someone.

I think gone are those days when you had the paper plates that bent in the middle with the food.Look around ladies and I am sure you will find some elegant stuff.I am using china. It all comes in the package with our caterers. The guest tables will be set for dinner, wine and water glasses and all.We will however be using plastic glasses for the alcohol.

Re: Table setting

You can get the cups that look exactly like champagne glasses. All you would have to do is put the stem on the glass on. They are more elegant then the regular cups. You can see what I am talking about on this website us.weddingstar.com under wedding favors.

Re: Table setting

Hey ladies. I know what it's like. I am celebrating my daughters Sweet 16 and do not want real China. For all these little knuckleheads to go and break one I'd be mad. Here are 2 sites that I thought were excellent:
1.0 Partyatlewis.com
2.0 Servingwithstyle.com

Hope you find what you need. THEY HAVE IT ALL!

we wanted to have beautiful centerpeices for our dining tables at little cost so we used white lillys and found this web site that has these florlytes that you can actually put in water and it allumnites the vase. They were absolutely beautiful. It was probably the easiest part of the wedding and looked as if we spent hundreds of dollars. Re: Table setting

Hi Csap, my wedding ceremony is outside also. When I picked my wedding party, I picked two of my very responsible friends to coordinate my wedding ceremony. They will be in charge of the hosts to make sure everything is returned and cleaned up so there is no stress on me. I hope this helps.

Re: Table setting

I am trying to find those little seating arraignment card the one with the bell and the little poem, but also has a space where you can put the person's name and table number. I keep finding the one's that have the bell and the poem but no where to put your guest name and the table they will be sitting at.

I've used those, just be careful because the stems do fall off. And there everyone stood all night never getting to put down their glasses because there weren't any stems. On the other hand that could be a way to get folks to drink up.
