I found this tip in a magazine I bought. It said if you are at odds with having an open bar or a cash bar you can kind of do both. You can offer your guest complimentary "speciality" drinks. So if a guest orders a "love" they will get an apple martini, for instance, and if they order a "lust" they will get a peach martini. They way this cuts down on costs is if you have to buy your own alcohol you will be buying all of the stuff to make those drinks. But if your guests decide they would like something else, a sex on the beach they have to pay for it themselves. Another suggestion was to give your guests a coupon for one drink on the house and they have to pay for the rest.

this is great advice DW! Thanks for sharing
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way. ~ Pablo Neruda
AWESOME, DWBride! That is the coolest advice and the yummiest drink options. They are fun and romantic. I REALLY miss Apple Matinis! Ever since I gt pregnant (over 2 years ago) I haven't had a drink.

I've never even heard of this! It is really cute and unique. I will be having open bar though.
Although I won't be having drinks at my reception, I must say that this sounds like a very cool idea! The bride and groom could even have one named after them. Thanks for sharing!

I recommended this to FH but he stated that if on of his cousins came up and said "oh I had one of "your wife", he might be a little upset. LOL
TOO FUNNY DW. THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT IDEA. ESPECIALLY SINCE THAT IS WHAT DRIVES THE PRICE UP,OPEN BAR. UNFORTUNATLY FOR ME, FH IS AN EX MILITARY MAN AND SO IS HALF OF THE BRIDAL PARTY AND A LOT OF THE GUEST. SOME ARE STILL IN AND ABOUT TO RETIRE, SO OPEN BAR WAS A REQUIREMENT

We too will be having and open bar.Where I come from cash bars are unheard of.People would think we have gone bonkers. But we can order drinks on consignment that way we only pay for the drinks that are used and the company takes back the ones not used.So good bartenders are a must.
