To cut my budget some, I wanted to go with an italian menu that is cheaper that the 2 entree menu. It includes vegetable lasagna, meat lasagna, pasta alfredo, italian bread, salad coffee and tea. My wedding is at 12:30 so people will be eating about 1:30. Do you all think this menu sound appropriate? Thanks for the input..this site has been invaluable so far

Yes I think your menu is perfect. I wish the place I was having my reception provided this kind of menu. My wedding is at 11:30am and the reception will begin between 12:30 and 1:00 and I have decided to serve chicken and fish dishes because it is so early. Your menu is great and most people enjoy Italian food. I say go for it! The fact that the price is right is an added blessing.

Ask & Ye Shall Receive:
Turkey Lasagna
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup chopped yellow onion (1 onion)
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 pounds sweet Italian turkey sausage, casings removed
1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes in tomato puree
1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
1/4 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley, divided
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
1/4 cup both dried rosemary & thyme
2 teaspoons kosher salt
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 pound lasagna noodles
15 ounces ricotta cheese
3 to 4 ounces creamy herbed goat cheese, crumbled
1 cup grated Parmesan, plus 1/4 cup for sprinkling
1 extra-large egg, lightly beaten
1 pound fresh mozzarella, thinly sliced
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Heat the olive oil in a large (10 to 12-inch) skillet. Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes over medium-low heat, until translucent. Add the garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Add the sausage and cook over medium-low heat, breaking it up with a fork, for 8 to 10 minutes, or until no longer pink. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, 2 tablespoons of the parsley, the basil, 1 1/2 teaspoons of the salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Simmer, uncovered, over medium-low heat, for 15 to 20 minutes, until thickened.
Meanwhile, fill a large bowl with the hottest tap water. Add the noodles and allow them to sit in the water for 20 minutes. Drain.
In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta, goat cheese, 1 cup of Parmesan, the egg, the remaining 2 tablespoons of parsley, remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Set aside.
Ladle 1/3 of the sauce into a 9 by 12 by 2-inch rectangular baking dish, spreading the sauce over the bottom of the dish. Then add the layers as follows: half the pasta, half the mozzarella, half the ricotta, and one 1/3 of the sauce. Add the rest of the pasta, mozzarella, ricotta, and finally, sauce. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup of Parmesan.
Bake for 30 minutes, until the sauce is bubbling.

Thanks for your responses, they been very helpful in making this decision.
Nikki G I see you have a Barbados flag, I am a trini girl myself (Grandparents are Bajan). I was worried about this menu for my trini folk more than the American folk, but at this point...its what's best for us to do.
Ready2006, I'm sure that everyone will enjoy the food and have a great time at the reception as well!

Thanks! I'm going to make your Turkey Lasagne this weekend. My fiance will be back from his marching band tour! I think he will like that.

I wanted to bump this topic because I LOVE Italian food!I would like to add more to the menu.Does anyone have any suggestions?
Born Blessed!
For Entrees I love:
1. Fettucini alfredo with chicken or shrimp.
2. chicken parmesean (sp?).
3. Penne pasta with any kind of sauce and vegetables. This can be eaten with chicken, seafood or alone for a vegetarian option
4. Ravioli (with either beef, spiniach, or cheese-for the vegetarians)
Make sure you have italian breads with lots of olive oil and pesto for dipping, and garlic bread.
Salads:
1. I love Italian salads (la mozzeralla fresca)-which is fresh basil, tomatoes, and mozzerella with extra virgin olive oil, or
2. Caesar salad.
Desserts:
My favorite itaian dessert is gelato, (a softer italian ice cream) or sorbet (usually fresh fruit type) or
Tiramisu is a popular favorite.
I am not a Canoli fan, but I heard they are great!
Of course children can have either like spaghetti or lasagne or ravioli.
A good signature drink can be a mojito, or a dessert coffee drink with Kahlua or brandy or with Amarretto -perfect for the fall season.
Red wine is a must, and can be baught in bulk from like Costco or Sams Club if the reception site allows.
My stepdad is Italian so we always have italian cuisine in our house:)

Thanks,Bumblebee!I've never had Canoli before. So,the next time I go to an Italian restaraunt,I'll try it.Keep those ideas coming,Ladies.
Born Blessed!
Many Italian restaraunts make them different. Some stuff the pastry with a sweet vanilla cream with chocolate chips or others will have fruit and creme in it, so it depends. Just ask them. There are also sweet lemon cakes, the italian restaraunt we went to last night had an apple crisp dessert on the menu.
Have fun. Just make sure the caterer specializes in making Italian cuisine.
