Can you all tell me why is it that when it comes to weddings people just loose all decency when it comes to getting invited. I've had some people come up to me and say..." you need to put me on the list" or " make sure I get an invitation" and none of these people are your family or even close friends just people at church that I'm cordial with but not really friends of mine. Is it just me or is that just rude or inconsiderate. I sometimes puts undue pressure on me as to what to say to them since I do not have an unlimited guest list. Have any of yu run into these issues?

Some people just want to be a part of your day to be nosy!If you dont socialize with them why invite them?
"WHAT GOD HAS FOR ME,It is for me!
June 20,2009 Ill marry my soulmate!
Luckily for me when my invites go out I will thousands of miles away so I wouldn't get this.My mother will, however and I have already told her what to say...."I had no say with who was invited,, my daughter only asked me to deliver the invites when she comes you will have to ask her." I will arrive there a week before the wedding and I know I will not be in one place too long so I will be unavailable.
Make your Mom the bad guy!lol It doesn't matter if she's relaying the message for you they will still think it was her.

And besides all of that it is your wedding and you can invite who you please. No one has the right to question why they weren't invited. I for one wouldn't be upset if not invited because it's your prerogative and that's one less gift I have to buy.

Girl Yes,
My mother is calling me telling me I should invite family that I haven't seen since I was five. And my fmil already informed me that she has made har own list of people. She say's that the mother of the bride and mother of the groom can invite who the want to as well. But DAMN NOT IF THEY ARE NOT PAYING FOR THESE PEOPLE! My fh and myself is paying for everything.

What I tell people who want to invite themselve is we are having a private intimate wedding with my family and his. Some people feel slighted, but fh and I are paying for this so I'm not concerned with peoples feelings. We have to live after this wedding is over and we have dreams and goals that we want to achieve. If I spend all my money inviting everyone then I won't have any savings left. It's not worth it for me.

Rhonda,
I have done the same thing. I have so many co-workers who can't seem to even say good morning to me wanting to come to my wedding. I have basically announced that we both have we large families(which we both do) and right now they are our first priority. This seems to calm things a little. I think it's very tacky to ask for an invite.
I agree with you all. I think it is tacky to ask for an invite. I would not dream of doing that to someone else. I'll rather wait and see if I would get an invitation. I'll be honored if I do and if I don't that's okay too because they can invite whom ever thy please. Afterall it is their wedding.
Well said ladies!

My brother's wedding is this weekend and I almost dread seeing some of the guest that i did not invite to my wedding. I know that they'll be saying make sure I get my invitation. The craziest comment someone told me was "I only buy a gift if I get an invitation", that is so tacky!

I know, that's like giving someone an ultimatum! Don't you know if I chose to invite you or not that it really isn't about a gift. If that's the case we would invite any and everyone just to get a gift.

TELL FMIL YOU WILL BE HAPPY TO INVITE THE PEOPLE ON HER LIST AND THEN GIVE HER THE BILL FOR THE ADDITIONAL COST. WHEN YOU DO THAT, I AM SURE SHE WILL FIND THOSE PEOPLE ARE NOT THAT IMPORTANT AFTER ALL!

One of my friends did that to her grandmother when she tried to invite all these people to her wedding. She told her grandmother that she would have to pay for them if she wanted them there. Her grandmother was all for it until she told her the price/person...Then her grandmother said ...well never mind then.
Ready2006, excellent example. People should just understand that weddings can be expensive and respect a person's right to invite/or not invite who they want, especially if they are not paying for it. I love that example -- too funny!
