I know we like to incorporate a bit of African culture in our weddings even when they are "traditional". Not many will go all out in a full african wedding. That said, What kinds of wedding favors would you LOVE that had an african feel, but still felt American?

I like to see the use of the Wedding broom incorporated. I went to one reception where the favors were mini brooms wrapped in ribbon (noting the bride & groom and wedding date) with magnets on the back. I notice people have been giving CDs as favors these days...THAT'S IT! I've been looking for a 'compilation of wedding songs' using only Black R&B artists and I cannot find one.

The only thing that I am using in regards to the african tradition is basically the jumping of the broom. My wedding favors will be a puzzle with my fh and myself with out names and wedding date.

I always like to see cowrie shells, adinkra symbols, or zulu love letters. Love letters are the best because they're more contemporary and easy to understand. African gold is festive too. It's bright and beautiful and would probably look good sitting on any color table as a favor. Ooh i forgot about incense. Light, tasteful, unobtrusive incense has an african touch without being obvious.
We are using Adinkra symbols in our wedding accessories line. Cowrie shells are a hit with me too! We called Zulu love letters "Zulu beads". If I had known them as love letters I would have paid more attention in my 4th grade art class! lol

For my cake topping I had a black porcelain statue of a man and woman entertwined - it was the closest thing to an african sculpture that I could find and it looked gorgeous. I was surprised because it stood about a foot tall but that added to the cake I think. That might be an idea for wedding accessories - the cake topper.

The only love song CD I think is worth the occasion is the new one by Kenny Lattimore and his wife Chante Moore. I also love Sade, so if someone wants to make one themselves, I suggest putting them on it, and throw in some Sade. They truly embrace the whole "love" thing, without the lust.
