Well, definitely have your daughter be strict and decisive on the color, but one popular theme is letting the bridesmaids wear any style of dress, as long as its the same color. When this is done many BM's order from the same company like Davids Bridal. That way everyone is unique, color coordinated, but they are all comfortable and they have a dress that's complementary to their shapes and figure. I hate when BM's all hve on the same style dress, but someone's dress just looks crazy on thier shape! Alterations go so far!
Okay the question you asked. Tea length and dresses that come right below the knee (I think some are posted above) are really good for any season or formality. Especially if the girls are young. Also, if they want a long dress, a close-fitting dress with a halter top is nice on many different sahpes, but the best way to really determine if a dress is appropriate is to let her either: Take them all at once to pick out a dress of their choice in a specified color (give them a strict deadline or make it a girl-day) or have your daughter pick out 3 dresses in the specified color, let them pick one (gots to try it one though) and go with that if she desires they wear identical dresses.

I will be having a luncheon with my girls next week, and we are going to look and try on more dresses. I saw a dress that I really like and I want to see what my girls will look like in it. I want all of my bridesmaids to wear the exact same dress. That way I can eliminate all of the opinions. I really dont want to get a headache about what this one wants and about what that one wants. I personally feel that the less imput the less headach3e. I explained this to my girls and they dont have any problems. All of my bridesmaids are around the same size, the only big diffrence is that my maid of honor has huge breast, but she will have a jacket to go with her dress.

So as you can see, with good planning, and knowing what you want as a bride, you can get everyone in line. You just have to make sure your daughter makes up her mind before she tells them what dress to wear AND to tell them that if they want to participate, they have to basically wear what the bride wants them to wear-up front!

I dont really think that your bridal party will have a problem with the bride picking the dresses that they will be wearing, It is the brides wedding. I have been in a few wedding and whatever the bride instructed us to do I did. There has been plenty of times that I didnt agree with how the dress looked or the color, but I was honored to be a party of one of the most happiest days of their lives so I didnt dare make a big stink about it. If they truely want to be a part of you special day trust me they will not have a problem with any decisions you make.

House, so true, so true! I actually have a dress that I wore in a friends wedding 9 years ago, it was 2 toned peach and mint green. It was an absolute mess but hey I was honored to be by my girl's side!

Too funny ladies! My bridesmaids could use their dresses again. As a matter of fact, we were invited to a banquet this weekend and my daughter wore the same dress she wore in the wedding. She put a black velvet shawl over it and it was wonderful -- I already got my money's worth out of it.

I think I am going to let my BM's pick their own dresses too. I am going to tell them what color and where to get it from (because I don't want them to be too different) but they can get what their style is. They all have different body shapes and I want them to be comfortable with what they have on!
