Am I Behind On Things?

My wedding day is coming up sooo fast and I feel like there is still so much to be done! My coordinator, who is older, already married, and stress-free, says I have no worries. I'm so nervous, yet excited at the same time! I just want everything to be PERFECT. Anyway, with my wedding six months away (Dec. is pretty much over), I want to know how much should already be done?

Re: Am I Behind On Things?

As I was just typing a reply it got to be too long. I think the more fitting question is, what have you done so far? The smaller things can wait untill a few months ahead of time. The larget things should have been done by now. Reserving a reception hall venue being the most important (especially if your area has slim pickings) because despite how you may feel(and we all feel this way) you are noe the only bride-to-be, and the good venues go fast, especially in the popular spring/summer months.
So where are you in the stream of things?

Re: Am I Behind On Things?

I agree with Msboston, I don't go by the "where you should be" list of things because it depends on each individual situation. Of course like she said you need the basic things taken care of like where the wedding and reception will be held, that is first and foremost. Then everything else depends on the availiablity of the services in your area. Of cousre you don't want to try and do everything a couple weeks before the wedding, but you know it depends.....what have you taken care of at this time?....

Oh yeah...welcome!!!

Re: Am I Behind On Things?

At the very least, your ceremony and reception venue should be booked with deposit paid, and your ideas as far as the theme and the look and feel you are going for decided on or down to one or two options. You need about 4 months (maybe more) for dress alterations, and for the alterations for your BM's dresses. GM's need to decide on suit colors, cuts, etc. It depends on what you need. You just need to give yourself time just in case. Plus the budget needs to be decided on by now. Your coordinator should be able to help you with deadlines so you won't be scrambling to make sure things get done, and you should be discussing timelines according to your needs and abilities.

It does depend on how far you are along already-which we don't know. However, I think that if you browse this website you may find a sample timeline for these things. I have used wedding magazines also....Most are the same. They are designed to keep deadlines from hitting you in the butt, as well as making sure you book vendors in a timely manner....Hope this helps..

PS: Welcome.

Welcome to the site 07 Bride! As the other ladies have stated, we would like to know what have you accomplished already? Do you have your colors picked, have you picked out a dress, do you have a site for the ceremony and reception, etc. What kind of wedding are you having? Large, small, how many people, guests, etc. Once we have a little more information, we can answer the question. Anywho, glad to have ya!

Jayda, looks like you're on point. Lucky you to have the yacht company taking care of practically everything. Do you have a photographer/videographer yet? After you secure the DJ & decide on floral details, you can focus on specific details as the day gets closer.

I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

Re: Am I Behind On Things?

The place that I have selected to host my wedding/reception are providing the decorations such as centerpeices, chair covers, food, wedding planner, and decorating the ceremony site. That is why I chose that place, so I wouldnt have to worry about all of that stuff.

Re: Am I Behind On Things?

Jayda, I'm happy to help where I can :-) Check out wedding insurance companies (like WedSafe.com) & see if they have a policy that can covers vendor liability. I hate it when vendors create requirements like that...They just want you to use their preferred vendors.

I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

Agree about WedSafe, the first venue that we looked into required additional liability insurance through WedSafe(1,000,000 coverage) Its a good idea because you don't want to have to worry about anything going wrong that you would be responsible for. You never know, although you may never need it, it's comforting to know that you are covered
thought about a yacht, but most are not wheelchair accessible and I needed that for my brother. They are soooo beautiful for a wedding/reception. Can't wait for pics!

Re: Am I Behind On Things?

That is a great idea. The reception venue that I am using include insurance in their packages. They also require our vendors to have insurance. Better safe then sorry.
