Welcome to the boards Miabee!
You should secure a CEREMONY site first once you set the date, then look at reception sites, then ORDER YOUR INVITATIONS! Brides wait until the last minute to get their invites and then freak if there is an error on them or they don't go out on time.
Look at the Bride's Checklist.

Welcome Miabee, I agree you should secure a date first and then decide on a ceremony/reception site. Securing a date will make it easier to plan your wedding. Good luck.

Welcome Miabee and congrats. First, choose a date. You can't pick a reception site without a date. Good luck and we are here to answer any and all of your questions. :-)
My advice is the same as the other ladies but i wanted to say welcome MiaBee. Feel free to ask any and everything that comes to mind we're here to help.
Congrats and Welcome! The ladies here have given you excellent advise and I agree with them.
Welcome MiaBee. You are in very good company.
Along with Rosie's checklist-Please review closely- get to know the more popular times to get married. Marrying in the wedding "off season" can save money.
Also, getting married on a Friday evening can be very romantic, and can save you hundreds of $$$-that way you have All Saturday to do whatever. Reception venues tend to mark up the price on Saturday wedding ceremonys and receptions
Morning/ early afternoon weddings (before 11:00 AM) and receptions that start before 12-1PM, can also save you money. For instance, my reception starts at 11:30 AM-which saves us about 10.00 per person (150 people total for a $1500.00 savings(+ tax and 20% gratuity)) because we are using the lunch menu, compared to dinner/evening menus which can be 8.00-15.00 or more per person. There are even some places that have "brunch menus"
Also consider a date or month that is very special to you and you fiance...chances are, that month may be special to many other couples too(especially between April and October) so you need to choose and secure a date fast. (Always have an alternate date in mind. We wanted to do May 07, but in May 06 every weekend in May in Tallahassee was booked by all the best places to have a reception! April was too difficult, so we did it 2 months earlier which was better, but gave us less time to plan-but it all worked out:) We wanted to do it sooner than later anyway!
Keep us posted when you find a date!
