Reception Drama

ViBrides, my Mom has the idea of doing "family tickets." My reception is not a buffet, but is a sit-down dinner, where guests will be served by waiters/waitresses. We all know how people won't come to your wedding, but everyone and their mamas will be at your reception. So, when we send out wedding invitations, we will include family tickets for guests to the reception. All guests are responsible for responding, in order to reserve their seats. If by any chance, guests need more tickets, they will need to RSVP ASAP and let us know . SO PLEASE TELL ME ALL YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS!!!

LOL Rhony!

07~ This is another idea. If you have a guest book attendant, you can have them give tickets to people as they sign your guest book to be sure they were at the wedding. But I guess that doesn't help a lot with RSVPing. Oh well, it was just a thought.... ;)

Re: Reception Drama

I think it's a good idea, but I don't want nor need any added stress. I know it will take hostesses to check each name of the guests and let them know what table they are sitting at. But, we will see.

That seems like a lot of extra work? Good idea though, just as long as you wouldn't be responsible for having to coordiate any of it. If you won't have to...then go for it

I think it is a good idea. You have to do whatever works for you. Have you seen these dinner tickets in a store or where you planning on making them?

Re: Reception Drama

07_Bride, I'm kind of confused about how it will work.

When you send your tickets to a family of 5 for example, only 3 may actually RSVP. So the extra 2 may be given to someone else you may not have wanted to invite. And family may do this because they get so excited about your wedding, they want all their friends, etc to come along, even though you may not have seen these friends since you were a child, or younger. So I guess I'm saying you may want to mention that extra tickets be sent back, tossed, but not given away by any means.

I think the guest tickets can help to guarantee those who RSVP'd only get into the reception, but i still think you should do it in addition to guest seating chart where the hostess at the entrance marks them off and tells them what table they are sitting at.

PLUS, when you send invites, someone told me that you should mention on an insert (or on the invitation if you want) that the reception is RSVP only (just as extra enforcement I guess), and that the word should be spread throughout the family. You can also put that its "RSVP only" on your programs.....So I guess there are lots of ways to handle this.....AND in the event that non-RSVPers show up, you should decide on and be comfortable with the hostess telling them, "I am sorry, but we cannot accomodate you since you did not RSVP!"

Re: Reception Drama

07 as long as it is not somthing that you have to deal with on that day and you are happy about well go for it.
N.B Remember some people who RSVP to say they will come might not turn up and some who didn't respond might probably turn up.A hostess that is competant is essential.

Re: Reception Drama

BUMBLEBEEKEE, I will only send four tickets to each family. When they RSVP, we ask them to include names and ages. If they need extra tickets, they will be asked to inform my coordinator (not me)ASAP. Therefore, for all the reception hoppers, they can hop somewhere else!

Nikki G, I will have hostesses and Police Officers working the door. (My aunt works for the police dept.) so hopefully I will not have any problems on the day of my wedding! My hostesses will have a very detailed, and I do mean detailed "Guest List." It will include everyone's name, age, and table #, so I just hope I don't have any "unwanted" guests...LOL!!!

Maybe it's just me, and I haven't been on in while, so maybe I shouldn't give my 2 cents, but I still feel part of this family and ya'll know I am good for telling the truth. Honestly, it sounds a little tacky to me. I don't exactly get the whole ticket concept. I guess I can see how it will help with wedding crashers, but how it is going to ensure that they RSVP? Once you mail them the ticket, they can show up at the reception with it whether they RSVP'd or not right? Maybe I am not understanding. But what really gets me is the police security. WHY??? Makes me wonder who your inviting....

Re: Reception Drama

(I will quietly walk right around that one while chucklin' to myself)
But about the police detail...I'm having it. That's for a few reasons #1 the venue requres it #2 I am having an open bar (venue won't allow it any other way) and #3 my entire genetically pre deisposed to alchoholism family will be there! What's not to love about having the boys in blue there to keep folk on their P's and Q's?
BTW-who crashes weddings?

Re: Reception Drama

OH MY, SO MANY OPINIONS! WHERE DO I BEGIN...

SeptBride: The age thing is basically so my reception hall can know exactly how many adults and how many children for the price of each meal. I have always wanted an "invitation ony" reception, and that is exactly what I am having. Don't get me wrong, everyone is invited to the wedding!!!

MsBoston: It's always a great idea to have the po po's for all those reasons you stated. You Go Girl!

nlbostic: I am going to try to help you understand. Let's say for example, I send you an invitation with two tickets. You will need to RSVP if you are going to come and use both tickets. When you arrive at the reception, my hostesses will know it's just you and a guest. Now, when I send "family tickets" for aunts, uncles, ect. I will include four tickets. They will need to notify me of the four guests (name & age). By any chance, if anyone needs more tickets, they will have to contact me ASAP. So, no, I don't think it's tacky at all. I believe it will turn out to be very elegant, and quite classy, Honestly.

I still don't understand, but if it works for you...that's great. For example, if you send me and invitation with 2 tickets, why do I need to RSVP? I could just show up with my tickets. The hostess would know I was invited as long as I provide the tickets. I don't know, maybe it's just me...I'm slow today

Ya'll are a trip. But Bossy's right...if it works for 07_Bride, then thats all that matters...I guess ya'll can come out the corner!

07_Bride, you're cool with me because many women are not WOMAN enough to respond to such a direct question without tripping like a baby.

Bossy, you're not slow! Its a little confusing to me too, but I'm like you, as long as it WORKS and its not too much work for the Bride, I'm ALL for it....

...there are still things I don't get. One thing I do know is, it's more work. But, if you don't mind, then it's all good! Enjoy your day.

Re: Reception Drama

07 Bride you show such a maturity. I may not agree with all the things you do or your ideas but it is rare to find a young woman so mature and secure in herself and her decisions in so many ways. I am a grown woman and very mature but I am not sure I cld handle all things with the grace you seem to. I join the rank of those who applaud you. :)
