AM I STILL GETTING MARRIED???

Can y'all believe my venue called and asked me this? I was very upset. Keep in mind, I was having a VERY bad emotional day yesterday. Now, I haven't spoken with him in a few months. He asked because someone else has been nagging him about my date. What kind of mess is that? I don't know of any venue that will call a client to ask them if they still want that day. When I went looking for venues, if the date was taken, that was it. Something is definately fishy! When I booked them, a year ago, he said I don't have to pay anything until 2 weeks before the wedding (I offered to pay in installments). Now all of a sudden, he needs a payment for the year 2007 - maybe like $1000/$2000. Which I can do, but where did this come from? I'm feeling some kind of way right now and I'm really thinking about calling him. The more I think about it, the more angry I get. I mean, where's the consideration? I have made arrangements for photography, videography, limos, DJ - I AM PISSED!

Askalot, that is crazy! That was your day that you booked. Did you get a contract when you booked with them? As long as you have that contract, they can't give it away or ask for any money ahead of the agreed upon schedule.

And you know if they continue to act up, they will have a large group of Jersey Vibrides ready go down there and them a piece of our minds!

Re: AM I STILL GETTING MARRIED???

Yes, this truly sounds like something is fishy?! This is the time to pull out your contract, you don't have to make a payment until whatever date is stated above the dotted line. It sounds like they are in need of some money! If you do decide to give them a deposit now just to feel secure, make sure you leave a paper trail(certified/official check & receipt). Try not to stress your self out, it will work out. And yes YOU ARE STILL GETTING MARRIED!

Where is this place? If you are not getting the service you deserve it may be time to look for another location especially if no money was given. I don't know of any site that didn't want a deposit to hold the date. I am sorry that you are having a hard time, remember that God may have other plans for you.

Re: AM I STILL GETTING MARRIED???

Askalot I would be feeling some kind of way as well. You have every right to feel the way you do. I find it quite strange that he didnt want you to leave a deposit when you book the place. Every venue I went to wanted a deposit. I think that if you are still considering this place to host your celebration, just give him a deposit to be on the safe side. You dont want someone to come offering him money and he gives your day away, of limit you to just one of the rooms.

Re: AM I STILL GETTING MARRIED???

Askalot. I am sorry you are experiencing this. Do you have it in writing that you don't have to pay anything until the agreed date? If not, he will keep nagging you because I suspect that the other couple-who knows the date is taken is offering a lot of money up front. Unfortunately, money talks. We had the same problem in the plans we made to have the wedding in Orlando. We were originally guaranteed a certain banquet room, but all of a sudden, we were told that we could only have it in their restauraunt (which is very beautiful, but the mediterranean decor clashed with our colors)-and it just wasn't what I wanted. The large windows would have allowed other guests to stare inside the place giving us no privacy...So we suspected money was being offered up front by another couple. After some prayer, we decided to change venues:)

I suggest you pray on it, and ask the vendor why he is going back on his word. When you pray on it, listen also to what God is saying. The nagging feeling you get is God telling you to either hold on to it by any means necessary (putting up the money to back the other couple down) or to let it go and search somewhere else. Either way, your aggravation is the devil trying to convince you that you and your wedding day is not important-and you know the devil is a liar! Also, whatever you decide is God's will and it is OKAY:) It WILL ALL COME OUT GREAT! Love you.

Askalot not trying to pry to much into your business, but did you ever call the manager at your reception site back?

OMG the devil is a liar!!!! Shame on that venue. I hope you have a contract. In any event, if that is the place that you want, then give them a deposit (in light of the fact that you have booked other vendors around this place). As Princess suggests leave a paper trail. Talk to the manager and let him know how you feel, after all you are spending a lot of money with them. In any event, I wish you all the best. Please keep the sistahood posted.

Re: AM I STILL GETTING MARRIED???

THanks ladies for all of your kind words and support. Yes, I did leave $1000 deposit Feb '06. I asked him then, "how often can I make payments and when does the final payment have to be made". His reponse (and my mom remembers this), there's no need to make payments, the final payment will have to be made via certified bank check 2 weeks before the wedding.

When I spoke with him on Thursday, he said the reason why he called was he just wanted to touch basis with the '07 brides to make sure everything is still on. Then he said he has a bride that has been nagging him for my date (I don't give a hoot). He then states, his boss will look at the books and see that there hasn't been a payment for the year of '07 and they like some type of payment for every year.

What I think really happened is, the girl wanted the date. He saw the money and didn't want to loose out. I personally referred someone there and 2 months before the wedding, they cancelled. He also told me a story (prior to his call on Thurs) of another bride that did that. If I were to cancel, he could lose 15K for that date. I say that amt because that's the 'round about price I'm paying.

I am going to call him today. But, my other vendor's pricing (DJ) was based around this place because of the equipment he would not have to bring. I had a VERY bad weekend and I hope things start looking up for me. THanks again ladies.

Re: AM I STILL GETTING MARRIED???

Okay, okay, now I understand. That makes sense for him to check in like that. If you can, go ahead and make another payment, and keep the payments up (which can releive some headaches for both parties).

Otherwise, it seems like everything is going well, and I am glad you feel better.

Re: AM I STILL GETTING MARRIED???

I saw this post when I was at a stupid, stupid, pointless orientation and said..."Oooooh I better wait till I get home to reply to that one." But here I am 4+ days later and now that I see what the venue was worried about i'm not so mad for you. Rather I'm glad that you had the foresight to get things in writing. smart move! And I don't care either if if someone else wants your date...too bad , so sad, and oh well! That goes to show you ladies that the early bird gets the worm. (Take note all you '08 and '09 brides.)
All's well that ends well. You don't have to plunk down the $ then...Right?!?

Re: AM I STILL GETTING MARRIED???

Oh yes I know. My brother is ALSO getting married this year on 7/7/07 and they got engaged right before thanksgiving. Well, he is pushing to find places to have the reception.....So I know it can be real hard. I think the only reason we got our date is because we changed our date.

Re: AM I STILL GETTING MARRIED???

I never thought it would be so difficult. I guess that's because I didnt realize how many people get married.

I'm going to give him more money probably next month. The more I give now, the less I have to pay later. :-)
