Reception Help Please

HI ladies, yes I'm just a few months away and I'm still in need of a reception location that is in my budget. Does anyone know of one in the GA area?

The ceremony is in duluth, but I'm willing to travel maybe 30 miles. I found one place the inside is great but i don't like the outside. Plus I looking for something that is not expensive. I hope you can help. If you need any leads let me know. My brother is a videographer and brother-in-law photographer.

Try a nice restaurant with great food that will either cater, or a restaraunt that has a banquet room. Are you close to a bigger city (within a 30 mile radius)? If so a restaraunt there may be available. I think the most important thing is that the food is great and your guests will be comfortable. Sometimes, that may mean adjusting your budget in a reasonable way to increase the opportunites available to you. In the end, cutting back on other things may be worth it:)

Also, a nice national park or garden park may be a great option too. You can find a nice local caterer who specializes in soul food-but has a great reputation to cater the reception in the park's guest/banquet halls. Is your coordinator giving you some ideas? Coordinators usually have a lot of connections and relationships with vendors and can negotiate a great deal for your budget.
Remember that its okay to change your budget, as long as its reasonable! In the end, you will feel like its worth it:)

KMED, Bumblebee gave some great ideas. Are you using a caterer or will your family provide food and beverages? Have you contacted organizations like the "American Legion, the Elks, VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars)". Also, you may want to contact your local National Guard Armory.

Also, there are many colleges and universities near Duluth/ metro Atlanta area. Check for banquet rooms, sometimes college banquet rooms are very inexpensive. Some even have in-house catering. Hope this helps.

Ooh great ideas Plat! We were going to go with a local college who had a great banquet hall with large tv screens and a projector, stage and everything..for a great price. There was even a large lobby on the outside of it and couches. Campuses have very beautiful scenery and photo ops. It was actually a community college.

I also like the ideas of checking out those organizations too. They usually have banquet spaces.

Bee, are you talking about TCC? When we were considering having our wedding in Tallahassee, checked out TCC and they were very reasonable. Since, we're going to have the ceremony in Jacksonville now, I'm going to check out some of those place that I listed in my other post along with some of the colleges.

Yep, I went to TCC and saw the banquet room and was very impressed. I think the only reason we didn't do it was because the restaraunt was even cheaper. However, it was like 2nd or 3rd on the list. So I would recommend anyone do it if you find a great caterer and you like the space.

Hi ladies, thanks for the great ideas. I want to have it at a place where there is a dance floor. That's why I haven't really thought about a restaraunt. I am looking for someone who can do the food also but it's not a must.

I understand. How many guest are you having? FH and are looking at 100-150 guests. We both have large families but that number doesn't include everyone. I understand the possiblity of many not showing up.

We started at 100 then it went to 120 and now it is back at 100. It is just too expensive. There is life outside of a wedding. The reception is what really cost a lot. I'm just standing on faith right now that GOD will provide like he always do. I pray that he just start opening some doors and touches some people hearts. Because I need a great place with a great price.

KMED, Bumble gave an awesome suggestion. I had my reception in a restaurant. They had a "banquet room" equipped with a dance floor upstairs. I only had to pay for the food, the room came along as a perk! It was awesome. They decorated it so nicely -- it looked like a real banquet hall, only a lot cheaper!

Do you have to have a beautiful outside? Is the ceramony or any of the reception going to be there? If you can get the inside up to par then maybe you can deal w/a not-so-fabulous outside? Maybe.
