WEDDING BAND FOR FH'S

Hey everyone, I'm about to get my FH's wedding band, but I'm a little confused about what I want to get. My FH is a police officer and he's in the Army Reserves so both of his jobs are very physical. With that being said I asked a couple of sales people and they suggested a ring made from a metal called titanium. They should me a couple rings, and they were nice, the metal is just darker then the others. They said it won't scratch as easily and is much more durable, but I just don't know....I wanted to get him white gold, but just judging from my ring and some of the scratches that I see on it....AND I WORK IN AN OFFICE! So I can just imagine what his would look like...and I definately don't want him to have to take it off while at work, or when he has drills one weekend you know? I don't know....what do you all suggest? Have you all seen titanium rings?..What type of rings are you all getting your FH's?

Re: WEDDING BAND FOR FH'S

Consider who your fiance is, what he does, how he feels about jewelry, etc, etc....Based on your description, Your man sounds like he may benefit from a simple, yet elegant band with no stones. They have nice bands nowadays with elegant etchings and designs. One of the managers at a restaraunt I am interning in wears a nice gold band with etching on it, that i think is simple, but more than a few steps up beyond the simple wedding band.

Since my fiance doesn't like surprises, I let him pick his band, and then I surprised him by telling him if he liked it, its his and we can take it home today. So of course my flashy fiance picks out a nice white gold pand with 3 diamonds in it! Its simple, but elegant. And he wears rings anyway. Its something the men in his family do. Plus he can wear it to work and not worry about it being too guady.

Thanks Bumble, my FH is not a ring wearer, and he does not do diamondslike that so I know it's probably going to be just a regular band with some type of etching...I'll have to look around more I guess....

My fh is a mailman so I was planning on getting him a platinum band with maybe a few diamonds on the front.

I agree with getting a sturdy band for your FH.

I got mine a 6MM 18K/Platinum band because I wanted something simple, yet nice (he doesn't wear any jewelry and didn't want diamonds). His job isn't physical at all and he's in business meetings most of the day. I also know that it will be the edges that will take a beating with him, so I wanted a stronger metal around the edges.

Here is the style:

I wouldn't get your FH anything like platinum due to the metal being so soft. The band will be looking tore up in only months if you got a softer metal considering your FH's busy job. Instead of considering scratches, consider how many DENTS the metal will have and how easy the metal will get them. Something more than 14K would be best, IMO, if you don't go with titanium. (i.e. 18K or 24K)

Re: WEDDING BAND FOR FH'S

My husband is a teacher and I bought him a regular 14K yellow gold wedding band. It doesn't have any stones because he's not a big jewelry wearer.

oh yeah, I get my info from my girlfriend who works in a jewelry store as the person who melts down the rings, resets diamonds, etc. I don't want anyone to think I just know this stuff. LOL.

Re: WEDDING BAND FOR FH'S

Agree w/classy. I LOVE my ring but since it's platinum(18K too) I already have a few scratches in the rear of the ring AND on one of my posts (that mess p's me off!)I hardly do any rough-housing @work or otherwise either. Trust, if I would have known I would have preferred white gold maybe. I think I too will look into titanium for FH.
Thanks for the heads up.
Love your FH's band.
I wonder...If I paired up a white band with my ring if they'll match up???

Wondering...will he be in uniform for the wedding, or is he going traditional. I happen to love military formal attire, and I see it often enough.

Re: WEDDING BAND FOR FH'S

The only problem with titanium is that it can't get resized if his ring size changes. My FH went with an 18k white gold ring with etching all around it.

My Fh is a crazy Postal worker too. He doesn't want a fancy band either something plain. We just looked at titanium bands and he liked them so we are still deciding. If we don't go with that it will be 18k gold. He is not a real jewelry person either except when we are going out. On another note, we picked out the tux's and of course Mr. ex navy picked out a tux that looks like their old uniforms. They look good though. That's 1 less thing to worry about.

That is something I didn't know....a couple months ago my FH tried on some rings....turns out size 10 fits him perfectly and the store that we looked in had those sizes already there....so it won't have to be resized...but thanks for that info...

You should be proud of your FH. Mine waited until last week to tell me he hadn't went and put in an order for everyone's tux/ivory shirt/shoes. We went to the store 30 minutes from closing and he kept talking on his cellphone to someone about work the whole time - only taking pauses to wave his hand at styles he didn't like and colors that didn't match. *sigh* "Groomzilla...he's on fire..."

Re: WEDDING BAND FOR FH'S

I purchased a titanium ring for my DH to wear at work because he works outside. After only two months that ring looked terrible. It started to turn black (it was silver when I bought it). I had no idea it would change colors. I told him to clean it. He didn't; he just continued to complain and I bought him another ring. This time, it was a comfort-fit 14K gold band.

Re: WEDDING BAND FOR FH'S

Wow. I was considering a titanium band for my FH after reading this topic. My FH is a truck driver, he likes to unload the truck sometimes. Plus he likes to work on cars. But since Cinamin says that it changes colors, I might get him a simple gold band.

Re: WEDDING BAND FOR FH'S

I didn't know titanium turned either. Me being in the military I can say that platinum is definitely not an option. I have seen females with platinum rings and just the type of stuff we do i.e. the range just handling weapons alone can cause metal damage to your ring and he is a police officer so that is not good either. See if you can find a titanium band that has black in them I saw some and they where pretty nice. What ever you do platnium should not be an option.

Re: WEDDING BAND FOR FH'S

The saleslady sure didn't mention it, either. I was so ticked off...I feel like it's money wasted because I still ended up buying another 'work' ring.
From a man's POV, gold is good. 14K gold preferably because 18+K is too soft and 10k feels kind of cheap.

I didn't plan on doing platnium because I heard how easily that can get scratched up. I told FH that we need to go to the jewelry store and pick out a couple things that he likes so I can have an idea..
