That's a nice one. My co-worker is getting married tommorrow and she is having her soloist sing a song by Heather Headley. I dont know if the song is titled After all this time or what. She was trying to sing us a hook.
I wish...My mother recommended this lady, she can supposedly sing like it's nobodys business, but then she went on to tell me how expensive she is. I thought,"what like $500?" no... more like $1200. Shoot,
At that rate she'd be singing me up the isle, down the isle, all through the reception, and outside my hotel room that night! PLEASE...I'm not about to pay 1000 for a soloist. be for real.

These are the songs that I've been thinking about. I just don't know where I am going to use most of them. I do know that I will be coming down the isle to "You for Me" by Johnny Gill which was used in Madea's Family Reunion. The song "When I First Saw You is such a beautiful song. I've been listening at it over and over again these past couple of days and wondering where I coulde use it. I want to use "Our Prayer" by Donnie McClurking and Yolanda Adams for the Lighting of the Unity Candle. I also want to use "Ribbons in the Sky". I thought maybe I could use that as the song when the bridesmaids march in. I also like "I believe in You and Me" but don't know where I would use it. Did any of you see Juanita Bynums wedding? They played the music to "Bless Me" for the entrance of the bridesmaids. I liked that idea also. Any suggestions on a song at the end of the ceremony to march out on?
Depending on your area my soloist was very reasonable(and he has a couple of cd's out) But my dilemma is i cant find instrumentals to jesse powell's you anyone know where i can find it? i get married MAY 26, 2007
The Heather Headley song is entitled If It Wasn't For Your Love. It is a beautiful song , my sister used it two years ago when she got married. It is on her first CD, I think it is number 11.

Wifey, I posted the lyrics in a thread called Father/Daughter Dance.
One of my good friends is going to sing at the reception I think...well maybe during the ceremony. Right now, I'm thinking I want him to sing either "Give Me You" and/or "All That I Can Say," both by Mary J. Blige.
I used "One in a Million You" by Larry Graham for my entrance. Here are the lyrics:
Love had played its games on me so long
I started to believe I'd never find anyone
Doubt had tried to convince me to give in, said, "You can't win"
But one day the sun came a shining through
The rain had stopped and the skies were blue
And oh, what a revelation to see
Someone was saying "I love you" to me
A one in a million chance of a lifetime
And life showed compassion
And sent to me a stroke of love called "You"
A one in a million you
I was a lonely man with empty arms to fill
Then I found a piece of happiness to call my own
And life is worth living again
For to love you to me is to live
A one in a million chance of a lifetime
And life showed compassion
And sent to me a stroke of love called "You"
A one in a million you
A one in a million chance of a lifetime
And life showed compassion
And sent to me a stroke of love called "You"
One in a million you
A one in a million you
For my unity candle lighting I had my pastor sing "He Looked Beyond My Fault" which if the person can sang, is a very powerful song. Here are the lyrics:
Amazing Grace, shall always be my song of praise.
For it was grace that brought me liberty,
I do not know, just why He came to love me so.
He looked beyond my fault and saw my need.
I shall forever lift mine eyes to Calvary,
To view the cross, where Jesus died for me
How marvelous, His grace that caught my falling soul
He Looked beyond my fault and saw my need.
This is a song the soloist can truly make there own. My pastor kept emphasizing & repeating "He looked beyond my fault and saw my need" at the end.
My third song I had my cousins sing in three part harmony was Vickie Winans - Can I Build My Home In You?
Lyrics:
I've been hurt and I've been bruised.
I've been totally confused.
So can I build my home in You?
I've got to find my place
And grow in that space.
So can I build my home in You?
I want to always stay
And never move away.
So can I build my home in You?
(Chorus)
I have had many things fail.
Things I've built my faith upon.
And though I can't always tell
I need someone to rely on.
Then I heard You were the
Rock of all ages.
And I'm so tired of going
Through these changes.
So can I build my home in You?
Can I build my home in You?
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
For You by Kenny Lattimore
If This World Were Mine by Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn
The Day I Married My Angel (sung by Jamie Foxx when he "married" Fancy)
THanks. It is so hard to find a song for the soloist. At my aunt's wedding, the solist sang "Forever" by Jaheim for her entrance, then the solos were, You and I - I forgot the duet that sings this, and The Lord's Prayer.
I am having "From This Moment" by Shania Twain, when we are doing the Unity Sand. I love the lyrics! and also I am going ol' school with Tony Terry "When I'm with You" I'm not sure when I 'm going to have that one sung.
We are having a soloist sing the lords prayer during the lighting of the unity candle. I am coming down to "You for Me" by Johnny Gill(from Madea's family reunion soundtrack) I am still trying to think of a song for my party to enter on.
our soloist (who is also our minister of music) is going to start the ceremony with The Lord's prayer, FH/BM/Pastor coming in on Sadie (cd-The Spinners), my mom-Dedicated to My Favorite Girl(cd-R. Kelly), wedding party-So Amazing (soloist), me-Inseperable (saxophonist is going to play-BIG suprise for FH :)) Unity Candle-I Trust God (hoping soloist can sing it but if not the cd)I am still searching for just the right processional song...FH & I both love music and it was one of the things we both agreed on-to have lots of it in our wedding!
We are beginning the ceremony with The Lord's Prayer as well.
Honored guests are entering to Hero by Mariah Carey.
FH, BM, and offciant will enter to Superfly by Curtis Mayfield (I know, I know! But this will be a big surprise for FH as he loves Superfly and The Mack. Already cleared it with my pastor!).
Attendants' entrance to If This World Were Mine by Luther and Cheryl Lynn
My entrance to For You by Kenny Lattimore.
Haven't decided on song for unity sands.
Recessional will be to Knocks Me Off My Feet by Stevie Wonder.
Hi, I'm Renee and I'm new here and I'll be taking my stroll down the aisle sometime next spring. However, I'm an organist/pianist who's played for boo-coo weddings in the last 30 yrs. Some of you have chosen beautiful songs-"This Day" is very popular. I Believe in You and Me is good too. May I suggest these also: One Hand One Heart from Westside Story, Overjoyed by Stevie Wonder, Nobody Loves Me Like You Do by Whitney Houston and Jermaine Jackson (I'm using this for my entrance), Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This Before (Will Downing and Rochell Ferrell), We Three are One-I can't remember who recorded this but it's Christian. Also, Miracles-by Stacy Lattisaw and my all-time, brings tears to my eyes favorite...A Ribbon in the Sky by Stevie Wonder. I could go on but I won't. If you need any advice on music, feel free to ask. If you have a musician who can play by ear that would be great because some songs you may want to use aren't in print and the musician can listen to the tracks and go from there. BTW, Ms. Boston that soloists mama wanted charges too damn much! I have an M.A. in Music and have done weddings for 30 yrs and charge between $125-375 depending on how much prep is involved and how Zilla the bride is.
What God has joined together let no man put asunder...

Welcome Renee & Congratulations!!! I forgot to mention in my post above that Ribbon in the Sky was my recessional song. I almost didn't use it because I thought to many other weddings used it and I wanted something different but as soon as I met with my keyboardist, out of no where I was like "Do you know how to play Ribbon in the sky ?" I guess deep down I really wanted it. I also used "So Amazing" by Luther Vandross for my bridal party to enter on.
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
Speaking of Luther...don't forget "Here and Now". How about Patti Labelle's "My Love Sweet Love" and Jeffrey Osborne's "We're Going All the Way" and "On the Wings of Love". Stevie Wonder has a song called "With Each Beat of My Heart". It's very pretty but requires a mens' ensemble. My silly FH wants his line bros to sing "My Girl" when I come down the aisle. Not happenin'!
What God has joined together let no man put asunder...
Welcome Renee and congrats on your upcoming wedding. You will find a sisterhood in this site that compares to no other. Whatever advice you need, lay it on our shoulders, and we will see you through it. The ladies here are ladies of unwavering faith and they will be there for you as well.
I'm struggling with this. So far I only have the Lord's Prayer. What songs did you choose?
I decided to use Give Us This Day.
That's a nice one. My co-worker is getting married tommorrow and she is having her soloist sing a song by Heather Headley. I dont know if the song is titled After all this time or what. She was trying to sing us a hook.

Thanks cta & house. I'm going to check them out.
The rest of you ladies aren't having a soloist?
I wish...My mother recommended this lady, she can supposedly sing like it's nobodys business, but then she went on to tell me how expensive she is. I thought,"what like $500?" no... more like $1200. Shoot,

LOL MsBoston, I hear that!!! She would be singing on my honeymoon as well lol :)
Ms. Boston you are too funny!!!
Askalot, my daughter sang "I Believe in You and Me" by Whitney Houston.
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37

Brown: Is there a soundtrack or website where I can view/listen to Juanita Bynum's wedding music? My mom had suggested listening to her music choices.
I don't know where you would find it. My aunt had a DVD so I will ask her where she purchased it and let you know.
princess, try Napster. You can listen to the songs for free after you register (it's really quick).

We are also using Whitney's "I Believe in You & Me." Using the more acapella version. We are also using "Flesh of My Flesh", "Spend My Life With You."
The Heather Headley song is entitled If It Wasn't For Your Love. It is a beautiful song , my sister used it two years ago when she got married. It is on her first CD, I think it is number 11.
