Parent gifts

Not sure on the "proper etiquette" but my motto is MY DAY MY RULES!

I do think the gift should come from you and FH as a couple. Maybe jewelry they can wear to the ceremony. One of my friends gave their parents a plaque. Another gave moms a mini-vacation at a bed & breakfast for all their hard work and dads tickets to a b-ball game. Another gave handmade gifts and included a really nice personal letter. The last wedding I attended the bride felt it was their day so they should be the only ones receiving gifts!

Basically, you and your FH know what will matter to your parents so tailor the gifts accordingly.

I haven't really thought about when to give the gifts yet but I plan on ordering handkerchiefs with a poem in the box to the parents. This place has a really cool selection of hankies and poems but they also let you write your own. It's called New Traditions.

I'm not getting any parent gifts. I just discussed it with myself and decided that my parents better be happy that i'm getting married...that should be gift enough. Secondly, my in-laws are finacially unable to help with the wedding at all (at all) I'm sure I will end up buying my FMIL's dress. Again...gift enough.
Every one else: don't do what I do, it'll probably be considered rude or lacking major etiquette.
I say, "oh well."

I LOVE YOU MsBoston...really...I do! LOL.....I planned on getting some plaques for my parents....but again....it depends on the funds....we are still trying to pay off stuff....people are starting to drop out.....I'm starting to get AGGRAVATED.....

Me, I didn't go out looking for a parent gift either. I did buy my mother her jewelry for the day and my dad, his vest & bow tie but it wasn't done as a sense of etiquette. It was done because it was something that was needed and I saw it and bought it. My parents aren't the type to want a gift anyway. Now my inlaws, they got a free party, gift enough!!

I am getting our parents double sided picture frames. For example there will be a picture of me and my father when I was younger and on the opposite side there will be a picture of us now, and it will be engraved and have a little poem on it.

HW147- the 'thoughtful one of the bunch' LOL...but really your gift does seem like you put thought into it. They'll love it.

I know how to get some tears out of people. I wanted to get them gifts that were sentimental.

I bought my Mom a beautiful rhinestone brooch. She is a church lady and she loves pins and all that kind of stuff. I didn't buy my dad anything as he didn't raise me. Both of my in-laws are deceased so that wasn't an issue there.
