Re: Registry Gift you want most (or best one you've recieved

A lot of that is coming.....my fsil and brother are getting married on 7/7/07....they have very very little on the registry (like 20 items)....so I asked why and she said there is no room to carry all the gifts to Atlanta in my brother's car, so they want money....but didn't ask....so I will be sending the word around to my side of the family because from experience, people will still buy you what they want to buy you, whether its on the registry or not! The only downside is a lot of times, once the money is in hand, people don't buy the things they want/need....they just sit on it or save it, which is good....but for them, they have NOTHING, and so I hope they buy the things they need.....

The best registry gift we received were gift certificates to a travel agency. We still haven't done a honeymoon so it's good to know when were're ready we have something towards it.

Have you guys heard of registering at a bank so that people can contribute to you buying a home? A friend of FH and his wife registered for this and I thought it was a great idea. FH and I already live together, so there isn't anything we really need. I was actually thinking about not having a registry because we probably will only have 100 - 110 people at the wedding (a number of them will be children and teens) and I don't expect people we didn't invite to get us anything, so I don't see the sense in having one.

Travel agency- now that's very creative.
I'm with House on this one, money is the best gift. Can't be the wrong size, wrong color, or in bad taste.

I just don't want to have to run around back to the stores trying to return/exchange tons of useless gifts.

FH and I had a house built last year. Since then everyone has been asking about a housewarming - "When u gone invite us 2 your house?" So I think I'll have an engagement party/housewarming then for the wedding all I want is $$$$$$$$$$ - as much as possible!

I know I could look and find it but...
When is your wedding? I only ask because if the housewarming and wedding is too close together, well...folks tend to get cheap if the have to shell out for two seperate occations that are back-to-back.

Like the kid whos birthday is right before christmas...poor thing because he KNOWS he ain't getting two big gifts.

I thought u had ticker?!?

MsBoston you have stepped on my toes! My birthday is December 20! I know exactly what you mean.

My wedding was September 2 but we had a little problem with our original reception hall. We have to choose a new date now and its looking like it will be next year, probably Memorial Day weekend.

I just had my bridal shower this past Saturday and I got exactly what I wanted most, gift cards and money. I got a couple lingerie sets and other things, but it was mostly gift cards. I'm hoping it will be like that for the wedding also!

How did you spread the word that money/giftcards is what you really wanted? or did you not have to say?

Money. I registered with Honeymoon Wishes. It works just like a gift registry but you get money! :-)

All I did was register at one store (Target). So on my shower invites I asked that they put registered at Target and will accept gift cards from (insert stores here). So from that and just conversations I had with some of my invitees most people got that all I wanted was either money or gift cards.

MsBoston, alot of people will ask whomever is giving the shower for gift suggestions (even with a registry) so make sure your MOH & bridal party is aware you prefer money. They will get the word out for you.

Re: Registry Gift you want most (or best one you've recieved

The gift I want most is the entire set of B. Smith everyday serving platters. I can't wait until we have our first house party and I can display my culinary creations on all those pretty trays (I love to cook and I love to party)!

Now if you ask my FH what he wants most he'll say the two things he picked out by himself -- a pressure cooker and this power-juicer thing that you can stick like a whole entire orange in and it peels the skin, strains the seeds and gives you nothing but juice. Now ladies, we know he ain't ever gonna use either one of those contraptions but more power to him!

That's funny about what your FH wants. My FH wants the "Set it or Forget It". I don't know if you all have seen the informericals about this cooking device thingy where you can cook whole turkey's, roast, hams etc in it. It's kind of like a rotisserie oven. My question to him is exactly how many times will we be using that? But he swears up and down he wants it.

Soontobe, that is too funny. It must be a man thing with these infomercials. That's exactly where my FH spotted that power juicer and the pressure cooker. He'll sit up and watch those infomercials all day! But that's OK, because when I go crazy and start ordering jewelry from HSN and QVC he can't say nothing! Lol

I agree, I think that if there is something you really want, make sure you drop MORE THAN A FEW hints to family members.
Oh yeah, my husband had a few things he liked that he registered for and actually got. He put this red toaster oven thing from Target and this Iron from Macy's on there and then he did a little dance when he saw he got it.....
The downside of registries are definitely having to go back to the store to take things back or use the credit to get something else.....Some people actually got us things from ANOTHER store we didn't register on...so we got the nice wafflemaker and stainless steel pots/pans from Macy's and cheap ones (both) from a store we didn't register on so of course they are just sitting in the house. We have NO IDEA what to do with it.....

Regift,Regift regift. Now you talking my language...LOL

One of my gifts was so bad, I'd be embarassed to regift it. I was a soft pink satin lingerie set that was trimmed with some cheap itchy looking hot pink lace. The front and back of robe was satin but the sleeves was some sort of fake chiffon (an even lighter pink) and trimmed in the same itchy hot pink lace. HIDEOUS !!!

Re: Registry Gift you want most (or best one you've recieved

Hahaha! Girl I just "re-gifted" that toaster and the "other" wafflemaker to a couple who got married yesterday...They planned the wedding in 2 weeks and didn't set up a registry. I tried to get info on what they wanted but couldn't. So when I discussed buying ANOTHER wedding gift for another one of the 30 friends who got married in the last 10 months...he rolled his eyes(about spending more $$) and looked at the pile of wedding gifts, and pointed to the things we got 2 of or didn't register for and with a huge smile on his face he said..."wrap those."

Re: Registry Gift you want most (or best one you've recieved

We already own a house and its furnished so im keeping my fingers crossed that we dont end up with 5 toasters and 6 blenders

We sent out the hint for money and also did a honeymoon registry instead of registering with a department store. We could really use money towards the honeymoon that would be a GREAT gift.

The honeymoon registry that we are using is free
we just set it up and it lets you add whatever you want. People actually just print out the page that indicates which item of your honeymoon that they want to contribute too and then they attach the check for the amount of the item and they give it to the bride and groom... Hopefully that will keep us from having to rent a U Haul to move all the gifts of small appliances ..LOL

The best gift from our registry was a set of China. I've always wanted some China. The most unusual gift was a paper shredder. Believe it or not, we use that gift more than any of the ones we got. My girlfriend gave it to us. I would've never thought of buying someone a paper shredder for a wedding present, but it is a really nice one and we use it all the time.

I am using honeyfund.com
I like it better than a lot of the other registrys that I looked into
This one does not have any fees associated with it and its free and easy to use

I found several others that charged a percentage of your gifts as a fee (I wasnt trying to just give away money..LOL)
I can forward you the link to mine if you want to see how it turned out.
