Hello ladies, I have been a frequent visitor to the site, and may comment on a post or two, but this is my first official post. I am not married or engaged. But I have looked over this site many times and have seen so much wonderful advice given and so much love shared that I had to join without even having the "wedding blessing" on my plate. I have a question for you ladies. How do you all feel about a woman proposing? I know that most of you have been in long term relationships and probably discussed marriage with your mates for a while before the actual proposal. I have been dating this guy (the love of my life) for only a few months now and I know he is the one. I did not believe in love at first sight until I met him. I can tell he feels as deeply about me as I do about him. Our families can tell it also and refers to us as their in laws. We have discussed the spending the rest of our lives' together. I want to get the ball rolling on the proposal/engagement so that we can get true wedding planning in place. Is it okay for me to propose? If so, how do I go about doing it? Please help me ladies. Share some of your wisdom.

Why don't you put and ad in the paper, fix him breakfast in bed and bring him the newspaper with the article open and possible highlighted. Or you can take him out to his favorite baseball game, basketball game, or football game, and have them put the proposal on the big screen. You could have an intimate dinner with just the two of you and you can ask him while you two are alone. You can purchase a t-shirt with will you marry me on it and just wear it around the house, or you could purchase a billboard and have a message on that. You could also hire someone to write it in the sky, or on an airplane with a hanging sign. Or you can wait until he goes in the bathroom to releave himself and ask him while you are on the other side of the door. lol

your a hopeless romantic housewife great ideas i would suggest talking to him and feel him out about being married, and if thats something that he wants then girl go for it. have a party for two ballons his favorite dish by candlelight and you in something very sexy get champagne and a card you write just how you feel about him in it and present him with a cake asking him to marry you, if you love each other and are happy together i see no reason you cant pop the question. Good Luck
well jlanetteb we live in a morden wolrd now were it dont really metter who does what first and gulr u mite just find out he been thinking the same too ..soo u starting it mite just make it all easy lol since yall already talked about spending the rest of ure lifes to 2gether i think its the rite time soo U GO GUUUUUUURRRLL! theres is nothing wrong with a woman proposing and hes the love of ure life like u said soo its time to get the ball rolling .. good luck sis !!
I may be a bit late in this, but adding to the sentiments of my sisters I have to agree first and foremost with pebbles ~ don't be too obvious, but one night, when you guys are either in bed or on the couch watching a romantic movie, try nudging him a little by asking different questions about being married. Just play different scenarios to see how he reacts. If he's sweaty and nervous about answering, then, he's not ready. If he answers without hesitations to your questions, then, I would foreshadow Housewife's sentiments about planning on doing the proposing yourself.
I don't think there's nothing wrong with a woman proposing. Sometimes, the guys are just as scare of our reaction as we are about theirs. Maybe he's thinking of the same thing and just can't work up the nerve to ask you yet because he may feel that you may think that you guys haven't been together long enough. You never know. So I say, cuddle up to your man and find out really how he feels about being married or marriage in particular. Then, you can plan the big romantic "To Do" about proposing. Good luck to you sister.
I have mixed feelings about this one! I agree with other ladies on one issue-feel him out and see where his Heart is...
Before DH and I were engaged, he mentioned a few times that there would be nothing wrong with me asking him but I don't think I personally could ever be the one doing the purposing. Yes we are living in modern times but I guess I'm old fashioned when it comes to this. I think if a man wants to marry you, he'll ask you to marry him. You've only been dating a few months so just be patient and give him a chance. It's an indescribable feeling when the man you love asks you to be their wife. Don't cheat yourself out of knowing that feeling.

Hi Jlanetteb! Welcome to the site. My brother's wife proposed to him. I believe that if that is something you want to do -- go for it. Follow your heart. This site is all about creating your own traditions -- so create your own. The ladies have offered some great advice on how to go about popping the question. Good luck and let us know how things turned out.
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
I agree with soon2bmsj; I doesn't really matter one way or the other. I think you REALLY need to talk to him first. Just like my fh did me. He kept asking all kinds of "what if" questions and I answered them truthfully. I felt like he would propose soon after that, and he did. So like the other ladies have said, follow your heart and PLEASE pray about it! God will show you what direction you should go.
Ladies, thank you so much for the quick responses and wonderful advice. Pamcrow, I have been proposed to before and I've known that feeling, but, I think you might be right. It may be different coming from the love of my life. I will listen to you all on the feeling him out. We have had the conversations. I always ask him the what-if questions, or how do you feel about questions. I may need to ask a little more.I think I will give "us" a little more time to see what happens. You are right MrsHudson, God will show me the direction. If I'm led to proposing, I will follow these wonderful suggestions. I especially liked yours Housewife147 about waiting until he goes into the bathroom, lol. Thanks again ladies.

Hello All, I first came to this site in love with a man that loved me and I wanted to propose to him. I took time to get over the idea of proposing and let the relationship "do what it do." I didn't want to cheat myself out of a proposal, as some said. I'm glad I listened to those people. On December 24, 2008, my sweetie proposed to me. I am officially engaged and have no true idea where to start.

Congrats on your new engagement! The 1st thing I would do is select a date and begin discussing a budget with your FI. Once those have been established you will probably want to begin your search for a venue. As far as other vendors that are priority I would say officiant, photographer, videographer, coordinator, and caterer. You could begin thinking about themes, colors, your dress - there is much to do! We're here to help you along in any way we can. Here is a timeline that helped some as I planned:

My internet connectivity failed, and now I can't log in,
Thanks ladies for your fast responses. I love that timeline site. It is very detailed. Okay, I do have a few things decided. I've always wanted to get married June and since I got my e-ring at Christmas, the wedding theme is "Christmas in June." We will be getting married June 19, 2010 (Father's day weekend). The colors are Apple (red) and Platinum (silver). We haven't agreed on a budget, cause he thinks I'm being too extravagent. But that's to come.
AWWWW HOW WONDERFUL!! CONGRATUALTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow-this it literally the most romantic thing I have heard in a long time, I started reading from the beginning (I missed out on the original scoop) how did he do it?? congratulations!!
Congrats! I'm so glad you waited and let him do his thing. I'm all for a woman taking charge, but just as we dream of being proposed to by the man we love, I'm sure they also dream of proposing to the woman they love. It's a wonderful moment that you'll remember for the rest of your life. The additional bonus is that you've spent a few more months getting to know each other.
My hubby and I also got married on Father's Day Weekend. It's a great weekend to get married. On Sunday you can do a post wedding brunch/Father's Day celebration like we did. I love your theme! Christmas is a warm, wonderful time of the year. Congrats again, and welcome back to the site.

Wow sister, I'm so very happy for you. Though I'm all for a woman proposing, but I'm so glad that you waited for him to do his thing. It's a magical feeling that you just can't totally explain, the day your man proposes. So, welcome, my 2010 sister bride. We're here for you and listen, it's never too early to start blogging, it helps keep all your ideas on that one page, so I'm looking forward to reading your blog, just as soon as the little kinks with our favorite website are fixed.
Again, Congrats to you sister on your engagement and I love your theme "Christmas in June", so wonderful.
Congrats on your engagement. Happy Planning!
Love, love your idea of "Christmas in June" These are what comes to mind when I think of your event.

Congrats on the engagement. I love your theme. For an element of fun, you could do snow cones, maybe peppermint flavored. Sounds cheesy, but i'm sure you could make it work. Definetly fits the theme.
You could also use rock candy for favors. The crystalized look of rock candy reminds you of snow & ice.

Thanks ladies for the many congrats and ideas you have already given. I love the ideas you have shared so far, I really love that cake ginoue, I've really thought about the gift box cake. I am crazy about those flowers mrs.keepup. Please ladies, keep the ideas coming, I'm an empty canvas, paint me.
Okay, here's the proposal story.
On Christmas Eve every year, my family gets together to open gifts. Well, this past year was no different. We were there opening gifts but my then BF was with his family. He called and told me he was on his way but he took a long time getting there. So, my family members kept asking, where is he, when is he coming, I think you need to go and get him. I said, "don't worry he'll get here, is just slow about getting places." I had already given them gifts from him, so I was really wondering why they were so eager to see him. I didn't let it bother me too much as I was enjoying my time with my family. After we had finished opening all of the gifts and eating, it was getting pretty late and still no sign of my BF, everyone was making excuses to stay. I said, to them, "ya'll need to go ahead and start going home, santa's gonna come soon and you will never be able to get any sleep." The continued making excuses and finally my sweetie came. He came in empty handied as we have already had his gifts at my mom's to pass out. Everyone watched him like a hawk and I was none-the-wiser. I had no clue as to why. It was point after he had gotten there that he was down on the floor and my mom said, "since you're down there, (I just knew this was the moment) look at my house shoes someone gave me." He laughed and she laughed, they played a little trick on me, I guess. Anywho, the night progressed, and people finally started to leave while still watching him. Yet, no proposal. So, at 11:47pm I sent his gifts to his family down to the car, he comes back up with a Kay Jewelers bag and says, "Merry Christmas." I look at the bag thinking, oh, he got me that tennis bracelet that I've been eyeing. I look at the box and it's too small to be a tennis bracelet. I then start thinking, well, maybe it's some diamond earrings (i had stop been so hopeful for a ring). I opened the box, and there's another box. I opened that box, and there's another box. I asked, "is my gift a box? Do I have to pick which box I like the most?" He says, "yeah, tell me which one you like and you can have it." So I continued to open the boxes until I got to the final box. I opened this last box and it's a beautiful ring!!!!! I screamed!!!! I said to him, "you went to Jared's?" He said, "huh?" "I said, you went to Jared's?" He laughed and said, yeah. Without thinking I ran to my mom and woke her up and said he went to Jared's. She asked to see it and then I thought about the fact that I never told him yes. I went back to him and said, "wait a minute, does this mean what I think it means?" he said yes, I grabbed my man and hugged and kissed him. I never really said yes, but he knew hat was what I wanted more than anything, so the answer was understood. The next day my family members called me asking what he gave me. I told them as if they didn't already know. I found out that he and my best friend picked out the ring and my mom had told everybody about it. I never thought she would be able to keep a secret from me, guess I was wrong. Anyway, here's a picture of my ring.

Anytime honey, I love to share details and pictures. We are totally happy together. Both of our lives' have gotten better since we've been together. Thanks for the infor about Turiya, I will check out her blog. I think I'm doing strawberry inside the cake because we are both huge lovers of strawberry. I really don't know for sure yet.
