Need help decorating reception area

Last night I want to my reception place for my nephew in laws birthday party and saw how it look. The walls were painted yellow and red and room is also small. When i saw it I wanted to cry. the room looked so different from when I saw it new years eve. I can not even get another reception hall because I made a compromise with FH to have the reception at his family place and I have the wedding at a church. How can i cover these walls up and make table space for 50 people. I feel so stress out right now because I though I would only have to do the center pieces but now I have to do the complete room and decorate the church too.

Okay, I could do that, but what color would I use, my colors are red and white which color should I use on the walls white or red. I don't know which color to use and how would I hang the fabric up.

I don't know about hanging fabric. In order to make space for 50 people, a good idea would be to seat the people at long tables instead of round tables. So with 25 people to a table, you would need 2 long tables. With less to a table, you would need more tables of course. But that would still make room for the people. BTW, when is your wedding?

My wedding is november 22, 2008, and all my wedding plans are still up in the air. The only thing I have done so far is buying the flower girl's dresses. Do you know what size table hold 25 people is it 2-6 inch table or 2-8 inch table

Most of the time, 6-8 foot tables are available to rent. So maybe you would place 2 8-foot tables end to end to accomodate 25 people on either side of the tables. I would check with the rental people to see what they say.

Re: Need help decorating reception area

Please try not to panic Ivery. First and foremost, you need to know the size of the room that your reception will be held in. Then, maybe as VIPrincessbride said, the only way you could make this work is by using long tables. I have a few pictures I could show you, but the thing about covering the walls ~ not such a great idea. It would look too tacky. However, I'm not totally opposed to some fabric on the wall. Let me know the size of the room. Were you also hoping to have space for dancing? come back with the info sister and I will help you design your space. It will be just fine. We've got your back.

Here's the picture I promised, eventhough the colors are not your wedding colors, but maybe, you could arrange the tables that way and maximize the space you have.

Re: Need help decorating reception area

Ivery those are great pictures that Ginoue provided. That should give you a visual of where to get started. As far as the walls, I wouldn't worry too much about the color because once you arrange your decor in the room with centerpieces and all, that will draw everyone's attention and they won't even see the wall color.
So stop stressing Girlie... As Ginoue said "We've Got Your Back"

Re: Need help decorating reception area

Ivery since your wedding colors are red and white and the room is yellow and red, why not incorporate a few small punches of yellow in your decorations. To divert attention away from walls you will need something truly eye catching on the tables. If you decide to do the table layout Ginoue pictured above, go bold with red table linens, maybe a white table runner down the center and LOTS of votives. To add more visual interest to room I suggest centerpieces of different heights but since space is small, nothing too tall or too wide. Sprinkle table runners with lots of petals adding just a few yellow petals here and there and you will have a well coordinated look.

Re: Need help decorating reception area

Hello everyone:

Thank you, for the help. The room is about 22 by 35 and it is a little bit longer then the room in the second picture, yes I need a dance floor. Should I put yellow flowers in the Centerpieces or just sprinkle yellow rose petals on the table.

I was thinking if there is not enough room left for a dance floor, after eating dinner I should remove the table for the dance floor. What do everyone think.

Ivery yes, use a few yellow flowers in your centerpieces as well as petals on your tables.

As far as removing tables for dance floor, let me first ask you how were the other parties you've been to there set up? Was there dancing? Is there someone at the hall you can talk to about room set up? If so see if you can view the room with both banquet tables and rounds to see which set up will give you the most amount of space for the things you need.

Re: Need help decorating reception area

I have been to parties there and they only use 1 or 2 tables that are banquet to put the food, and then they put them against the wall and have everyone else stand.

Re: Need help decorating reception area

Can you frame the room with tables? Like if everyone is seated, their backs against the wall, facing the center section which would create your dance floor. For the head table you can have a round table in between 2 rectangular tables. Then just rectangular tables for the rest of your guests. If the rectangular tables are 8-ft they can sit 4 people on each side plus one on each end. That means you would need 5-6 tables. You can have:

2 rec. table on east wall
2 rec. table on west wall
2 rec. tables with round in middle on north wall

The DJ and food can be on the south wall.

Hope that makes sense.

Re: Need help decorating reception area

Ivery,
I think KeepUp just summed it all up. Putting the tables around the perimeter of the room is a great idea. enough room for the dance floor and everything.
Good idea KeepUp

Re: Need help decorating reception area

I know that you're having only 50 people at your reception. How about Future's idea of framing the room partially with tables. If you decide on the rectangular tables, you could take future's seating advice. I think you'd be very surprised, but it will definitely work out and you'll have a small dance floor in the middle to boot.

Do a trial run and have your table lined up as we suggested, you'll see, everything will be just fine.

Good luck to you!!!

Thanks Plat!!! The 2nd pic was my crew setting up for a reception. But that room was air tight and we sat 80 people there very comfortably. She was one of the basement rooms in her apartment complex to host her reception. Everything turned out great and all was happy. So, you see Ivery, Imagine what could happen with your space.

Welcome ivery2139!

I would dim the lighting in the space to detract from the walls and keep the focus on the head table and the cake table (Table Lighting). You can do inexpensive candle centerpieces that would add atmosphere or you could use Waterproof lights in your arrangements and recreate your wedding colors that way.

I personally prefer round tables. No one will feel like they are backed into a corner. They create intimacy and make conversation much easier. Your room is big enough for 5 or 6 round tables too and a straight table for the head table.

Ooh 50 folks! Take advantage of a potentially intimate evening:

I know this is a long table, but you get the idea...Reds are rich and bring intimacy. Like Rosie said take advantage of lighting alternatives

These are more examples if you do the straight tables...If they are arranged well, you can create an initimacy without the guests feeling vulnerable...If you choose to do round tables, mix it up with some square tables to create space....Have fun! I would try some table cloths with rich reds and top with a mix of short and tall candles creating a long line in the middle....surround their bases with lots and lots of petals to make it seem like the candles are in a sea of petals....

Keep working on it...You will come up with the appropriate arrangement!
