Battle over the reception

Hello ladies:

My FH and I had an arguement over how to do the reception. He wants to treat the reception like a regular party and have only chairs for the guests to sit or have them stand. and I want a traditional reception with table, chairs, flowers and linens.

I explain to him that this is a one time day and I am not getting marry again and I want it to be perfect, and I also told him that if it is not right and it comes out crappy we will also have to deal with both sides of the family and friends who are from Jamaica talk bad about the reception and us.

We are suppose video tape the reception with it being such a mess and I know video taping is expensive. So, I decide to get tables and chair for my side of the family and friends because I have elder people on myside and I want them to be comfortable.

His friends and family and can stand if he want to do it like a regular party.

Re: Battle over the reception

Having SOME chairs for people is difficult and will exaberate the problem.....No one stands much at parties either.....Just order the tables, and maybe give in on something else he wants...Having some people stand and some sit is kind of weird...

Plus his sideof the family may come before some of your family members and sit right on down. He is being a little unreasonable.

I agree with Bumble even though he doesn't want the chairs and tables, I think you should still have them and let the guest choose whether to sit or stand.

It will be a success and then he will be thanking you later.

Thank you both, he is so stubborn and sometimes he doesn't listen. I was going to get the tables and make a seating chart and reserve the table for my family.

So, who ever is on his side of the family can make do.

Great Idea Ivery! A seating chart would work great.

Men really don't understand the concept, but when your guest are saying how nice everything is (linens, table settings and all) he'll appreciate your judgment.

Re: Battle over the reception

Just instruct the person at the door to say nice things when his family comes to the door like....Oh you have a choice at tables 6, 7, and 8.....We did a seating chart for our parents and grandparents, siblings...and we let everyone else sit where they want (per my DH desire not to have a seating chart at all)....well everything went fine except one of his aunts who wanted to sit at the table with his siblings who were sitting with my siblings and she freaked cause her NAME wasn't on the table and had words with my WP....She didn't even know it was the groom's decision to not even seat her at a "reserved table"....What I sould have done is just worked on the seating chart myself for the whole reception, and passed it to the WP...he wouldn't have even known...we told her when we arrived later and saw her all pissed that she could sit where she liked, but she had already caused a big rukus inside......So I would just keep that in mind when having reserved tables for "certain folks", or just put in the work yourself, and let it go....people get up and mingle, and move around, then switch up anyways.....

Chairs & Tables Ivery. Men are clueless when it comes to some things. If I told you some of the things that my husband suggested, I would be laughed at. The thing is to just go ahead and plan, trust me he will be thrilled in the end. My husband thanked me for going ahead and doing "my thing" because it all worked out and we had an unbelievable dream come true wedding. All the best to you and your fiance.

I agree with the others. Men don't have a clue with it comes to planning weddings or receptions. He can still have that "party-like" atmosphere but I think you should stick to your guns. Some of the best receptions I've been to were "traditional". Once everyone had eaten and the music started, it turned into a party. The ladies have given good advice. Let us know what you decide.

Re: Battle over the reception

Hello everyone

And thank you, I have been so stress trying to get everything together, and I have decided to get the table and chair because I want everyone to be comfortable. I hate going to an event and standing all night.

So, from now on I will make all the arrangement for the wedding myself and have him deal with the wedding photo and the limo because he is very good at getting things at a cheaper price.
