Makeup Choice

What is better Airbursh Makeup or Traditional Makeup?
What have or what are you gonna do?
I am curious because I can't decide on which one.

Re: Makeup Choice

Well the make-up artist that I will be using does both airbrush and the traditional make-up applications. She informed me that since I was getting married in the summer and will be outside, she did recommend the airbrush. She said that due to the temperature that when I start to sweat the is would start to run.

OK ladies, which makeup would you wear if you never wear makeup? I am a lipstick or gloss girl. I went to the mac store in the mall and did a trial run on my makeup and my face started itching. When she took it off, my face had brokenout and it was still itching

Re: Makeup Choice

Atownswifey ~ while Mac is great, but it's not for everyone. I broke out as well. My makeup artist made a few suggestions. He suggested that I used either Fashion Fair or Flory Roberts. It's a bit on the pricey side, but definitely worth it. I love both Fashion Fair and Flory Roberts. they are both so flawless. I would suggest you go to the Macy's make up counter for both Fashion Fair and Flory Roberts and to a trial run (well, not both on the same day) and see which one you like better. Be that they're both such established make up line, they will never run out or go out of business.

Another thing that I found works just as well is the new Queen's line, designed by Queen Latifah by Maybeline. You might like that as well.

Re: Makeup Choice

Ginoue, I heard about the Queen Latifah products, I definitely have to check those out!

I was thinking of going to the Mac counter too, since everybody is always raving about it. But I'm glad to have those heads up! I have sensitive skin and I don't wanna run any risks. I wonder if its from all the unnatural stuff they put in the products. I saw an infomercial about some makeup products called "bare essentials" that only use natural ingredients and are supposed to give you the natural look. Hmmm...something to think about.

The Queen Collection is from CoverGirl. Also try Mary Kay.

Re: Makeup Choice

AS far regular of airbrush, I would do a trial run of both and see what you like. Start with the regular make-up b/c airbrish is a one-time deal, but if you buy a few pieces of make-up and you like it after that, you have something to keep that lasts longer.

I also heard that Neutrogena products are hypoallergenic. Mary Kay is not hypoallergenic, but it is non-comodogenic, meaning that the product is less likey to cause break-outs like acne...but not necessarily EVERYONE or allergic reactions...I had one client try a sample of MK and broke out in a RASH (Not the "Acne-type" break-out which is different) in that area...but she also told me she was in the process of ruling out make-up products b/c she broke out from many others including MAC.

I suggested a hypo-allergic products for her....that mean that to use the term you must prove to the FDA who also regulates cosmetics that the product either produces fewer or no allergic reactions on human subjects....So look for those products...I would not focus so much on "Brand Names" because the allergy trumps that indulgence:)

I am acne-prone but not allergy prone so the MK works for me b/c it reduces breakouts...

FInally....A couple of tips on Make-up

1. Clean face before and after make-up application.
2. It can take a few tries for people before your skin gets used to it...
3. Make sure the sample you try is a fresh, brand new sample and not an old one, which will break ANYBODY Out!....MK consultants are always throwing out old samples and investing in new samples so watch the make-up people before they dip that want or sponge in that old container!

I had a Mary Kay trial last week and I liked it and even bought some of the products.
But I am not a makeup person I did MAC for my high school prom so I will try a few more trials.

thanks housewife, I didn't know airbursh can sweat off. I will take a deeper look at airbursh since my wedding is in August.

Great advice Bumble.

When I got married, I used tradition make up (Mac) and it worked out fine. I don't wear makeup everyday (I'm a lip gloss girl). I did however, do a trial run first.

Everyone gave some excellent suggestions but my face is itching just thinking about makeup so I am going to stick with the false lashes, eyeshadow and lipstick and call it a day:)

Re: Makeup Choice

I've used MAC make-up before. Some say that it's more often used for the stage and can be a little heavy. For our wedding, I went to the mall and had the lady at the Prescriptives counter do one half of my face, then the lady at the Bobbi Brown counter did the other half. I purchased the make-up from the line I liked the best which ended up being the Prescriptives line.

Well I choose MAC traditional makeup for my wedding day. The artist gave me a discounted rate of $500 for 8 girls and she is doing my little girls free.

I used Mary Kay products. My supervisor at work gifted me make-up services as her wedding gift. She and her Mary Kay salesperson did my entire wedding party make-up as her gift.

I know nothing about makeup or makeup trends, but airbrushing sounds like a light alternative. I might look into that because I've wore some gross feeling foundations in my life.

I never wear eye makeup, so I'm going to hit up a makeup counter to see how I can pull off a spring daytime look with green eyeshadow. These are my inspirations:

Re: Makeup Choice

I love the eye make-up in those 2 photos, Butterbean. The second with Jada, I would probably use in the evening, though.

I saw this airbrushing product on an infomercial a few months before our wedding. But I didn't really have a chance to look into it further. Just going to a make-up counter in the mall worked for me. I really do like the Prescriptives line I bought. You use a brush with their foundation and it goes on very nicely. The finishing touch is this powder called Magic. You know that as Black women it's hard to find foundation that matches. She did a good match for me in the store.

You are sensitive to make up. But Mac is a lot of synthetic products. I would go to Bare Minerals or some SIMILAR organic make up store and have them try that on you. Totally flawless finish and it won't come off on your clothes. Our brown make up and white weddings just don't mix! :) BARE ECENTUALS IS GORGEOUS TOO AND WORKS WITH A LOT OF SHADES OF SKIN.

Re: Makeup Choice

I was wearing Bare Escentuals on a regular basis before I purchased the Prescriptives make-up for the wedding. The reason I didn't wear Bare Escentuals for the wedding is because of it's mineral composition. Mineral make-up by nature has shiny particals and sometimes that can reflect when your picture is taken. Also, it is not long-lasting, especially if the weather is warm...and I wanted to be able to put on my make-up, have it last for several hours, and not worry about having to touch it up too much. I think I'll go back to it in the winter time because I think it holds up better at that time of year.

But maybe not...it has a beautiful finish but it seemed like it emphasized any fine lines I have under my eyes by just skipping over the lines. I don't get that same effect with liquid make-up.

One more thing about Bare Escentuals...it seems your skin has to get adjusted to it. When I first started to use it, my skin felt itchy. I saw similar comments about it from others that used it on a discussion board I visited.

I appreciate this post. My biggest fear is to show up shiny in my wedding photos. I never knew this about mineral makeup.

Re: Makeup Choice

Yep. The make-up in the first photo is definitley better for the daytime. I also like it better. The make-up there just enhances her natural beauty and she looks like a beautiful lady or a blushing bride. In the second photo, Jada looks more made-up. It looks more high fashion and more for the evening. That heavier application can also make you look older.

I choose airbrush because the result is very satisfying. The makeup really covers my finelines and it is very smooth and refine in my skin.

Prescriptives VS Bare Escentuals

I prefer Prescriptives hands down for me personally. They have a product called Magic that makes your whole face look bright and flawless in photos. U put it on uner or over your regular base foundation. I haven't done airbrushing. I know I would screw it up if I did it at home myself (no matter how easy they say it is), but I am willing to have a professional apply it.
