Flowers

After listening to all you ladies discuss the prices of flowers. I still decided to go ahead and use real live flowers, but when I went home (New York) this past weekend to meet with a few florist, my maid of honor had to catch me when they told me the prices I almost passed out. I went to a flower warehouse first (I thought it would be inexpensive). He had my attention with the prices until he told me 40.00 dollars for each buttonaire. I ended up walking out with a headache not to mention the fact that he never seen a blue rose and didn't understand what I was talking about. Next florist a nice little florist in the heart of the south bronx told me ten floral arrangements for the church would run me about 1,000.00 not including anything else I needed. The last florist we went to had the most reasonable prices. He would charge me 120.00 for my bouquet and 80.00 for bridemaids 12.00 for buttonaires and 15.00 for corsages I also have to provide my own Centerpieces for my reception 80.00 each per table/20 tables. SO my question is anyone getting married in New York who has found some inexpensive flowers please help me, my heart can't take this. ALso if any of you ladies did something else besides flowers at your reception halls can you send some ideas my way. Thanks and by the way my colors are aqua, teal, and silver.

Re: Flowers

Thanks, but did you do your silk arrangements yourself. I am not very crafty. My cousin recently got married in February and her arrangements were silk (I think) and my aunt did them but they looked kind of tacky. I am gonna go to Micheal's tomorrow to buy some silk flowers and try to do it myself.

Re: Flowers

There was a website I visited a while back called growersbox.com, they sell wholesale real flowers, but you would have to put them together yourself. But they were kinda reasonable.

I used fake flowers myself from AC Moore and efavormart.com...
One stem of flowers from efavormart, made one centerpiece for me. I used colored vases from the local dollar store, some blue, some clear with some flower petals and clear marbles and it came out pretty. my guests fought over who would take them home. I will try to post a picture.

Re: Flowers

The growersbox.com is great. Also try bigrose.com, they provide bridal kits ranging from $399-$799. The kit includes everything you need to make for the bridal bouquet, MB bouquets, centerpcs, etc. Also, if you want to view a "how to" for bouquets and arrangements, go to www.Youtube.com and type in "How to make wedding bouquets" or "How to make floral centerpieces" You will find many videos.
Hope this helps.

Re: Flowers

Thanks Ladies
I decided to give the fake flowers a try. I went to A C Moore to buy the materials. Unfortunately my grandfather had congestive heart failure so I was back and forth to the hospital earlier so I haven't done to much with them but I will let ya'll know how the flowers come out some time next week.

Re: Flowers

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. Hope he's doing okay.

I used silk flowers also for my centerpieces. I used the ones that had a velvet like touch. For my bridesmaid though, I found artifical bouquets that I liked and had a florist mix fresh roses and greenery to the silks. You would never know the entire bouquet wasn't fresh. Here are a few pics. My bouquet is the only bouquet made of entirely fresh flowers.

Tall centerpiece #1

Tall centerpiece #2

Low centerpiece

Maid of honors (only the red and orange roses are real, fresh greenery added also)

Attendants bouquets (again on the red and orange you see is fresh)

Even my stepdaughter's kissing ball is mixed. Again, only some of the greenery and the red and orange roses in my daughter's bouquets is real

Just wanted to show you another option of what can be done to save money on flowers. I think the florist only added 6 live roses to each bouquet and extra greenery.

Re: Flowers

Hi, Awesome member

I live in Brooklyn, NY and the florist will break your bank.
I am going with silk flowers because it is cheaper and I am
doing it myself.

You can get all your materials from Michaels craft store it is located in queens at metroplaitan ave and woodhave Blvd.

There you can get all the flowers, vases and candles you need.
The associate their can show you how to do it yourself or they can do it for you.

It is not very hard to do or you can learn it from you tube they have alot of how to videos on floral arrangement and wedding floral arrangement.

Here is on I was working on:

Re: Flowers

Ginoue, I wanted to thank you for referring me to the flower shop in brooklyn. I took a trip there about two weeks ago and got everything at great prices. The lady there was very nice and patient. So I decided to let them take care of all my flower arrangements. Thanks again.

Thanks Ginoue. I would have loved to had fresh flowers but for the number of tables I had and for the types of flowers and fullness of arrangements I like, there is no way I could afford the look I wanted using all fresh flowers. Especially since DH got laid off from his job for a few months during our planning. Just one of the sacrifices we had to make.

Re: Flowers

It definitely will pay of to consider Silk Flowers and DIY!

Had I known I would have done all the arrangements myself ahead of time-which is nice with silks because they don't die and there is no time crunch as there is with fresh-which is what you are paying for....Fresh flowers are picked 1-2 days before the florist gets them, which is ($$) to have them shipped which is ALWAYS overnight....then because the florist person almost always has to arrange the flowers the night before or the morning of and house them in a cold storage (which you also pay a little for), and after you pay them their per hour fee, your costs increase a lot.

Now if you insist on fresh, you can do what one budget-savvy friend of mine did, and buy all of them from Sams Club-che cleaned them out the night before-and had friends-including myself- arrange the bouquets and boutainnaires.

But to me, even if you invest in really nice silks you can get a nice product, and.....You can KEEP your bouquet as a souvenir after the wedding-which I am soooo happy about:)

Re: Flowers

I agree with Bumble; all of my bouquets/boutineers/corsages were silk (even the flower girl petals :)and it made a great keepsake for myself and girls; even my mom's wrist corsage was silk so she has something as a keepsake from the wedding also; dh and I each took a centerpiece from the table and took it to our loved ones graves-the rest we donated to the church for future functions, because they can also just pull the flowers out and replace with other colors!
