Kaholgah, as a professional Wedding Coordinator/Planner, let me be the first to tell you that you can have an extremely elegant wedding, no matter the budget. Give me your e-mail address sister and I'll send you a Wedding Budgeter. It will help you gestimate how much you're thinking about spending on some objects for the wedding and the other side deals with the actual prices for the items. My suggestions to you, my nubian sister, is to look at the list in the budgeter and see what you can make yourself or what your family and his family and your wedding party could help you make. Always compare the price of buying vs. making something. If it's cheaper to make it and it will come out the same way, then by all means, make it. You're a very crafty young lady. YOu could do this.
On an average, a US wedding could cost you anywhere from $6,000 to Millions, if you have it. Know that no matter the amount you decide to set aside for your American Wedding, you will get it done right because we will help you save. That's what's so great about this sisterhood. Now, send me your e-mail address, tell me about how much you're thinking on spending for your American wedding and I can create a budget for you.
My wedding budget has been set at $10,000 and I hope that I keep within it. I know that I will because I'm doing a lot of projects myself that I would otherwise have to pay someone else to do. My sisters here at vibride helped me to tap into my creative side and that has saved me a bundle so far. Because of my sisters, I went from having a $15,000 budget wedding to a $10,000 budget.
We're here for you sister and we will all help you!!!
Kaholgah, As Ginoue stated, you can have an elegant wedding no matter what the budget. Your reception costs will be your largest expense by far. Normally this expense takes up about half your overrall budget. As far as your other expenses, you need to have a talk with your FH and figure out which elements of the wedding is most important to you as a couple. One you prioritize, you know how much of your budget to devote to what and where you are able to cut corners. Instead of worrying yourself on what an average wedding costs, figure out how much money you can realistically spend for your entire event. Once you know that, then as I stated earlier set some priorites. Once you set the priorities then research different vendors that are within your budget. Don't be afraid to negotiate discounts with vendors and always make vendors aware you are shopping around so that they offer you their best deal in order to get your business.
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
I would look at how much ou can afford to save including any existing savings over time and see what you and your FH can put together as an estimate. You may want to start conservatively with a lower budget, and come down from there. We started out with 5000.00 (partly from not knowing how muh stuff costs), and ended up spending 10K on everything-including the rings and honeymoon....but our rings were 3K so our wedding was 7K, so we saved a lot....We could have spent more-looking back-and splurged a little, but I'm glad it turned out the way it did.
But definitely sit down with a planner...and remember to include all costs, including travel, rings, and miscellaneous to your plans. You can go to bridal websites and they have a budget calculator that can be helpful....
