That sounds like fun! You can do a black and white theme which will be so elegant, especially during winter. Add Platinum as a great accent. You could keep things art deco with silloutte shapes on the walls and maybe even Mardi gras beads as part of the favors during the reception. You can find jazz related materials here.

Love the suggestions Rosey and welcome Lexy!
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Thanks ladies for the welcome and information. I checked all of the sights listed in one of the reply's and I still can't seem to find jazz related decorations on line. I don't care for the mardi gras decorations because of the purple and green. I do like the white, black and platnium accents. Wondering if there are any other suggestions for accents. What about Red since it is Christmas time? Any suggestions for centerpieces?
I was thinking about having someone take pictures in a designated area with a nice backdrop and give them to each guest as a favor? Any other ideas for nice favors that people will use and not just throw away.
What about food choices (we will be serving family style instead of buffet)
Thanks a million for all the help.
How about decorating the space like a caberet? Hire a jazz band. Keep the room lit only with candles on the tables and a spot on the singer. You can add red, but maybe only in the wedding party and keep the room like a jazz club. You can then have menus printed on score paper. Musical note favors.

Hi Ladies, I'm back with more questions. You all have been so helpful, my husband and I are scaling back some on expense. We have two children 8 and soon to be 4. Before children and marriage we always traveled and truly did the date thing. Now, it has been awhile since we have had time alone.
So,we still want the romantic vowel renewal but want to put some monies toward a mini vacation immediately following (like a second honeymoon).
So we are going to do an appetizer reception (probably not the best title for it). Any ideas of what to serve? We still want the band but not the expense "Please suggestions to make this happen"?
I love the idea of decorating like a jazz club..
The ceremony is at 2:00 p.m. and reception following probably form 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
We we hold the actual vowel ceremony at a Botanical Garden here in Florida, which is only costing us $42. Still looking for a recepiton site which will be inexspensive
Thanks Ladies
Since it's in the afternoon you can go with light items. I did a ladies luncheon recently and did a parade of salads, chicken salad, pasta salad, seafood salad, and fruit and cheese trays. To pull the jazz theme together you could try the on-line party supply stores for favors like musical instruments, or do a small scroll with your favorite quotes on sheet music. You might even find charms/trinkets to tie the scrolls with. You can include as much wrought iron as possible for the French quarter touch --especially if you do an arch. Hope this helps.Z.
Welcome Alexis3 and ZCommons. Rosie you have awesome ideas. You are definitely in the right place.

A c o c k tail reception is PERFECT for those on a budget. Consider a university jazz ensemble. They come dirt cheap and the quality of music will be PERFECT. They are Studying music after all. Find out if they will do it in exchange for publicity of some sort too. If you don't have a university close by check out high school bands that play for money on the weekends. There are more of them than you think. Check their references and audition or go to see them perform before booking them.

Welcome to the site, Alexis. My sister just had her wedding in Nov and her theme was jazz! Here are just a few ideas.
1) Have a musical instrument (sax or piano) on your invitation, program, etc. She had hers made and it looked beautiful.
2) Name each table after a different type of jazz (ex: Acid jazz, bebop, fusion, etc).
3) Play a fun game for the centerpieces or something else. Each table get a different question pertaining to the type of jazz that's their table name).
There are more ideas that I just can't think of at this time, but I will add later. :-)
Great ideas Askalot!

Hello Ladies, its been awhile since my intial post but I am back. We are just 40 days away from our reaffirmation ceremony and I need your help again. I am trying to figure out the ceremony structure for our reaffirmation ceremony and what things would be nice to include. I am also looking for some suggestions on where to find someone that does Praise dancing for a dance that we would like to include in our ceremony.
Thanks Ladies
Alexis 3
Hi Alexis3!
You can check local dance troupes that specialize in ethnic or African Dance. These groups often do Praise Dancing, so you can start there.
Also, many churches (Black and white-now) have children or youth ministries that do praise dancing. But they are very particular about where they perform, especially where children are involved, so be prepared to give them details about the event. However, I don't forsee this being a problem.

My daughter does praise dancing. She attends a dancing school in Plainfield. I was thinking about asking the director if they could perform at my wedding.

THat would be great house. And I'm sure they will offer you some type of discount.
Hi Ladies, I know I have not been around in awhile but I have been trying to keep up on the board post. I just wanted to say thanks for all the advice and information on planning our vow renewal. The big day is this Saturday, and all is coming together.
We ended up doing most of the work ourselves, programs, invitations, we are doing the food as well (full meal). We found a reception site here in Tampa for less than $300 for 8 hours which includes the set up and clean up. Tampa has alot of brand new recreation centers, that have the round tables, long tables you name it. We also found a great praise dancer through a local church group, thanks for the information of where to look. She is only charging what we would like to pay. We stuck with the colors of black, white and platinum and red accents.
We also hired another church friend who owns a cleaning business to be a server (wearing black and white), and handle all the clean up at the end.
My husband copied all the music for the ceremony, and reception so we avoided the cost of the DJ. We bought a nice Karaoke (sp) machine with a microphone, so our hostess will use that to make the bridal party announcements, food announcements etc.
We do not have alot of kids attending the reception but there are at least 12 -13 of them so we are doing a kids craft corner, so they are not bored and the parents can relax and have some adult conversation time. We hired a friends 15 year old to run that corner, she is great with kids and loves crafts.
We have a very good orchestra at church and I asked one of my friends who plays in the orchestra to play a violin piece at the reception and she has graciously agreed (at no cost).
Thanks again ladies for all of your support and advice and I hope the above lay out gives others who would like to renew their vows some ideas and some assurance to know that you can do it very cost effectively.
Signing out Alexis 3
Congratulations Alexis! I am glad to hear that your Vow Renewal Ceremony and Reception is right upon us and that you have managed to do such a wonderful job planning.
