I know many of you are doing your receptions in a hotel and usually a room is complimentary for the new bride and groom.
Is anyone NOT using a hotel for the reception (Like me-using a restaraunt) and will have to book a hotel for the first night? Does anyone have DIFFERENT PLANS?

Sorry, I can't help you with this one.... Everything will be at the resort.
Bumble I had my reception in a restaurant just like you. We rented a room for the first night, because we didn't leave for the honey moon until that Monday.

We are checking out on Sunday (late) and leaving for Destin that afternoon, since its only 2 hours away. We have finally booked all the hotels we need, plus booked our car for the trip as well as the car for the ceremony.

Hi ladies, I might be having my reception at a hotel. However if we decide to go with that location We are not going to stay there. We are going to a hotel near the airport because we are flying out the next mornong. Plus I want to drive off and just chill with my hubby. I love the inside of the hotel and the price but the outside looks old so I'm still kind of looking for another location.
We didn't have our reception at a hotel, so we needed a room. Fortunately, one of our wedding gifts was a 3 day/2 night stay at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper. The hotel is literally ON the beach. Our room was breath-taking. Two of the walls were all window, so we had a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean. It was gorgeous! We left the shades open, and woke up to a beautiful sunrise.
I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

I'm sad because everyone is going to get married and then no one is going to post anymore because they are married, and I will be all alone posting messages all by myself. Well we do have some wives here like Rhony and Cinamin (sorry to those I forgot). There aren't even any 2008 brides here, are there? (I say in a whiny voice and a pouty face.)
Aww, I'll still be here too. :-)
I'm getting married at a banquet hall. I reserved a block of rooms at the hotel for me and my guests for after the reception.
Doing the C&R at an old estate, no rooms available for overnight.
the plan is to drive to a hotel for the night and the next (two nights at the hotel) then go to the airport in the early AM. that way we'll be rested up and able to fully enjoy the honeymoon. If you have a later wedding you may not get finished with the entire reception 'til late. Think about having to wake up for an early flight the very next day. Or think about having a late flight and getting to your honeymoon destination very late in the day.
**Book a hotel, or add a nights hotel stay (state which hotel)to your gift registry.

I'm starting to feel it now but not in full force (Thank God!). I am kind of pissed (well not really-cause I am spoiled) because I am trying to figure out whats going on with my shower. My friends are really dangling it in my face and I am trying to be like the CIA on the details but my bridal party is keeping quiet, so I'm a little pissed cause the control freak is not in control at all...uh uh NOT AT ALL! (Me nodding with a pouty face)....
-AND my FH and his GM's are heading to ATL next weekend to hang out with his cousin (#92 Falcons) and all their friends for a big bash they are throwing! It happens to be his cousin and his brother's B-day at that time so I will take FH out this weekend to get him some gear cause he will be rolling with the millionaires......
Other than that i'm cool for now. We actually have our first counseling session with my Pastor early Sunday morning so I can answer that question in an interesting manner next week.

I'll be here DW. We can whine and pout together.
My Wedding is at a church and my reception will immediately follow at a hall. We reserved our honeymoon suite at a hotel for that Saturday night, since the reception won't end until early Sunday. Also, my family is having a brunch the next day, so my FH and I can thank our guests and say our farewells. My FH and I will live away from home until we graduate from college.

Our wedding and reception was in a garden & hall.Afterwards we spent the night at a hotel (lovely Barbados). We honeymooned a week later in St.Lucia.It was great.

Girl, I feel you. My BP is meeting up after their gown fitting and I am not invited. You don't know how bad I want to bug someone's pocketbook. lmao
Bumble and Askalot, you guys are too much, but I understand how you feel -- LOL! I'm sure your showers will turn out just fine and if the anticipation gets to you, just bug someone's pocketbook -- LOL!

Thanks Ladies for comforting me.... (anyway)
Bumble~ Ms. CIA, LOL, they are probably going to hook you up while your FH is gone. Don't snoop to hard and spoil the surprise. ;)
Askalot~ You are funny, if you find out how to bug it with out them finding out let me know, I might need to get one.
Musik~ I didn't realize you had almost as long as me. Isn't it wonderful to get great advice from the Vi-pros.
I'll be sure to let you know.
In a way, I want to be surprised. The last time I was surprised with something was over 20 years ago. Then again, I want to make sure I look my best at the shower/bachelorette party. Somebody gotta give a sista a hint.

It's the best, girl, It's the best
My reception is at a banquet hall as well and although I was planning to go home after the reception, my mother and bridesmaids are dead set against it. They told me I had to go to the hotel after. I think I am going to get a room, check in early get dressed in the room and leave from the hotel to go to the ceremony site, returning after the reception.

Hey girls, I'll still check in on you guys from time to time to see how you're doing.
Plat, Musik, and DW, I know your weddings are far away buy you are at great advantge. Imagine how much money you can save in the next year or so! Even though it was our decision to have our wedding sooner than later, we had to pay EVERYTHING ourselves, and all the money we save, we have been spending within weeks for the wedding. Plus I work like 2 jobs so I am busting my butt..... But you all can sit back and watch the $$$ pile up!
So I'll be asking you all how are you enjoying watching that paper stack!

Yes it does add up. I didnt want to do a budget because I didnt want to come to grips with a total amount fearing the outcome. When you look at thing individually it really doesnt seem like alot of money, but when you tally everything up you are overwhelmed.

And girls prepare yourselves and your pockets for the week of the wedding when you have to start or finish pay the vendors.Money just flows out of your hand.I am not scaring you or anything but just expect it.
On another note:Remember I had asked my guest for a monetary donation instead of gifts(we live abroad).Well girls it was WELL received. We were so surprised and happy. The smack-a-roos!!!! After the wedding and honeymoon we went to everyone who gave a donation and thanked them.We gave them a sizable piece of wedding cake (tradition, usually given to those who give a gift) and our CD.They were pleased. They would have had a piece in the cake box at the wedding but this just showed them our appreciation.
That's excellent Nikki. Did you put the money request on your invitations? Or was it just by word of mouth?

So far i've been saving up to visit FH and his family in Zim but once I get back in April, every nickel that isn't already promised to a bill collector goes straight into The Wedding Fund. Ya heard!
