I went to pick up my dress this past weekend, and it fit perfectly. I had a small amount of room in the bust area but nothing that a little bit a padding can't fix.
When I went to pay for my dress the associate told me that I had to pay alteration fees!!!
I politely (using very lightly) asked for what, at first her face went blank, then she asked me to wait a minute. When she returned she stated that the 250 dollar alteration fee is applied because bridal gown try on are on an appointment basis only, and the seamtress is scheduled to attend the fitting.
I looked her in the eye smiled and turned on the chika.
"Not only did I take the dress out of the bag myself, but I put it on myself along with my bra and shoes, zipped it myslef, carried my train, and she came out of the room looked at the dress and said 'It fits perfect you made my job easy', and left. I then took it off hung it back in the bag, and you want to charge me 250 dollars for her looking at it for 2 minutes. You can either give me my dress or I can come back with a lawyer."
She said she couldn't release the dress without the owners permission, without full payment so I have to go back on saturday.
My question is do I need to pay the alteration fees even if they did nothing to the dress and why if I do?
Please Vibride staff and sister help me with this one!!!

Introducng the new Mrs. Durrant!!!
Wow! I don't think you should have to pay for alteration fees if your dress isn't ALTERED. When they told you about the fee, I bet they didn't say, even if your dress doesn't have to be altered, you still have to pay $250. And being that they didn't say that, you shouldn't have to pay. When you PICK UP your dress on Saturday, let the owner know the definition:
1. an event that occurs when something passes from one state or phase to another; "the change was intended to increase sales"; "this storm is certainly a change for the worse"; "the neighborhood had undergone few modifications since his last visit years ago" [syn: change]
2. the act of making something different (as e.g. the size of a garment)
3. the act of revising or altering (involving reconsideration and modification); "it would require a drastic revision of his opinion" [syn: revision]
My alterations is going to cost $200. This fee is for any alterations, my bustle and something else. If I lost more than 25 pounds, the fee might go up if they have to take the dress in 2 sizes or more - more work, which makes since to me.
Wow, I agree with Askalot, you shouldn't have to pay for alterations if your dress wasn't altered. Did you sign a contract, that may have had "small print"?

No I read the contract before I even gave her the deposit.
It say alteration fees need to be paid in cash. Not that they are mandatory.

MzT, You don't have to pay them anything other than the balance on the order.
First-if alterations are required you would have to sign/approve them.
Second-I any alterations were done without your permission they have to eat the loss.
Third-them folks are NUTZ!! $250 for a run through-pah leeze!!!
Living my life like it's GOLDEN!!
DO NOT...REPEAT DO NOT..pay $250 for someone just taking a look at your dress. If it was not stated in the contract and no one told you this before hand you are NOT obligated to pay it.......THEY ARE CRAZY!
No don't pay this fee. If they didn't ALTER the dress, then you don't pay. If you have to get a police officer to "seize your dress" back then I am all for it...Then make sure you email the BBB (Better Business Bureau).
