already stressed

First let me say hello ladies. I am newly engaged (1 week tomorrow) and I am already stressed with wedding details. I am sure this is too early to be stressed because the wedding is not for another year. I wanted a destination wedding in the Bahamas via a cruise and everything was good to go then my mother tells me we need to talk about that because it may be too expensive for many peopole in the family. And yes I want to be considerate but honestly they have an entire year to plan and no matter where I get married it is not going to be in my hometown or even in my homestate. So now I am looking into a Florida wedding and then stil taking the cruise as a honeymoon but I went to school in Florida for 41/2 years and the beauty of their beaches does not awe me and the location does not seem as exotic or beautiful as the clear blue waters of the Bahamas. Am I being unreasonable.

Stick to your cruise. There are special rates for brides and the money your mama will save on decorations extra flowers etcetera is phenomonal! It is one of the most cost effective ways to have a wedding. Just sell it as your family going on vacation together. Those who can't make it can send a gift and their best wishes. You can also have the ceremony once you are in Port in FL if you are feeling guilty and have the rehearsal dinner, bachelorette party, etc on the cruise prior to the wedding. There are 3 Day Carnival Bahamas cruises for less than $80 a day. Anyone can save for that with a year to go. just sign up and get free brochures and even someone to help you plan your wedding at no extra charge! Welcome to the boards & GOOD LUCK!

I say stay with the bahamas via a cruise your family has enough time to get the money for the tickets for the wedding/trip. i hope it works out for you.

Marriage is one of the most greatest things to do in your life other than having a family and a successful career. God Bless you, and best of luck planning your wedding, and may it be a great day.

Re: already stressed

That's a great idea! If you are planning to have it on the cruiseship, you can send out info packets with a save-the-date card. You can include all the pricing info for the cruise, and the travel agency you're using to book the trip.

Re: already stressed

Thank you ladies. The bahamas cruise is back on. I talked to my mother and she sees things my way. So I am really excited and can start planning. I am looking for a hotel to host the reception but the problem I have been running into is that my budget isn't very large and alot of the packages available are a little steep for minimal services. But I will look into the Atlantis and I also heard that the Radisson Cable Resort is a good spot as well.

OOOHHH I love atlantis! can you imagine telling your cows in the tunnel aquarium with the fish all around you? It is so beautiful there! Great idea Phenomonique! Save the date cards are a perfect resource in this instance and when you set up a cruise wedding with Carnival they set up a website and give you flyers, brochures and whatever you need to get your guests involved! Have your dream wedding girl! The vibrides have spoken! Have your mama stop by so that we can convince her! lol

If you can not afford Atlantis - try another hotel over the bridge like Club Meb or the Cloisters, or maybe something a little closer than Radisson like The British Colonial Hilton. There are some really romantic places here - Because you are coming on a crusie ship I would stay closer to port - The Radisson is quit a ways away...you can check out some ideas from here. Click Text Here (TRYING TO POST A LINK HERE - HOPE IT WORKS).....You can also ask them about just the reception - and if that is also too costly then they can maybe offer you an horsdeauv (sp?) reception...hopes this helps.

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

Re: already stressed

Thank you Charlotte. I was concerned about being close to the port. I was excited to see that you linked me to weddingsinthebahamas.com. I cam across this website last week and was interested in pricing her services. My mother and I have an appointment to call her tommorrow to get more info. Hopefully after securing a wedding planner in the bahamas, I will be able to relax. Thanks again

Re: already stressed

Do not just stop at one planner ok - please try some of the other hotels and compare prices..I saw a wedding at the Hilton before of a couple coming in just like you it was so beautiful. Try these:

Club Land'or - contact Yvette - 242-363-2400

Atlantis - contact Kim Glover - 242-363-3000 ext. 55683 or Atlantic.com

Cafe Matisse (walking distance from the port) contact - Allen Williams or Greg Curry - 242-356-7012 *can only accomodate 30 people - www.cafe-matisse.com

Chez Willie - 242-322-5364 (also very close to port)www.chezwillierestaurant.com

Buena Vista - 242-322-2811 - contact Mr. Perez or Mr. Bocus

British Colonial Hilton - contact Indira Collie - 242-302-9024

I also was informed from Indira (Hilton) that you must meet certain criteria if you are getting married in the Bahamas

1. You must be on Bahamian soil for 24 hours )if you are getting married here) before you can apply for a license.

2. You must obtain a letter from the Captain regarding the same.

3. Minister will have to certify your license

I really hope all this information helps you - also please note that all these restaurants indicated are top of the line here in Nassau and are in close proximity to the ship but I strongly recommend the Hilton because I know there work and the lady was so very helpful to me in getting this information to pass on to you.

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

Re: already stressed

Hi burrisbride. Congratulations on your engagement. I have been engaged for a couple of months, and the most stressful time for me so far was right after I got engaged. I think finding a location for your wedding and reception is the hardest, most time consuming part of planning. It seems to be all down hill from there until you get to small details. Either way...stress or no stress...you only have a year to plan until you're married. Enjoy every day, every tear, every gripe, every huff, every puff, every fear and every smile of it. It goes by fast!

A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave.

Welcome, shaebap! Is this your first cruise? If so you are gonna LOVE it. I think it is the single most romantic way to spend your honeymoon. You NEVER have to leave your room if you don't wantto and you can make love in 5 or more countries before you get back to your new life at home. I really liked LA by the way I have benn 3 times.

You are soooooo right Rosie. Shaebap you are going to love cruising and Royal Carribbean is a nice cruise line. FH and I haven't really decided where we are going on our honeymoon. I just recently got him to give up the idea of eloping. But I'm going to check out the travel deals here on the site before making any decisions.

Charley I would meet you at the pier! FH and I are looking for a cruise to go to the Bahamas and HAWII. We are also in La and its hard to find a cruise that leaves from here. All the ones I've seen are going to Mexico and Catalina, which is also a consideration, but my top 2 choices are the Bahamas and then Hawii islands.I 'm even considering saving one of those for FH birthday next year since its in mid July it would be a great time for a cruise.

OOOOO Charley I dont like huricanes.... as a kid I lived in Texas and had to deal with tornadoes, now I live in California where there are earthquakes...I just dont think I can handle another natural disaster. After Hurrrican Katrina I'm scared to even think about hurricanes. I may have to meet you some other month...But make sure you still wear your bell tho!

Allie I know what you mean about those natural disasters...girl the Bahamas is a nation full of praying people and God has found favor in all that pray....he has blessed us to the point that the recent hurricanes went around us but it did not hit land...thank God for Jesus. Please do not be affraid to come here...I just don't want you to make huge plans during hurricane season and get disappointed. Know that I shall still be at the pier when you arrive. Charly :-)
