Hi all,
I am new to the boards and I am having a little problem trying to figure out exactly when are the appropiate times for music to be played during the ceremony. I am trying to figure out exactly how many different songs I need for the ceremony so I can determine what will be live songs and then recorded music..... if anyone could give me a breakdown of it I would appreciate it. Also for anyone searching for songs, "Forever" by Dave Hollister is a really nice song.....
Thanks

Hey My Sister!
Welcome to the site...The number of songs you need depends on what you want. How long is your ceremony going to be? Are you having a DJ play your music? If so, s/he should be able to give you a general idea of how many songs should be played at the right time. I'm guessing you'll need to have some mood music playing as guests arrive. Of course you'll need music played as you & the bridal party enter. You can opt to have very soft music played during the vows.

Cinny you had me up to the vow suggestion and then I disagreed with you there...I think during the vow it calls for complete silence so that everyone can hear and there is no second guessing - now the soft music should be played during dinner and then jumping music to dance all that eaten food off.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
I agree with you Charly. During the Lord's Prayer and the Vows are two times where there should be absolute silence. Delta, welcome to the boards. The number of songs you have totally depends on you. Some people have just the processional and recessional music, others have a whole concert. I would say an average number would be 4-5. The processional song, the bridal march song, the recessional song and 1 or 2 solo's. Don't forget about prelude music (music while your guest are arriving) and postlude music (music while your guests are exiting). Your musician can just play light organ music during these times if you don't have specific songs. Good luck and happy planning!

My bad...I've been to two weddings where they played music (one harp, the other piano), but it was very faint, very soft. It didn't compete with the works spoken. I won't play music during my vows but I didn't want to knock anyone else that wanted music played during their ceremony (I said "opt" to have it played as in optional). As we can see, all weddings are different.
