YOU were decorating on your wedding day. Unacceptable. I told my bride to stay out of it. One day at the Giant I did see a bride and several bridesmaids all dressed up picking up platters of coldcuts and cases of soda. I didnt like that. Where were the groomsmen, cousins, a distant relative? Felt bad for her.

Well, Mycenae, don't feel badly for me. I am blessed beyond measure, and I had a ball! I live to decorate. I even decorated my cake, honey. This princesss bride is not afraid of getting her hands dirty. LOL! If one bride can cook all the food for the reception, I can certainly decorate. I've seen many, many weddings, and yes, some brides do help with the decorating. I was there to give direction more than anything else as there haven't been many weddings in my family, and I just have so much experience as I used to work part-time at a castle where weddings are held. It was wonderful to have both of my younger sisters in my wedding, and they were very helpful and drama-free, even if they don't know much about weddings.
If my event planner best friend had been there, I might have left things in her capable hands. However, she wasn't there, and I'm a VIRGO. If you know anything about virgos, then you know that we are perfectionists. Rather than me becoming a bridezilla because things don't look the way I want it, it made sense for me to be there to oversee the decorating...and it was wonderful sharing that experience with my husband. It made him feel more like an active participant in bringing the vision together.
My 2 ladies of honor wore different dresses. I definitely wanted them to have different but similar looks. They also chose their own different silver shoes.
We had our rehearsal in the morning, so instead of a rehearsal dinner, we had a informal rehearsal brunch at the wedding/reception site for the wedding party followed by an island tour and shopping.
We skipped having an engagement party.
I didn't feel the need to have a shower. They even tried to give me one at work, but I found out about it and said no thank you. I'm so uncomfortable with being fussed over by co-workers. They still gave us a Visa gift card though. That was nice.
We all did our own hair, nails, and make-up.
We didn't run away somewhere for a honeymoon right after. We rented a condo for the week in St. Thomas and island-hopped to St. John. We planned on hopping to Tortola and Jost Van Dyke too, but ended up staying close to St. Thomas and St. John. This was my husband's first real visit to my home of St. Thomas except for one day on our cruise last August and I wanted to show him around....and I'm still basking in the glow of our trip to Maui in June '07.
We're planning a belated "honeymoon" to Italy to celebrate our first anniversary next year.

Looks like you had a beautiful day. Those ladies I say looked stressed. I see brides help out all the time early in the morning.
Some traditions Im changing are:
If I have a bouquet toss I will not call single ladies out by name. If someone doesnt come to the floor than she doesnt want to play
I may have my sister give me away. Or her dad may do it.

I'm right with ya on this!!! My husband and I woke up together too. Went to the venue together AND help set up. He even help me with the food and EVERYTHING else that had ANYTHING to do with the wedding ...at some points he was kinda plucking my nerves wanting to know what's next to do. I loved him being there with me and for US!
1. DH & GM all walked down the isle together (while the Pastor was up front)
2. no ring bearer, but my son was the broom bearer
3. no garter toss (DH did not want to "do it" in front of everybody:)
4. all of my ladies had on different dress styles (although all the same color)
5. After the wedding and reception, DH and I didn't get to drive off into the sunset together because we had to play taxi to non-licensed wedding party participants :)
6. we did not have an "official" engagement party
I know but you didnt intend to feed them folks. LOL. I am just kidding. The wedding I was in had no rehearsal dinner and I didnt say anything. Funds are tight and whenever people decide to make that commitment, I support them.

That's right, girlfriend. It was teamwork all the way! He was my partner right from the start. God, I love my man!
I didn't have bridesmaids or groomsmen (didn't want the drama)
I didn't do a bouquet toss, no garter toss, no money dance, no receiving line, no flower girl, no ring bearer. I think cutting a lot of that stuff out saved us unnecessary headaches and timing issues. I'm super happy on how our day turned out. But different strokes for different folks.
Im not having any kids that werent in the wedding at the reception. Cant afford it.
I am having a small guest list and once I draw the line it is drawn, no roll over list.
I am not having my sisters as bridemaids. One is happy to be a hostess and the other a guest.

7. no receiving line although after the ceremony while waiting for everyone to clear the sanctuary for pics I think EVERYBODY that was there came and gave us a hug or handshake :)
8. Also walked down the isle alone half-way and DH met me and we finished the walk together.
9. and we did jump the broom and had our guests participate in the ceremony by counting down from 3 to 1 for us to jump (that was my Pastor's idea)
