I was just wondering what you gals felt were average prices for the wedding dress. I'm realizing that I can buy from a boutique, brand new full price. Go to and outlet and get a last season dress new for a lesser price. Get a new dress from a not so expensive designer, or get a secound hand gown online.

Well...personally I felt that which ever dress was "the one" was going to be MY dress come hel or high water. That was one of the most important aspects for me, that I feel like the most amazing, beautiful, self confidant woman on the day that I take my vows. Fortunatly I didn't end up having to break the bank doing so because after I picked out my dress, my mother purchased it for me as a gift. (lucky me!) But practically speaking, you have to really take into consideration your TOTAL wedding budget and work from there. Decide how much you are WILLING to spend.
i too did not care about price when i was looking for "that dress" i figured if it was out of budget the guest list would have been cut :) fortunately i have a beautiful dress at a great price and no one has to eat the colonel at the reception.

Examine what qualities in a dress you like and go from there. If you find a dress with all that you want in it, then it shouldn't matter where it came from. Right? I say, weigh your options and how practical you want to be.
I purchased a dress at first that I found really cheap, but it reflected that it was cheap. There's a big difference between a typical dress from David's Bridal and a dress from Badgly Mischka or Vera Wang or Monique lhuillier. Determine how important quality is to you.
Also, recognize that a high fashion gown usually comes with high fashion maintenance. For instance, my friend got her Maggie Sottero dress cleaned for $150 while my dress cost $450 to properly clean. Her alterations were under $100 while mine were...uh...yeah.
And lastly, last season doesn't always mean lesser price with certain expensive designers. My dress design is at LEAST two-three seasons old and I still paid thousands for it.
Dang girl. Thousands? That's a lot.
When I intially went for my dress, I set a budget. I said I don't want to spend over $700. Then, when I went online, saw the dress that I wanted, called my store and she said $800. I said hey, I can deal with that. However it wasn't "the dress". When I SAW and tried on "THE DRESS", I just knew I had to have it. I didn't even ask about the price until the end. I will now spend about $1200 for my dress and alterations, but I DO NOT regret it ONE BIT.
Well said ladies!

I felt like that when I saw the girl on Desperate Housewives and then Star Jones wear Reem Acra. I was like, "I HAVE TO WEAR ONE OF THOSE DRESSES EVEN IF I HAVE TO STAB SOMEONE IN THE EYE FOR IT! But, most Reem Acra dresses I tried on ran from around $3,000 - $15,000. My dress cost more than the reception buffet and facility rental...so...yeah I felt bad for a while, but looking at it again after the alterations are done, I don't feel bad anymore. I'll only wear something like that once. Hopefully.
I totally agree with the other ladies. I originally set a budget for what I wanted to spend on my dress until I tried on "THE ONE", that budget went out the door. You will feel it in your heart and money will not matter......until a couple weeks later! lol I too like Classy spent thousands, but you always have the option of selling it later or playing dress-up with your husband! lol

oh yeah, who is your designer? Spill the beans!
Thanks guys. I know your right, most of the dresses I have found in the Knot mag, that I like, are in the under 3,000$ range. I also noticed that the larger size dress you get, and they add on more money. Man, I have been planing to loose weight for the wedding. I'm giving myself 6 months which is one year before the wedding to loose two dress sizes, I hope that isnt imposible lol.
My designer is Eve of Milady

Oooooh! Those gowns are amazing. They are so pretty, I see a lot of people trying to copy the style.
