Have her do a payment plan for her dress with the shop. One of the things I like to sugesst, is that the maid of honor get the girls together, to agree on a budget, along with you. While the saying of the brides goes... "this is my wedding and i do it however..." Well I feel a need to beg to differ a little. that someone is spending 145.00 for 1 time is a bit especally since you gotta get shoes, and other accessories done. If the majority is ok with this then the final decision is up to the person who has to put out the money. One wedding i've done, a bridesmaid spent 300.00 to accomodate the bride, while her kids and her self went hungry and missed a rent payment. I hope this helps.
I have had the same dilemma. I have tried to be nice and leave it up to the bridesmaids and let them pick since it is their money that is being spent. I know I'm on a budget and don't expect them to have to pay an arm and a leg for a bridesmaid dress. Also I want a dress that they will be able to wear again, especially since bridesmaids dresses are not cheap. They have yet to make a decision as to how much they want to spend so I am going to make the decision for them. I have found a guy who makes dresses through a friend and I've seen his work. The dresses that I saw were $200.00 which included alterations. At first I thought that was kind of high but I keep hearing that is a good price. He offers a payment plan which makes it a little easier. My wedding is in September and the balance is due a month before the wedding. So that is about $30-40 a month depending on how much they put down. I don't think that is bad. So if you can find a shop or a reputable person to get the dresses or make the dresses and work off of a payment plan your bridesmaids may be ok with that and if not like everyone else says IT IS YOUR DAY!!! If they want to be part of your wedding there are essential things that have to be done a purchased.
FYI, the website www.glamourcloset.com might be helpful to many of you. It is a site where you can re-sell your bridesmaid gowns for a reasonable price. You can also consider other online auctions such as ebay and yahoo.
I think that's about average. My Bridesmaids dresses cost $130. I also volunteered to buy my Bridesmaids shoes as a gift to them (and to help them out as well.) The tricky party with price is alterations! Alterations for my wedding gown cost $125.
It's expnesive to be in a wedding but I try to help where I can...
Is $145 too much to pay for bridesmaids dresses? One of my bridesmaids said that is too much. The other 9 says that it isnt. What should I do?
