My husband is in the Army and we never had a formal wedding. We are now happily married (3yrs) with two children (1&4). We are looking to have a vow renewal ceemony in a few years with a Jamaican theme since that is where his family is from. We live in Fort Bragg,NC, and are trying to get ideas for our reception. We planned on the ceremonyto be fairly simply but would love for the reception to be one big Jamaican party. Any ideas on where and the decor/activies type thing. We are willing to have the ceremony in Alabama,South Carolina or North Carolina.

Ihewitt,
Welcome and congradulations on the upcoming nuptials.
Well the first place to start would be with his family.
Other than a black rum cake and ethnic clothing I found in my search that Jamaican weddings are very much like "european weddings".
So ask around and see if there is anything special his parents may wnat to incorporate into the ceremony.
A number of the ladies here are incorporating things into our ceremonies like;
Tasting ceremonies (yoruba tradition)
Broom Jumping
Tying the knot
Kola nuts
And many other african traditions. If all else fails have it in Jamaica at a villa and make it a wedding slash honeymoon. Like my Fh and I are doing. It can be easier on your pocket and lots of fun.
Introducng the new Mrs. Durrant!!!
Welcome, lhewitt!
Welcome Ihewitt.
