Okay ladies. This is not like you to ignore a post. Let me explain what I am talking about. A charge to the congregation is when the minister gives/reads the guests their responsibilities to the couple as far as supporting their marriage, loving them, respecting them...etc. The guests have a verbal response like we will, or we do at the end. I am looking for some suggestions. My pastor will read it, but won't write it. Now can you help me? LOL
Nlbostic, I've never heard of the charge to the congregation.I'm sorry that I wasn't able to help.I understand that your pastor wont write it but have you asked him for suggestions?Perhaps you should consider asking someone else in the church like a deacon or deaconess, church mother, or some of the other church elders...
Hey Nlbostic, I've never heard of this either. Sorry that I couldn't be more help. You are certainly in the right place, perhaps Rosetta will be able to shed some light on this. Good luck in any event.

Thanks Platinum and Rhonda. I had actually asked a friend of mine for some assistance and she wrote it for me. Since you hadn't heard of it before, I will share it with you. It adds a personal touch and allows the guest to feel involved. This is what she came up with:
As a gesture of blessings to the nuptials of BRIDE (name) and GROOM (name), they have requested that a charge be read and accepted by you their family and friends. And so after reading this charge I will ask that you all say together - "OUR BLESSINGS WE GIVE TO YOU"
I, Rev. (name) charge the family and friends of BRIDE and GROOM on this ?th day of month 200? that we will love them individually and collectively. Respect and support their union that today is joined in holy matrimony before God. We will stand by them in good and bad times. We will accept the decisions they choose to make as husband and wife to be the best for them and their children. Most importantly we will pray continually with them as well as for them for God to continue to bless their union as they begin their lives today, together as one.
If you agree and accept the responsiblities of this charge, please commemorate this by saying - "OUR BLESSINGS WE GIVE TO YOU"
Alright now Nlbostic, thank you so much for sharing, I am now actually entertaining incorporating something like this into our ceremony. That is really beautiful. I just love this site, you guys are full of such creativity and knowledge -- such a wonderful blessing!

Bosy...nah you know we do not ignore posts...my excuse is I was off all of last week, I was with my son whilst he battled pneumonia---I was in combat with the enemy for messing with my son by fasting and supplication. So you see honey something had to be going on for this one to slip by us. Anywho....never heard of this but I am very happy you thought of it and posted the suggestion, it is really nice.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Nlbostic, I have heard of this before but never knew what it was actually called. Also, your friend did a great job writing this!!!! What time are you getting married again? This way I can "OUR BLESSING WE GIVE TO YOU" around that time. :-)
I know you don't ignore posts. I was just kidding. Charly, I hope that your son is feeling better. I figured that some of you may not have heard of it. I am glad that I could share it with you. My wedding is June 9th at 5pm. At 5:30, all the women of vibride say in unity "OUR BLESSINGS WE GIVE TO YOU". i'll feel the love :0). Septbride, you are a hop, skip and jump away. You may as well come on to the ceremony girl!
Ya'll know I get jealous when ya'll get together without me...first Niquey's shop opening now Septbride going to Bossie's wedding....not fair, not fair! :-)

I really like the idea of doing this at the ceramony.I think I will be using this idea in my wedding because it will put my nosey bossy family and friends in their place. So later when we have problems they cant say "you shoulda coulda woulda" whatever negative things they have to say.I can tell them they gave their blessing and agreed to suport us in good and bad.
Thanks for the idea nblostic.
I would like for a charge to be given to the guests at my ceremony. Any ideas where I can get some sample wording?
What's up ladies? I need ome suggestions. Does everybody know what I am talking about?

Septbride that is an excellent idea...to extend our blessings to all our sistas from our neck of the woods when we know they are tying the knot.
