I have had the hardest time trying to figure out where I wanted to have my wedding. The reason was because I was so concerned about whether or not my guest would be able to afford it. Now I have come to the conclusion that I am not going to worry about it, because I want what I want. Am I being unfair?

Hi Hallki75, welcome! Where are you getting married? Are yours and your FH family going to be able to attend? Will you have any regrets for not being able to celebrate with some friends or family that won't be in attendance? Not trying to discourage you, just giving food for thought. :)
Living my life like it's GOLDEN!!
We have decided on Jamaica. I am concerned about those who may not be able to make it, however what I have being trying to work out is a payment plan. Our families and guests will have the entire year to pay on the trip. Not only that I am looking for the cheapest prices for them. I pray they will be able to make it. No regrets as long as my mom and grandmother are there.

No you're not being unfair, go with what you want.
I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.
Delight yourself also in the Lord & He shall give you all the desires of your heart.-Psalm 37:4
I agree with everyone go with what you want. While you are considering them being able to afford it and that is honorable..you also have to realize that this is your wedding and it should be the way you want it..somtimes that means hurting a few people but it's all about you and your fiance. Your heart is willing and that is the important thing.

My favorite place is Cozumel. It is so romantic. The Mayans were such an exotic people. and the pyramids! We are going on a vibride cruise there in April. All destination weddings are welcome!

Peace,
I'm new to the site and I'm having my wedding in Jamaica (ocho rios) as well August 2006. It has been so hard trying to arrange from the States. Can't pick the flowers because I don't know what they offer, can't taste test the food nor the cake. Can't check out the photographers because I can't see their work. It is so frustrating sometimes. HELP!!! any suggestions.
Where are you getting married...in a church or at a resort. I know here in the Bahamas [Featured on TLC 'A Wedding story] when couples come to be married here, there is a weddinng coordinator that is employed by the hotel specifically for wedding planning and they do all the leg work communicating with the couple abroad. Look into something like that or if it is a church and you do not have family there, you need to contact a local coordinator. Do not get upset, it will all work out just take it one step at a time.

Thanks...I am getting married at a resort and I will be going down there (Jamaica) next month to talk to the coordinator and try to finalize everything. I didn't realize it would be this hard to get a wedding together...whew!

You check on the web. That is what it is for. Seach on wedding vendors in jamaica. Choose from the ones you like. I would pick a plannner in Jamaica and have them do the work. That'st what they get paid for and they have the experience to make your wedding amazing as well as economical. Besides, if there is a problem there is one person who will fix it and REFUND your mnoney!

I have had the hardest time trying to figure out where I wanted to have my weddding as well. After reading your message and the responses that you receive it help me realize that you can't make everyone happy and it's your day. Go for what you know and plan that wedding in Jamaica and have a ball. Can't please them all
Hi Ladies, I'm new to the board. I'm just at the beginning stages of putting together ideas for my wedding which will take place in Grenada in 2007(parents now reside there, family & friends from the US/UK will attend.) However my Partner and I reside in the UK and need reassureance that the Hotel Coordinator will do us justice in planning our wedding in our absence. Has any of the ladies on this board had the same concern or know of anyone who has married in the Caribbean (Grenada) and been happy with the results. Or am I being over concerned. Also, what do you think of a Shell Themed Wedding with earthy/creamy/coral tones. Any advice, suggestions will be welcomed. OneLove!Bold Text

Traveler welcome to the site and big ups with your first entry being a great help. Vibride is filled with wonderful knowledgable women, and it seems that you will fit right in.

Ok Enough about Jamaica. There are literally HUNDREDS of places where you can go to get married that won't cost a mint! Consider a short 4 day Cruise or a cruise to nowhere. Or the US Virgin Islands. It is exotic and they speak the language, use the same currency and ARE the United States. Direct flights leave from several major cities in the US. Cheap! Rates are lowest during the Summer months.

Thanks Charlotte for your kind words. I had a great experience in Jamaica and just want to share it. I recently came back from Negril Jamaica where I did my wedding with negrilwedding.net,they are awesome. My wedding planner Elizabeth Smith was great, very helpful she set up everything for us and made our wedding very beautiful it was perfect. I will always recommend her to anyone going to Jamaica.
The people in jamaica is so nice and the island is beautiful.cant wait to go back.
Okay, Iam going to rave about Jamaica. My best friend was married in Montego Bay at the Ritz Carlton. Yes, it seams expensive but I think she was able to have a weekend wedding in Jamaica for the same price that I will be paying in the States for a day.
It is your day...I think you should do what will make you happy. Furthermore, ask yourself this question: Will you be upset if some people cannot attend your wedding, Who are the most important people that must be at your wedding. If those people can attend, I suggest have your destination wedding and have a reception with your close friends and family when you come back.
Hey Bree...(pretty name by the way) excellent advice.

I love the idea of having the wedding then a big reception when you return! You won't feel guilty about those who can't afford or take time off to come to the wedding and you still get to celebrate with them back home!
Here are some destination wedding invitations & announcements that are cool:

Can you imagine opening an envelope and seeing those invites inside, Charley? That is what I like about unusual invites. They bring joy in two ways at the very least.

Thomas Alfred and I are getting married at night at the Tlaquepaque chapel (http://www.tlaq.com/)in Sedona Arizona. We are currently living in St. Louis, MO. It was voted one of the most 100 beautiful places to marry. Many people travel there to marry each year!
I rented a 1938 restored Bentley(www.sedonaweddingplanner.com) and we are staying at a cozy Bed & Breakfast, complete with a 5 star breakfast meal of 5 courses and a fireplace in the bedroom.
We wanted something a bit more personal as we are FedExing the wedding gown and Tux ahead of time to avoid any issues at the airport, or lugging the dang clothes through to get dirty or stolen...
Originally, he wanted to elope, which sounded cheap at the time...as time went on and the wedding drama started.... I thought maybe the old boy was right!
Live everyday as your last, Love everyone you see, Laugh all the time...life is funny sometimes!
Girl that is really beautiful. PLEASE TAKE ME! LOL

Be prepared to let go of some of control of the wedding planning. Any time that you are planning wedding by long distance, it is necessary to trust someone at your site to handle many of the details for you. If you surrender to process, you may actually find preparing for your wedding to be fairly relaxing. The good news is most resorts will have on-site coordinators, so you will know that you are in good hands.
