Are there any other destination wedding brides (anyone getting married away from where they live)? I am going to Jamacia to a Beaches Resort has anyone been there? I would just like to chat about what problems, if any, you are having because your wedding is away from home. I also want to know how much fun you are having!

DW,I'm still wrestling with the idea of having a destination wedding. The only thing is that there are many people in our families that can't afford some of the trips that I checked out.So, at this point,I'm still looking.

Platinum~ When are you getting married? The reason why FH and I decided on going away was because it is cheaper and I started to make the guest list and it was VERY long! So we decided it would be nice and different and it would give everyone a vacation for the year. But it really is cheaper. It will be our wedding and honeymoon. You should check out the Beaches Resort and Sandals Resort websites. They are all inclusive so EVERYTHING is included. That is a plus for us. Also, this is what we decided on and we are comfortable that if 2, 20 or 200 guests come we will be happy because it is our day and this is how WE want it!
We have a great article on How to say, I DO in an exotic locale. They can be less expensive, but not for your guests!

We want to get married in Orlando-hardly an exotic locale, but surely a tourist city....Its about 4 hours south of Tallahassee, and we were looking for something away from our homes in FL, but not too far for family to travel....Plus, our wedding ceremony and reception is at a resort, so its very nice and has a true feel of "getting away".
Its still hard because we doing all of our wheeling and dealing via phone and email, and we had to take a lot of time off to travel there already to visit sites, and in the future for taste tests and the like...You also have to get there early in the week so you won't be rushing to do everything on friday to get ready for Saturday (= extra hotel costs) as well as accomodate people (Like my Pastor for example) who will be traveling there to do services for you...You can easily pay a local person to do it (and any service for that matter like the picture person), but since I want MY pastor to do it, we are willing to cover his hotel stay and do the donation/compensation thing....knowing my Pastor, we will have to twisthis arm to let him let us pay.....Plus you have to ship everything there and all your gifts back....my friend had to rent a van and get her friend to drive it back just to carry all the gifts back to town (her wedding was only 3 hours away)!
We definitely like the fact that its AWAY from home, and its centralized, and plus we can stay a day or so later.....Its fun and I think it will be interesting and worthwhile:)
We've been Happily Married 2 Years and Counting:)

Rosetta~ The article was great! Thanks for turning me on to it.
Bumblebee~ I have a suggestion for the gifts. You can have people drop them off maybe at some one's house (ex: an aunt) during the week, before they come to the wedding then when you come home you can pick them up from that person's home or they can bring them to you. You can just send the message to people by word of mouth and have a gift table just in case some people don't know about it before the wedding. Another reason why, I like the idea of a destination wedding because it get's everyone away from what they are used to. It's like they are "forced" to have a nice time cause they can't go home! Like you said, you can stay a day or two later and enjoy the resort or hotel.
My FH and I are going to send out our Save the Dates by the end of the month. We just want people to know ahead of time. I haven't had anyone (yet) to ask us to pay or that assumed we are paying. Everyone has said they are glad we told them in advance so they can save for it.
Well as you all know me and my FH will be getting married in JA in 14 days!!!!
Its so far away yet so close.
Introducng the new Mrs. Durrant!!!
So, how are you feeling?
You people can get an idea of destination wedding and can choose any destiation form the list according to your will for sure.
