I have a questions ladies. Has your eating habits changed since you started planning your wedding? I was loosing weight before I got engage. I was told girl slow down because when you start planning your wedding you will drop pounds left and right. Well guess what? I seem to be eating more. I've been so stressed from this wedding I don't even want to work out half the time. But I know I need to loose some weight to get into my dress. I'm going to have to get on the ball really soon.

Giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirl, I haven't lost nah nudda! I have been saying for the past year, this is it, I have to start now. Well, those were just words. I guess it didn't help when FH told me "baby you're going to look beautiful no matter if you lose weight or not". Why did he say that???????? I have noooooooooo motivation. By the time I get off work, pick up the kids, think wedding from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed, who has time to exercise? lol But, seriously, if I can lose 20 - 25 pounds, I'll be okay. The lady at the bridal store told me if I lose more than 25 pounds, then my alterations could cost more than $200. So, I'll take 25 pounds for less than $200, Alex. lol
I'm in total agreement w/you. I've gained 20-25 lbs. since being engaged. I'm now to the point, where I can't even fit my dress.
I do agree that w/all going on in terms of planning, there leaves little time to do the gym.
What type of diet is everyone thinking of doing?

I'm in the boat to the left of ya'll. Wishing I could gain a couple of pounds. Worrying about school and the wedding, I can't afford to lose another pound. I don't want to be looking like no crack head bride! I've been forcing my self to stop and eat, baking cookies/brownies, having people cook for me.
Don't worry about looking like a crack head. I have a whole lot of pounds I trying to get rid of. Just let me know how I can tranfer them to you and I will do it lol. On a serious note have you tried drinking ensure with through out the day? I heard that will help you gain weight.
While planning the wedding I ended up losing weight, it must've been pretty dramatic cuz when I went back to Africa b4 the wedding, my mother and other relatives gave me that "concerned" look...lol. I was just soo stressed and was barely eating. Since being married, I think I've put the weight on and then some.

I lost weight initially, but right before the wedding I think I gained half of what I lost back. I am just now getting to the point where I am losing weight again. Once I actually had time again to focus on cutting back, exercising again and all that stuff, I was able drop a few pounds.

When I was younger and rail-thin my mother woud make shakes for me they were made out of Wheat Germ (in the grits isle...lol), Whole milk, bananas, and honey. blended up like a smoothie.
It worked and I put on enough weight to not look like someone was blowing crack in my face as I slept...LOL.
But that was back then, now I need to shead a few!
I have to lose weight real soon or I will not be able to get in my dress. I hope I will be able to lose 20 pounds in six weeks. What do you ladies thinks?
I think you can do it. It doesn't sound unrealistic to me. Along with any dieting that you try, walk for about 45 minutes. I hear walking does wonders.
That's trues Askalot. My Mom has been trying to lose weight, but since she is an older person, her doctor suggested walking. Since my wedding she has lost 20lbs by incorporating walking into her routine.

Wow! Rhony, that's great! It hasn't been long at all for her to lose that weight. Go momma, go momma! lol
Thanks ladies for the encouragement. I know if I work out I drop pounds pretty quickly as long as I wear my plastic suite. It's just getting the energy to work out after doing everything else.
I too have a weight problem, I can't weight to eat lately! I wanted to lose and all my girls lost weight. Not the fat blimp of a bride:). At the rate I'm going, they will have to play here comes the BRIDES.lol

i lost 11 pounds was all happy. even weighed myself in public at Publix. ran home and told fh. he told me that is a significant loss and he should have noticed it. therefore i am back to the norm. i am not riding this elliptical morning, noon and nite and the only ones that notice the weight dropping is me, the scale and my seamstress. u ladies have at it. i will waddle down the aisle, thank u
I started a weight gain program on New Year's Day and I have gained 15 pounds. I'm trying to gain another 10 pounds before my wedding day. I've been taking a product called "Amino Fuel for Mass" by Twin Lab and working out atleast three times a week (even if it's only 15 to 20 minutes).

I will be a registered dietician in a few months, so I will just say be careful when doing Atkins. You have to be in ketosis for those 1st couple of weeks, and after doing a study and publishing the research last year, my study group found that Atkins (to no surprise) was not adequate or balanced in those initial stages. I think that any diet that restricts any one group of nutrients (carbs in this case) for any amount of time is not very healthy for the body.
Plus you need energy to go throughout the day and because the brain prefers glucose (from carbs) as fuel, you need enough to be able to think clearly and function throughout the day without feeling faint and weak, which many of our subjects we interviewed sayed they felt in the initial phase.
I would just cut back on fatty foods and high sugary snacks, pick up on fiber and complex carbs, water and balance it with exercise nad adequate lean protein from poultry and fish, and I think you'll be straight!
Just my 2 cents:)

I never tried Wheat Germ shakes, I might check it out. That sounds better than those expensive weight gain shakes from GNC. Those things make me sleepy.
Askalot, that suggestion for walking is a good one. You ladies should try drinking lots of water. If you love sweet drinks, try Crystal Light. It tastes great.

Well I have along time til my wedding 8/30/08 but I need to start now if I'm gonna be the weight I want. I would love to loose 30lbs. I work out 2 times a week and eat everything. my goal. workout 4 times a week. Do the slim fast thing in the mornings and lunch, eat more salad less snacking. Good luck to all!

Thanks Bumble.. I've heard that also. I guess it's not a long term thing as it's harmful to the body in the long run. I just HATE paying Weight Watchers that $40/month to track what I eat & only loose 2-3 lbs/week. Ugh...this wedding thing's gonna be a doosey I see. Thanks for the advice....

UGH-Puhleez!! We are not even going to go there. I was doing okay at one point - but when the holidays came around I sabotoged myself. But, here we are in April and I still haven't got back on board. I have no will power. I pray about it all the time, but I gotta do my part too. I need a magic pill or somethin'. I have to lose at least 40 lbs. by my wedding in August - Need to lose about 70 lbs. overall though.
[quote="SeptBride"] I guess it didn't help when FH told me "baby you're going to look beautiful no matter if you lose weight or not". Why did he say that???????? I have noooooooooo motivation.

I have the same problem. I lost 10 lbs and FH said i was sexier before. Who can argue? I promptly stopped going to the gym and gained the weight back in the wrong place. Seriously though, i do need to lose 20 lbs. Sometimes love is hazardous to my health. When you figure out how to regain that motivation, clue me in. Holla!
My motivation is fitting in to a swimsuit that I didnt purchase from Ashley Stewart. I plan on looking good on the beach this year. I have not put on a bathing suit in about 9 years. I always but on a pair of shorts and a tee shirt. Not this year, and not on my honeymoon.

Okay, help me get a different kind of motivation! lol I'm not a beachy person. I'm too scary of jelly fish, sting rays, broken sea shells (y'all get my point).
Actually, starting next week, I'm supposed to start my "diet" and/or exercise. I really want to lose about 20-30 pounds. (Hey, I just thought of something...stay tuned)
DWBride, don't worry! 1-2 pounds a week is actually whats recommended by doctors and dieticians by the AMA and ADA, as well as many other accredited health orgs....
The reason beyond safety is this....If you lose weight fast on a diet, as soon as you stop the diet, you are likely to gain at least half of that back within a month of the weight loss. That really sucks because you work hard to sacrafice your favorite foods, and snacks, etc.
Gradual weight loss is better because its natural, and research of over 7000 who lost weight (50+ pounds) naturally (1-3 lbs/week) found that 1 year later these people did not do anything drastic...cut back, increased exercised a little more, and were able to keep it off, because they had gradually lost weight AND changed their lifestyles at the same time...so there was no STOPPING or FINISHING the diet, because the weight loss became part of a new everyday lifestyle:)

Bump!
How is everyone doing with their eating habits/diets? As for me, I'm still gaining. I'm almost 160lbs (yay!!!), my goal is 165-175 lbs.
Born Blessed!
I can't answer this yet. I went walking yesterday and when I got home, I couldn't move! FH was like, dang baby, usually you feel it the day after, not the same day! That goes to show exactly how out of shape I am. lol But, I'm starting which is good.
That's great, Askalot. Next time you walk, make sure you "warm up" first. Also, stretching reduces your chances of cramping and injury to your muscles. By the way, I put on my ankle weights and walked 4 laps around a large truck stop. Needless to say, I ended up walking a like "Frankenstein" for the next 3 days.lol
Born Blessed!
I didn't warm up first (stupid me). lol I just said, Okay, let's go! lol
I plan on going to Modell's this weekend to purchase ankle weights.
If you're getting ankle weights, MAKE SURE you do what Plat said and stretch!....Girl those things are a sure fat-burner. You are going to love your results.... Just stay at a nice pace, and don't hesitate to push yourself. When I used them it just made my walking efforts work even better. Stay hydrated (I like Smart Water-if you prefer bottle because it replaces electrolytes lost from sweating, but doesn't give you the calories Gatorde has from the sugar). Think about how great and accomplished you'll feel... Happy Walking. Regular water is just fine too. But if you buy bottled its the best way to go.
