I just would like an idea about what you ladies are doing for favors, if you've thought about it yet. If you also don't mind approximately how much per favor/person is it coming out to? 1 per person, or 1 per couple? Tell all right here!
(sure this was asked at some point before...but now that it's ridiculously relevant, I can't find it!)

We're doing photo favors. Each guest will have their picture taken and it will be placed in a photoholder with thank you and our monogram. We are also having a cookie buffet with 8 different types of cookies.
IMO, do something edible. Try to come up with something that won't be left behind. Unless you don't mind having 100 favors to bring back home!
my wedding favors will be mini brooms decorated in our wedding colors with a thank you attached and silver pails of kisses; we are having 100-150 people at the wedding and I do plan to give one to everyone that attends the reception, but I am trying to come up with something different to give to the kids...
FH and I are handing out miniture teacups with a mocha voitive candle in the middle. We're also giving out personalized CDs of the songs that were played during the ceremony.
Were considering caramel dipped apples, drizzled in chocolate
I'll have them wrapped and set each one above the place setting
They run about $3-$5 pp depending what type you chose

I love that idea,
My roommate just went to a wedding where they gave out books of love poems with a bookmark thank you in it.
The books were only like $2 so it wasn't very expensive

I thought about that! I looked at oriental trading and they have some mini bride/groom coloring books with crayon sets; I understand about keeping the kiddies occupied considering I have a 7 yr old myself and with that many people in attendance I don't want them just running around. that tends to happen alot at my church because everyone is so close knit and so everyone kinda looks out for all the kids!!
I'm giving out mini wedding cake candles to each person.

I'm also out personalized wedding/love song CD's - 1 per couple.
Total it equates to about $4 pp.
And my parents are giving out wedding thank you scrolls that states:
When our daughter was a little girl,
we often used to say
how proud and happy we would be
on this, her wedding day.
Our daughter is not lost to us;
in fact, we've gained a son.
We're happy you can share our joy
and see them joined as one.
So, may we welcome all of you,
and may this whole day be
a happy and a joyous one
for friends and family.
Ut Oh, Askalot is setting the mood. All you need is a love cd and a candle.

Askalot, I love those candles. I want to create a CD with our wedding songs and our picture on the CD case. I haven't decided on what other favors we'll have.

You ladies have some great ideas.
S2bMsJ-what are the brooms made out of, where did you get them.
I forgot about the kids...gotta get on that one too I guess
Now i'm gonna check out the links, I'm running out of time here(oh and money!)
You know platinum, Officemax has 100 CDs for $14.99 and they have this special on slim CD covers (buy 1 get 1 free) you get 100 covers in all for 12.98. You're very crafty. If you go to avery.com, you can download the program for free to make the covers and the CD labels are megga cheap as well.
Thank you, Ginoue. That's better than going to Walmart for the CD's and cases. Also, thanks for the site to make the covers. I love this site!!!!

Great brooms housewife
MsBoston
I am actually getting my brooms from the same place where housewife posted. it is going to be a mini version of our jumping broom with the broom attached to a card that says the following:
"Jumping the Broom" is a symbol of
sweeping away the old and welcoming
the new, or a symbol of new beginnings.
Thank you for celebrating our union
and our heritage.

have you considered giving the kids books? They will e appreciated by the parents and it is something they will treasure. You can get them on sale any day at major books stores or THE DOLLAR TREE!
A favor is really a GIFT to your guests. Instead of getting 3 or four trinkets at $3.50 each give one really USEFUL gift to each guest. Give something you would WANT for yourself.

House, I love those jumping broom favors.

Aren't they just divine?!!!
I made broom favors for a friends bridal shower a couple of years ago but I added magnets on the back. We laugh when we go to someone's house and still see it stuck on the frig after 7 years, holding notes & pictures. I guess it was the gift that just keeps on giving...LOL
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
yeah, I have thought about the magnets also...

Wifey, why don't you get the coloring/activity books that come with markers that only show up on the page. Your venue should have no beef with those.
They're called Color Wonder by Crayola.
We're doing CD's also. Thanks for the site for the label template. The ones I found for MS Word weren't very helpful. I'm not using the plastic case though. I am going to use the paper sleeves with the window so that the label shows. Of course we will be giving the sleeve a little makeover.

I'm doing a CD of our wedding music and I'm having a candy "bar" with bags or some kind of takeout box that people can take home, is that enough or should I have another favor?

I would say that's enough. I'm a fan of edible favors, less of a chance of them being left behind. I'm having a cookie bar and pictures.
I like the picture idea too, thats very cute, I know that the best man has the equipment to do that, I'll check and see if I can find a photographer who could do it

I haven't decided for sure yet, but I did find an idea that I really really love and want to do if it is not too expensive. They are wedding cake cookie favors that Martha Stewart has on her website as a DIY idea. This however seems like a rather large project to take on as a DIY, even with help from family and friends, so I plan to print out a photo and take it to the bakery when we go cake hunting in the next couple of months, and see if they are able to do it and for what price! Some of you may have seen the favor online, but I will post an image of it for those who have not.

Those are cute! I think that would be a rather large DIY project repending on the # of people. All that cookie-cutting and frosting and stacking and packaging! Whew! I got tired just typing that!
I am a Christmas bride and we are having Christmas balls with our monogram (that I designed ..:)..) on them ..cranberry with gold writing and also we are having 2 gold (I think the pineapple ones are the closest in color) tied with a cranberry bow that has some gold in it too on every other place setting. Also we are having posettias with candles? on the tables as centerpieces and we are going to give them away as well.

Tif, making those may be easier than you think. All you have to do is get vanilla sandwich cookies or the Blonde Oreo's and stack them together with frosting. They even sell the bite size oreos that could be used for the top layer. Probably wouldn't take much time at all. Only problem would be resisting tempation to eat as you work. I could see me now breaking the cookies apart and looking for a glass of milk..LOL

I saw a favor that we may still use with the cds. It is a spoon with 2 chocolate kisses wrapped with tulle, with a card attached, and tied with a personalized ribbon. The card says "A spoonful of kisses from the Mr. and Mrs." Every picture I've seen has the tulle and spoons white; but I am going to get them in our colors.

I hadn't considered that all. That could actually work. I'll definitely look into doing that. Thank you pamcrow! And by the way, you aren't lying about resisting temptation when it comes to assembling these cookie favors! I have 15 lbs to lose before my first gown fitting, and all of the weight will creep back up on me by the time I'm finished assembling all these cookie favors for around 200 guests...LOL

Tiffy, it would be cheaper for you to make it then to give it to your baker to do. It's only sugar cookies and frosting. Besides, use your wedding party, make a day of it (a few days before your wedding) and make it like an assembly line. Music is playing, you all have a glass of wine in front of you... It will go by very fast.
Wonderful idea!!!

You are right, I know it will be a lot cheaper, and we could make it into a more of fun night with wine and music, rather than a stressful night of hard work and complaining! I guess I wasn't really thinking about everyone coming together and helping me out with this project. I will think about it that way, put my girls to work...LOL!! Does anyone know where I could find the plastic boxes that cover the cookies?

Well Tiffy, as a matter of fact, I do. Papermart.com has the cheapest I've been able to find so far. Take a look at this:
http://www.papermart.com/templates/showimage.asp?PAGE=83082&IMG=itemimg/jpg_giftbox/83-013-xx.jpg
Now all you have to do is turn it upside down, pending the colors of your wedding, use one color paper at the bottom of the box (to make it look fancy) and the other color, your ribbon to finish the job and don't forget to add a cute tag that says "thank you" on top. I know you can do this. You don't have to order the fancier ones, they're more expansive.
A few days ago, I've ordered 3 sets for myself for our wedding. It's the cheapest by far. I ordered the 4x4x4 at $.47 each. The package contained 50 and I was charged $23.25 per pack. I'm having 130 guests, but I ordered 150. It came to $69.75 plus tax. I'm not sure how many guests you're having, but the more you order the less it costs.
Good luck to you
Sorry TiffyB. Here's the picture. Once you're done, all you have to do is turn it upside down.
Those will work perfectly. Now I'm getting more and more excited about doing this wedding cake cookie as a favor. I had pretty much given up on doing this on my own, but now it's a vision once again! Thank you so much! May I ask what you are using the boxes for ginoue?

My MOH asked me to order them three days ago. She said that she needed them for a special favor. Child, it's so top secret, she won't even tell ME. But I trust her wholeheartedly and she has impeccalbe taste. I'm glad that you're getting all excited about doing this. You and your bridal party will have fun doing it. What's great about it is that it's not a "chick" thing. Even the guys could join the assembly line. They may not be into the prep and the baking, but they could assemble with instruction and supervision.
Enjoy!!!
Turiya - Very christmasy!!! Great idea on giving away your centerpieces. We're giving ours away as well.
Tewright, I love the kisses idea with the CDs.
OK, I have gone back and forth with what we'd do for favors, including an idea of doing caramel apples which we are no longer doing. But we finally have finalized what we're doing ...
#1 -- We have a caricature artist who decorates his paper with your names and wedding date. Guests can come and sit to have their sketch drawn, and he rolls the sketch in a pretty ribbon and cellophane, and the guest takes the sketch home.
#2 -- Our ceremony is in a garden, so we're serving lemonade and bottled water in the garden just after the ceremony. The bottled water will have personalized labels.
#3 -- At every place setting, there will be this cute cookie cutter favor. The cookie cutter is in the shape of a leaf (for our fall wedding) and is attached by ribbon to this card that has our names and wedding date on it and says "Truly Fallen for Each Other." The card also has a sugar cookie recipe and says something like, "We hope whenever you use this recipe, you'll recall the sweet memories of our wedding day." These are SO CUTE!! I can't post the picture b/c I'm at work, but you can see it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/24-Fall-Leaf-Cookie-Cutters-w-Recipes-Wedding-Favors_W0QQitemZ130143292514QQihZ003QQcategoryZ20937QQcmdZViewItem
