I had already decided that I wanted to be my first dance song but the Etta James version.

Michele, that's the song that my FH will be dancing too as well. There's no other version that I love more than Ms. Etta James.
I do love me some Beyonce too though. I loved the song "I'd rather go Blind." Did you see Cadillac Records? She was excellent as Etta James

Same here, G. Etta's version gives me goosebumps. I always dreamed about dancing to it with my husband at our wedding. Now I just put on the DVD and enjoy! I think the Obamas were a little self-conscious about the number of people watching them dance though. I was surprised they played the song for almost every ball the went to. I was wondering if they weren't getting tired dancing to the same song.
Also, the designer of her evening gown, Jason Wu, said it was meant to represent "new hope." I can definitely see that because the white floral has a bridal look, and when a couple marries, they are hopeful about their marriage and their future. In a way, the first family is "marrying" the American people, committing themselves to us, as we are committing ourselves to them, at least for the next 4 years...(hopefully more!)...seeking a brighter future and a new beginning.
Here's a similar look from designer Maggie Sottero:

Oh I really LOVE that! "Marrying the American people." Just perfect.

I didn't like Michelle's dress for the balls. The Maggie dress is the one I thought of when I saw it and I've never liked that dress either. They both make me think of toilet paper, tissue paper, or spitballs. LOL! Now I loved the camel and black and likesd the suit for the inauguration ceremony though.

The look isn't for everyone. I know I passed it over when looking at dresses online before my wedding, but in the last few months I've been looking at it again and going, "hmmmm." I think it would look real pretty in a garden setting especially if a bride is doing white flowers like the Asian bride I posted. However, white flowers are not me. I like cheerful, bright colors in flowers. It also reminds me of a picture I saw of Grace Kelly wearing a similar design.
I just heard that ABS plans to produce their version of the first lady's inaugural ballgown.

Isabel Toledo, who designed Michelle Obama's outfit for the swearing-in cermony, settled the debate about what color the inaugural dress was. Depending on the light, the lace-overlaid fabric ranged from green to yellow to gold. The actual color, Toledo said, is called lemongrass.
