The Good and the Bad

The Good: Well, me and FH went to Orlando to visit the resort we were thinking of having the ceremony and reception at and we love it. My FH fell in love with the site immediately upon arrival....there are dozens of waterfalls, the site just had a million dollar renovation, the decoration of the gazebo, tables, sweetheart table, chair linens and white sashes are all included among other things, and the price is right! This particular place has only been doing weddings at their site since March, so we are taking advantage for some great prices with beautiful, pictureseque surrondings. I know in about 3-4 years they will have those $10,000 food and beverage minimums the other hotels in this area have! As soon as I learn how, I will post some of the pics we took. PLUS, my Pastor here in Tallahassee is eager to perform our wedding in Orlando, so it'll be like I'm having it in my church anyways!

The BAD: Why is it that EVERYONE (i.e. both our parents, other family members) need to constantly grill us about how are we going to pay for it(out of OUR pockets of course)....why are we having it in central florida instead of FTL (my hometown)...why such a lavish hotel (I mean we're not talking the Four Seasons or the Peabody Hotel here , but its still a beautiful place).....we should have it in a church to cut costs (but my research shows this is not always true), plus I don't have a church home in Orlando, and usually the costs for a non-member run about 500.00 (donation and fees) same as the hotel ceremony (w/ decorations included and changing rooms)....Oh why don't you spend the week in Orlando at the theme parks instead of breaking the bank to go to Hawaii or some island cause its too much money...and blah blah blah......I mean we have gotten to the point where we have to keep mum about the decisions we make, how much we are going to spend, because lets face it, some people just can't understand spending 5000-7000 for a wedding ceremony and reception (Not much compared to many weddings in the US...this has gone from exciting to almost secretive.....I mean, one of my aunts told me that a wedding is all about the family, and not the couple! What the heck is going on here?!? So now, we have to be vague about decisions we make....and all of my responses have now been like, oh we're still discussing it, but I am tired of justifying my reasons for getting married next year instead of 2 years from now, and having to break down the price of everything because somebody is "just curious as to how much this wedding is going to cost!" I don't even want to discuss how much we spent for the rings (I spent 1400.00 for his and its beautiful w/ his 1/2 carats and all-I have an idea of what my set cost him)...but they're paid for-so thats all that matters but....Aaaahhhhh!
Had to vent....

Re: The Good and the Bad

Hi Bee, Sorry about The Bad, The Good sounds great! It's your day, no one can tell you and FH what you should do for your day. You have 9mos. take some time figure you menu, and negotiate with the people at the site. Get them to give you someyhing. I know you can do it. As for the honeymoon, have a blast! Go where ever y'all want to go. You work for your money, no one else, so nobody can tell you how to spend it. NEGOTIATE!

Living my life like it's GOLDEN!!

You have my permission to use my wedding quote to answer ALL questions. "My day, My way, My pay." End of discussion. But the place sounds beautiful. Enjoy it.

Hi there BumbleBee! Girl experience has taught me that everyone has an opinion. They will try and talk you out of the wedding of your dreams. My family did that to me as well, now mind you my fiance and I are paying for EVERYTHING! I don't pay them no mind, because this is my wedding. Do your thing, because in the end only you and your fiance have to approve. Be blessed and have the wedding of your dreams.

Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37

Re: The Good and the Bad

Gyrl tell them if they want to have inputs then input the bill. I had to let FH brother know that since he ant paying for my wedding I dont care what he has to say. He was tryna tell FH that a wedding shouldnt cost more than $500 with EVERYTHING included but the honeymoon. He was trippin and I just about cussed him out for it. His wife, my MOH, had to tell him to shut up because its our wedding. He said if he gave us money he wanted to know where it would go,and me being a bridezilla said a few things that shut his mouth and every other mouth that had something to say. That was in January and since then nobody from FH family has asked me anything about my plans except MOH and she has more of a right to because she helping me with everything.
