Vibride sisters, I need your help:
I have very thick relaxed hair. Over the last year, the back of my hair has broken off but the top has remained long. Since it's thick, you really can't tell that the back is as short as it is. I thought that I might have been pulling my hair when I wrapped it and tied a scarf around it at night. I switched to a silk scarf but it's still breaking.
Any ideas or suggestions on hair care products, techniques, tips or covers that I can try?

Change your pillowcase as well. Also, start using Come Back Hair. That stuff really works.
Askalot, who makes Come back hair? Where can I find it?

You need get your endes clipped and get a deep conditioner. You should also do try leave in hair treatments such as hot oil.

I don't know too much about hair care (unfortunately) however speaking of hair care I had been grappling with this issue for a while. I wanted to get a style that I can go from reception to honeymoon with without having to see a sylist. I wanted to do some sort of quik-weave that'll be nice pinned up and look good down, but I'm not sure if it'll hold up in the water (love to swim, and hoping to try jet skiing). I don't want to look like a hot mess on my honeymoon, but if I go au natural...that's exactly what'll happen. Never worn a weave before. Ideas?
How are you ladies going?
Ms. Boston, I actually plan on getting microbraids (the wavy kind). I am going to a stylist so she can pin it up really pretty for the wedding and it's can still be sexy and pretty for the honeymoon. If it gets wet it will just wave up more...
Aija I would recommend deep conditioning and getting your ends clipped.

Ms. Boston I have natural hair. I wore a weave on my wedding day in a pinned up do. I think my hair stylist did an awesome job, but I just wanted to tell you it was falling down by the 3rd day. -- Just my personal experience, but I don't think it will last if it is pinned up.

Ajia, I don't know who makes it, but you can find it almost any beauty supply store. I clipped my FH's dead ends, and he had a fit because he said I cut too much.
DR...So I guess a pinned up weave won't do. (3 days won't cut it...it'll be jacked by hour four LOL. was it sewn? and does it matter? Thanks for the input.
SoontoBB...considering the amont of time it take to get them, would it be wise to get them done a week in advance, or is that to far out??
wavy...good idea, won't have to worry about it getting wet and causing hairdrama.
In case anyone is looking...see forum named HAIR...very helful.
I plan on getting my braids done a least a week in advance so they can loosen up some before they get pulled, twisted and tucked into the hairdo, also so they can soften up a little so the veil and tiara combs can fit in there easier. I also want to go to my stylist so she can try some styles out...I don't want to be experimenting the morning of the wedding...
Great idea soon2b!

Thanks for the advice ladies. I go to the beautician every two weeks and get a deep conditioning as well as trim my ends when needed. I called my doctor today and he reminded me that I have a history of anemia. Having low iron levels can trigger hair loss. I'm going to go see him on Friday and see if my iron levels have fallen that much. I'll keep you posted.

Yes it was sewn in, and it took two and a half hours to do. It looked wonderful, but by day three the pins were falling out -- I wouldn't recommend pinned up styles for trips anywhere near water.

DR...Thank you, thank you! THAT would have been a big mistake! See, I'm sooo glad I can ask advise and get a real respoce from someone that knows! I'm going to have to start researching for some styles that'll last. stylist in Boston aren't all that. Iv'e been reading that it's a good idea to get a test run of the style you want, but i'm not too sure about that because of $, and time it'll take. I don't know...maybe i will, it'll be worth it if i end up finding something that'll suit me. we'll see.

Here's an update. The doctor says that my iron levels are not low but we think that we found the cause. I wear a winter scarf everyday to fill in my neck. When I wear it, it rubs the back of my hair, sometimes catching it. Now that I know, I won't wear it, or put a scarf on my hair first. Thanks again!

I have problems with my hair, but its self-inflicted. I just don't do my hair. I wear hats a lot, and then I miss appointments too. I am currently using Aphogee treatment and shampoo for the next 6 weeks (well, this is week 4)to stop breakage and boost growth again. Buts thats just because I work 3 jobs and I go to grad school full-time to I have little time for me. Not to mention ministry work and other things. However I am dropping a lot of the other stuff, and my work schedule is going to relax since I start an internship in Jan-Aug. Next week I will test drive styles and see. I am leaning towards either micros or a weave that can be pinned up, but then I can take it down and wear it in different styles after the wedding. I won't be dipping my head deep in water afterwards so I'm not worried about wet hair. My stylist will definitely help me out.

Chile, my baby brother (23 y/o)-(also getting married next year-7/7/07) Is a Deacon at our church, a minister in training, he too teaches at FSU while in grad school full time-has a flourishing graphic design business that he and his fiance run, and a clothing line he runs on his own, as well as work 40 hours a week at a scholarship fund company at FAMU as their graphic designer. Plus other ministry work. So he has ME beat....
Its all GOD though....Plus We both are graduating next year so he can do his businesses full time. I can run my business full time, and we are both applying to teach at the local community college, and I am also looking to work for the state, so our plates won't be as full.....The ultimate goal is to do our businesses full time in a way to stop working those "cash cow" jobs....

I just saw this post from you and your love and excitement for the Lord is contagious! It's coming out the computer.

That is what caused my hair to fall out this summer. It was BAD. I had to take iron for a long time. I still take a pill here and there. It turned my poop green, but it worked. Ok, I know...TMI..but it did!
I sooo dislike iron, but I am the queen of anemia so I have no choice. At one point I considered an iron infusion. Aphogee rocks for damaged hair despite the horrible smell :( I messed around and decided on a whim to get some bangs, now i'm praying for a miracle that I can grow them out. see what happens when you're impulsive (shame on me)So I guess I have a few dates w/ aphogee myself. Bumble, keep at it...your almost there!
I love Aphogee! I got my hair cut into a bob a few weeks ago because it was damaged and uneven. I figured out why my hair was breaking off at the nape of my neck. I was wearing one of those satin bonnets at night and the elastic would rub against the hair.
Born Blessed!
