Hello Ladies,
I need some help finding out what takes place during a Ceremony from Senegal? My fiancee' is from Dakar, Senegal and I'm a Sista from USA. I'm trying to surprise him with an African-American Wedding Ceremony. I found a site a few months back but lost it on my hard drive somehow. All I have on my list is African Dancers, Drummers, Elders reading during ceremony to inform the Guest what is taken place, The tieing of our hand, and I must have shells. I hope someone is out there that has some answers. Thank You so much for your time. Any info would be helpful Blessings to All.

Hi Jill.....sorry I can not help you with the information you are looking for, but be assured that one of the ladies here (Phenomonique, Rhonda or Rosetta)can help--but I wanted to say Hello and Welcome to the site. :-)
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Welcome to the boards, JillTP007! Congratulations on your wedding. I am not an expert on African wedding ceremonys but I see the following information on a site that gave information on cultural traditions "Senegal wedding traditions vary with religious beliefs, usually Muslim or Cristian and both civil and religious ceremonies are performed. Among the Mlomp, the groom traditionally gave the bride's parents a gift of palm wine before the wedding, as part of the brideprice. Traditionally, the bride wears white to represent her purity and gold to represent her value." It's not much, but I hope that it is helpful. Good luck in your planning. Please keep us posted!
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
A groom was explaining to me the whole "process" of a Senegales marriage ceremony, from purification, to the delivering of the bride. It's a seven day event for the bride, groom, and their families. And as Rhonda mentioned very similar to Muslim traditions. But sounds so very beautiful.
Living my life like it's GOLDEN!!
I want to Thank You All for your help and advice. I read that article too. Somehow I'll get the additional information needed. It is a beautiful ceremony from what I've read and the anwers I've got from him. This is a community affair because in Senegal the community is your family.
Please keep me posted if anyone has anything to add.
God Bless,
TP
