HELP! suggestions needed for a first time bride!!!

Hi everyone!! I so happy i found this site! I am for the first time getting married in Jamaica at a resort. I'm getting married this August. The resort is handling all the other details. And so far everything has been going great. All i have to do is show up with my wedding dress and my accessories. My main problem is I have no idea what to do with my hair!! I have 100% natural hair that falls below my shoulders. If I press it it falls to bra strap length. I arrive in jamaica on 8/8/06 but i don't get married until aug. 11. I was thinking about going natural and just doing wash n gos for the first two days since i will most likely be getting my hair wet anyway. And on my wedding day, getting it pressed and styled. The only problem is want to get my hair professionally done at the resort but i'm afraid there would not be any one familiar with my type of hair. And also if they do a press I don't know how it will hold up against Jamaica's humidity. My other hair option is to do human hair micro braids. I would love to do straight human hair braids and then for my wedding have them softly curled by the salon. But yet since i'm natural my hair will be most likely revert underneath. The second option is to braid using wavy/curly hair so my hair can be better camouflaged underneath. My fiance and i went to jamaica 2 years ago and loved it! At that time I had a tiny afro that i had in curly micro braids but by the end of the trip since i was constantly getting them wet my hair looked a hot mess! I just don't want to look a hot mess on my wedding day. And i'm more nervous cuz i don't know what "kind" of salon this resort has. Any suggestions what I can do with my hair!?!

TIA, jasmine:)

Welcome to the site Jasmine. I think the micro braids would look nice. And on the day of get them soft curled. You may be surprised what salons in Jamaica can do. Have you contacted the resort for a listing of salons yet?

Welcome to the boards Jasmine. We are hapy you found us too! If you are black make sure you tell them that you want a black salon. Also it is JAMAICA. What kind of natural hair you have that they haven't seen yet??? lol. You will want to get it braided as sea air will do a NUMBER on pressed hair. Also you will look fabulous on your honeymoon right after sex with no need to wonder if your hubby's first look at his wife in the morning will be a scary one.

Thanks ladies for the advice! I think i'm leaning towards getting braids. I realize i'm in jamaica and there is more of us there. However, the previous time i went to jamaica, the sandals resort had caucasions doing hair in their onsite salon. I did email my wedding coordinator at the couples resort, and i'm waiting for her to reply. If anything, i guess i could go into town to find a place that can deal with my hair. I would feel more comfortable if a black person was doing my hair. Anyway, so should i have my hair pressed underneath the human hair braids so it can blend properly with the extensions? I like the look of soft curls with the microbraids, but i don't want my natural to revert and look crazy with 2 different hair textures on my head! Unless, i try to not to get my whole hair wet while swimming for the 8 days i'm there. There's no fun in that but i could make this exception just once since it is my one and only weddingmoon!! Ugh...decisions, decisions, decisions!, lol!!

Hey Jasmine and welcome to the boards! I agree with Askalot (SeptBride) and Rosie, I would suggest that you get your hair braided and soft curled on your wedding day. It is the hassle free way to go. Good luck and keep us posted.

I think micros would be perfect, because if they are done right, the texture of your natural hair shouldn't matter.

And, just like Rosie said, this is Jamaica we are talking about. I am sure you can find a hair dresser to style your hair. If you don't want to chance it, then just get the micros.

Are you wearing a veil? If so, depending on what kind of veil you are wearing, you don't need anything too, too fancy because the veil will cover it anyway.

i agree w/ the micros... and you must remember you are in jamaica - not sure where in jamaica you're going but they do braids on the streets. The internet of course is your greatest resource in finding a decent braider/stylist in jamaica. good luck and congrats!
