My financee' and I have been together for 2years. We both had homes prior to our engagement. Any ways we have all things needed for a house between the two of us. We do not need any household gifts we have enough as it is. so how do i include in my invitation we prefer money or gift cards? I did register at walmart just so that people don't think we are begging for money!!!

ukissbac, There are so many ways to request money as a gift, but most consider it very tacky. People who are aware that you have household items would probably give you money anyway, so fear not. We have a popular article on this site addressing that very issue. To read the article click here.

Have you ever heard of doing a wishing well? It's where you make a little poem that suggest that the guest make there wish for you by putting money into a box or something cute you can make.
Great idea sweetcake and welcome to both of you to the boards! I have the perfectarticle, ukissbac. Although you should NEVER put on your invite that you prefer money the article has great ways to say it if you absolutely have to.

Rosetta, I wish I had read this article before my wedding, better yet, I wish I could have given it to some of my family members. Prior to my wedding, both my husband and I had our own apts. We moved in together about a year before the wedding. WOUld you believe I still got mixing bowls, bar sets, cake platters, dishes,a blender amd something called a wedge ( another topic). BUt the kooky thing is it all came from my family, these same people were there when I initially moved out on my own. It's been just about a year since the wedding (yeah:) and most of things are still packed in my pantry. I tried regifting it to people I knew having house warming parties. I didn't think people still gave you actual gifts for a wedding, a bridal shower yes, but a wedding. I just assumed everyone gave monetary gifts. Now I know better!!!

I'm obsessed with small appliances, bath and bed linens, dishes, and glassware. I already have two formal china settings for 8 and stemware for both (you gotta love a sale). I'm registering for serving pieces to go with them, and having a wishing well.
Wishing wells are the best, they hold the most wonderful goodies :) LOL Here's another simple wishing well that you can decorate yourself. Not a bad price either

I have a house full of household items so I don't have a need for more toasters, blenders, etc.I read the article on asking for monetary gifts but I really don't like the examples used.Does anyone know other ways to ask for monetary gifts?
Born Blessed!
Not sugar coating it, you may just have say what you want, if you get too technical some people may not understand what you are saying.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

I went to a house warming on Saturday. In the invitation, they said "Iyana prefers gift cards from Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond and Linen and Things. Monetary gifts are also welcome". I swear that girl got about $2500 ($1000 from her parents) but she still did good!
Even though wedding are full of stress - there are some people who wish you well and WILL give you what you want.

Word of mouth is good but people forget so it's good to have it written down just as a precious reminder.
