I had chose one dress that I thought was "the one". I went to Phenomonique's store "Phenomenal Affairs" and tried on a few more dresses. Then I tried on "The One" and I loved it. I had my MOH, daughter and neice with me and they all agreed that last dress I tried on was IT!! That was the deciding factor for me it just felt right, and looked good. I was sold!

I picked out the ones I liked from looking at magazines (and located the stores the dresses were in) as well as taking suggestions from my friends (even if I didn't like them by looking at them) and the ones I hated the most was the ones I picked for myself, and the ones I liked the best of course were suggestions...I tried on about 20 dresses and the one I liked the best I tried on twice. It was different, and made me feel like a queen, while being flattering...not too many details, but not plain....it is very very different, demure, but sexy! A showstopper in my eyes.
We did take pictures at the second 2 stores with the Digital and loaded them on the laptop...That also helped me make decisions...The price was a factor due to my budget...I could have easily purchased some that looked great on me for 1000.00, 1100.00 dollars, but I rather daddy spend half that on a dress and the other half elsewhere!
The hardest part was learning that what I liked didn't look good, so I had to think outside the box...and then so many looked great on me, so then it became about the $$$$....
I can see myself wearing a queenly tiara with it....I only went to three stores...now BM dresses...I am still working on it...

Nikki,
I actually chose about 8 different dresses from magazines and online that I liked. I then went into the store and actually tried on some of the styles that I chose. Once I learned what type of dresses really complimented my build, it was easy from that point. Once I tried the "actual one" on. That was that, I was in love.
Truthfully, it was love at first sight...when I first saw the dress in the magazine end of 2004, I KNEW that was the one. I got engaged the following Spring, searched for it (online & in stores), prayed to God it wasn't discontinued & was in my price range & bought it!
I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

Keep them coming girls. That is the thing sometimes the ones we think that don't look so hot on the hanger looks good on you.and 2nd opinion is vital because I live over here on my own (all my family back home) i had no one to go with me, and face it some stores only wanted a sale (no disrespect to phenominique)and these people are so fake over here every thing is "lovely or stunning" when you can see for yourself you don't look hot. That is why I went to usa for help and advice plus the dresses there are way cheaper than over here.
OK U LADIES MAY FIND THIS STRANGE. MY OLDEST DAUGHTER WENT TO HER PROM AND WANTED A $500 WEDDING GOWN FOR THE OCCASION. WELL AS FAR AS I WAS CONCERNED, THAT WAS OUT OF THE QUESTION! SO HER AND I MADE AN AGREEMENT. IF SHE CLD GET UP 1/2 THE MONEY, AND WE FOUND A DRESS THAT I ALSO LIKED, IT WLD BE OK. PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THIS CHILD WAS SUPPOSED TO GET A PART TIME JOB TO HELP W/PROM COST AND DID NT. SO THIS WAS ALSO A LESSON 4 HER. WHY DO CHILDREN WANT THE WORLD BUT ARE NT WILLING TO STRUGGLE TO GET??? OK!! ANYWAY, I DIGRESS. SO MY WEDDING COLORS ARE RED, WHITE AND SILVER. SHE FOUND A BEAUTIFUL GOWN IN RED AND WHITE. WE AGREED AND SHE AND I WENT 1/2. SO INSTEAD OF A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY, I SPENT $200 FOR MY WEDDING GOWN AND SHE SPENT $200 FOR HER PROM GOWN AFTER SALE. SINCE HER PROM WAS MAY OF 2005 AND MY WEDDING JULY OF 2007 IT DEFINITLY WORKED. THE BEST PART IS THE GOWN LOOKED BEAUTIFUL ON HER AND LIKE IT WAS MADE 4 ME SO WE WERE BOTH HAPPY.

Thats cool Tajmom....I really dont remember how I picked my dress...well really I havent offically picked it becasue I havent bought a dress yet but I wanted something different. I always see brides in White or Ivory so I wanted something a little different yet traditional. So I chose 2 dresses that I saw on EBAY that were red and white and I think I will be ordering one of those. If not I willbe getting a dress that is red and white. My colors are red, white and silver as well.
I'm trying to maintain a strict budget so I looked on the internet. Actually I checked out by way of a search engine and typed in cheap wedding dresses.(Don't laugh at me, y'all)!Several websites popped up and I found my favorite dress on www.stylishbridal.com.

well my dress selection isn't official but the way i picked the one i'm feeling so far is the phenomenal phenomonique mentioned a dress designer house (hollywood dreams) and i searched them out. I was stuck on one dress and knew it had to be mine, with a small change. But the bodice was ever so perfect
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way. ~ Pablo Neruda
My experience is similiar to Tajmom's. I chose to wear my mother's wedding dress. Don't say it ladies. She got married in 1990 back home in Ohio. So the dress is not that old. She had it made so it one of a kind. It falls off the shoulders and the train has a loop for a finger to carry it because it is rather long. My mother was my age at the time (34) so it is on point. The dress is smokin'. I chose this dress to be my something old. I think I have started something because my little sister is talking about wearing it too. Luckily we're all about the same size and have the same curves so altering is not needed. Cleaning and pressing are definately needed.
Wearing a dress that is "borrowed" or "given" to you by another family member is so cool. It is a wonderful way to have something "old", or "something borrowed". -- and you save money too!

I haven't chosen yet. I want something light that will blow in the wind so it will look nice on the beach. Any suggestions?
I say looks for form fitted dresses or tea length dresses. Alfredo Angelo has good dresses also I saw a tea length wedding dress that was soo cute at Davids bridal. It looks like a wedding dress at the top but the bottom stops at your calf. Check them out,if I can find pictures I will post them.
Great suggestions, Allies!

That is a good idea to take a camera when you are trying on the dresses so you can get some sort of idea on how the dresses will look on you. I went to DB for my dress as well and when I was talking to my consultant, I asked her how will I know if I have found the right dress. She told me that I will know its the right dress as soon as I put it on. She said also to pay attention to the people's reaction when you step out of the dressing room. She said that if people just look without making a comment, then that isnt the right dress. She said that if people stop and admire the dress telling me that I look beautiful then thata the one for me. And she was ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!

Leanne, you could get the gown bustled to add a twist to the gown. I bet it's HOT!
