This was my first general election at my new polling place and my 5th presidential election. I preferred the old place. This one had 3 precincts at the 1 polling place! The lines were loooooong!...but thankfully, they moved fast. All in all, it took me 2 hours. If I had arrived there real early it would have taken much longer. Everyone seeemed to be in a great mood, though.
On the ballot was a question to start early voting in Maryland. I'm definitely all for that because it would have been nice to vote early.
I'm working from home today, so that I can get all the news as it happens on all the networks.

Awesome ViPrincessBride. I am at work and will be casting my vote this evening. I just hope the lines move quickly also.

I was at my polling place 7:30 am and the parking lot was hectic but once inside there it wasn't bad. Inside my polling place there are seven districts and there was no one in line for my district so I was able to vote as soon as I walked in. I was happy I didn't have to wait but a little disappointed at the same time. Hopefully people got there earlier or the long line I expected will be afterwork. It was REALLY good to see alot of young voters out.
No matter which party wins this is history in the making. Just like when the OJ trail verdict was read and when 911 happened, you will remember exactly what you were doing when the winner gets announced. Can't Wait !!!!

I just read something so disturbing. This man said that he is not voting for anyone, but rather against them. He said that we should be afraid to have a President named President Obama.
That is such ignorant thinking. However, the unfortunate thing is that there are a lot of people who feel that way. What a shame.

I early voted last Tuesday, and it's going to be a long night for me. I'm going to wait up until the results are finalized...one my of my co-workers told me that her neighbor voted for McCain, because Hilary didn't win. Now, the woman voted Democrat her entire life...what does it really sound like to y'all? It makes me wonder how many of those voters are actually voting McCain for that tired reason.
I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

So true Cinny. It's a shame but there are a lot of shallow people out there.
One of my co-workers (who is hispanic) said that he wants Obama to win so he can fail -- what kind of nonsense is that!!!

I voted early this morning and also watched a guy have to deal with the foolish poll ladies. the guy was registered twice and one of the ladies tried to turn him away from voting. I couldnt believe it. his ID matched up completely with the new registry and address difference from the other (the guy was European, democrat BTW). Another voter (white, republican)in front of me said to the ladies it doesn't matter if he is registered twice, he is only voting once. They were going at it for a minute. I did feel better to see that even though they were voters from opposite ends-they came together to fight for him to have his chance to VOTE!
My daughter came home and told me the coolest thing. She is 6 years old and in the first grade and from what she was telling me I guess in her school they had the kids place a vote on who they wanted to vote for in this election(fake of course). She told me that the children was not allowed to share with thier peers who they voted for. She told me the paper had a picture of a brown man and a white man on it. She told me she voted for the brown man and his name is woorach obama (her pronunciation, not mine). So I asked her why she voted for him and her answer was "because he is brown like me".
I just think it's cool that they are teaching children in the schools
at such a young age the importance of voting. Although my daughters only reason was "because he is brown like me", I think that she is on the right track at her age.
I woke up at 5 this morning to make sure to cast my vote. I was only in line for less than a half an hour though. When the poles opened up I was way ahead. So very glad. FH has to wait to vote after work. I don't envy him because he's in FL where the pole lines are incredibly long. I tried to tell him to do it early and get it over with, but he's stubborn.

I was watching the news on Halloween and they showed this one little boy who was dressed up like a voting booth. On one side of the booth was a pic of Obama and on the other side was a pic of McCain. Under each pic was a slot to put candy in. The person giving candy was basically voting for their candidate by placing candy in whichever slot. The news never did say which slot received the most "votes". I thought this was such a clever idea.

when i was in elementry school we did Mock Voting too, but we had the donkey and the elephant. Alot of the schools in my area have mock voting. I love it! My little brother is also very much into the topics now at age 10 because of that idea. I think it's great too.
Cool stories. I voted on Sunday (Oct 24th) to get it out of the way. My precinct is smaller, not too busy but I did it early anyways. There is lots of hoopla here in Tallahassee, FL. I am just glad in a few hours (may be like a day or 2) it will be over and done. Of course I am wanting my candidate to win!

Has anyone brought their young kids with them to vote? I brought my daughter into the poll booth once when she was younger. Now she is old enough to vote herself and she called me all excited after she cast her vote. She said she's feeling very patriotic and happy that her first chance to vote was for such a huge election. She said all giggly "Mommy I'm a big girl now, I voted. I feel like an adult" :o)

Awe that is so special!!! I will definitely bring my kids when they get a little older to have a better understanding
My daughter came home this afternoon to meet my hubby and I so that we can vote as a family when I get off work today.
I've always taken her when she was little so that she would know that, that is something that we do and it would come naturally.

Okay...why there is a need for clowns like this to stop by and screw things up. They had to remove a couple of Black Panthers from a polling place in Philidelphia. So stupid!
Unbelievable!

That's great! My husband hasn't changed his polling place yet. So, he just left to go vote at his old precinct. Voting is never to be taken for granted. We put them in there, and we take them out!
Though, for all our democracy, we're just catching-up to the rest of the world with voting for a female or a person of color in a major election. It took far too long, but I'm happy we're here. Yes!

Since, I've been home today, I've noticed that the GOP is running mad advertisements featuring Obama with Rev. Wright. How long ago was that situation??!!! They are grasping for straws.

I think it is EXTREMELY important for the parents to take their kids with them to vote. My parents took me to every single election with them. And I have yet to miss ANY election since I was able to vote. I'm not doing it with my kids and they say they can't wait until they can vote themselves!
My children have been to the polls with me all their life. My son went the 1st time when he was in a carrier (he was born in June 2000 and the election was in November 2000). For the last 2 years he has been punching (or marking, or touching) my ballot! They also did a mock election in his school. Obama won 176 to 8! My daughter went with me also. She kept yelling "Rockobama is cool!" LOL!
"Rockobama" That's cute
