It it too wierd to serve traditional Thanksgiving food at my wedding reception? I really love thanksgiving and I would love to have turkey and dressing for dinner more than once a year.I brought this up to a friend and she didnt look too pleased with my idea. She said "thats something only you would do".Well at least I'l/it be original right?

I like the idea Allies. I have heard it time and time again on this site..."it's your wedding". The nice thing is you can do whatever you want. You friend is complaining now, but I bet she will be throwing down on that food come your wedding day.
Ok your friend is just silly. You can get a thanksgiving style meal in almost any real restaurant anywhere in the US. I LOVE thanksgiving. The turkey the stuffing the homemade cranberry sauce! Yummmmmm. Who wouldn't love that?? have your thanksgiving reception. Amp up the food to gourmet style if you want to get fancier or even go so far as to decorate along a harvest theme. People have christmas receptions in July and Winter themeed receptions in the Hot, balmy tropics. nlbostic got it right. It's YOUR very special day. Have FUN!

AllieS.....is it you who always have these stupid friends with the dumb comments?....Listen forget her as a matter of fact don't invite her (she made me mad)...Rosey is so correct, have whatever you want and fancy it up it - if Turkey is what you want to have then so be it...we do not celebrate Thanskgiving in the Bahamas but I sure loves me some turkey especially the wing when its nice and crispy...yummmm. Bump that girl, its all about you!
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
AllieS, let me remind you of my favorite words "It's your day, do it your way"! I've learned when it comes to planning my wedding people, will not be as enthusiastic as I will. How dare her make a comment like "that's something only you would do". What kind of a comment is that???? Gurl do your thing. My wedding is in November and that ThanksGiving theme is sounding quite wonderful to me too! (Although as Rosetta said you can do it anytime of the year). I think I read in an earlier post that ThanksGiving holds a special meaning to you. Gurl it is all about you anyway. Everyone is not going to have positive input, so a word to the wise give your questions to the ViBrides! (hey that rhymes -- lol)
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
Thank you Rony...ya hear that AllieS!.....talk to no one other than your sisters, at least if we roll our eyes, you will not know (lol)
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
.....cause we got your back!!!!!
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
I don't see anything wrong with Thanksgivng food at your reception.Girl...it's your day!Have it your way. As a matter of fact, I'm considering having lasagne and other italian foods at mine.I'm originally from South GA and most people would think about soul food for the reception but I wanted something different.
Born Blessed!
Platinum I need directions to your wedding...noticed I did not say an invitation cause I am family(that hold you!)....I love Lasagne and I coming for some...yummm :-)I would adore a wedding with something like that, totally different and delicious at the same time :-)
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

You know we ViBrides are trendsetters! You can serve what ever you want at your reception! PlatinumS... gurl that italian food is sounding real good!
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
Thanks for the encouragement guys.....after my "friend" said that I was kinda discouraged about it.But after my sisters backed me up I talked to my FH about my idea and he said he loves it.So we WILL be having a turkey, honey baked ham, dressing and the works from the Honey Baked Ham store at our reception. I think I will buy sista girl a pack of luch meat, bread and cheese to eat since she dont want turkey.Imma sit it on a nice platter just for her with her name on it.
Platinum I wanted to be different too.I always hear of people serving beef and pork or chicken.I want you to get full and remember my big day.Not just that I got married that day but the food too.How much about the food do you really remember if its the same 'ol stuff. You can get chicken and beef at home but not too many people cook up a whole turkey any day but thanksgiving. So call it crazy if you want I dont care anymore.
I love it...nothing like some good turkey with gravy...yummm (mouth watering)

Its a very popular store here in Cali.I will save all the wings for my sistahs here. Since I'm not a big cook I'm going to let them do all the cooking so my turkey can look perfecto! and not burnt like i would probably make it.......Charley you got me thinking about buying a ham too now...........I think I'm just hungry and just need to go eat....lol.
Sorry AllieS.....I reall was hungry when I posted this, I had a slimfast and let me tell you now ladies...water just do not stay on a hill, so I was in some serious need of food. I know I am trying to lose weight but not at the expense of being hungry so bump slimfast...only thing that did was make me hungry fast. lol

Y'all are making me hungry! The Honeybaked Ham Store has really good ham and turkey.Alvinslove, check and see if they have any special discounts since you're ordering this for your reception.
Born Blessed!
A-love, did you talk to anyone at the Honeybaked Ham store?I don't think the Lasagne idea is going to work for me because I'm not using a caterer.I have to look at cooking the food, storing and reheating for the reception. So, it's back to the drawing board for me...
Born Blessed!
I actually ordered a catalog but it really didnt help me out much.I know that the turkeys are like $50-$60 for like a 20 lb and the Hams are $75-$125. Since I will be having a buffet style reception for 100 I decided to fry some chicken cuz that really stretches out more.I didnt check on any specials because I really dont like most of their sides and I think it will be much cheaper to make my own.I will be cooking the side dishes and putting them in the freezer or refridge depending on how early I need to cook it.Since I will be near my house and all FH sisters houses it will be easier to heat and bring to reception/wedding area.
OK honey...where is your reception going to be again....the last thing you want is too many hands in the pot...you know what the old cliche says...
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Charly I will be having my reception at my sister-in-laws house as will I my weddign. I dont know the old saying...what is it? I do plan on having his sisters help me cook and heat up food tho.....does it have something to do with that?
