Hello ladies!
After months of planning for a wedding...my FH and I decided to just go to the Justice of the Peace with our immediate family and have a really nice dinner afterwards...and maybe throw a huge celebration this summer. (a boat load of stress is off of my shoulders) But how do we announce our marriage to our family and friends and do we still expect gifts??? What is the proper etiquette???

Justice of the Peace
Hello ladies!

Hi Dymeme, I wish you all the best. If you already sent out invitations you could say something like this: "Mr. & Mrs ______ regret that they are obliged to recall the invitations to the marraige of their daughter _______________ to Mr. _____. The ceremony will be held privately in the presence of the immediate family." If you have not sent out the invitations then I would wait until you guys actually do your celebration this summer. In this way you could send out invitations and people will bring gifts. I hope this helps. I wish you and your FH all the best.

Most of your headache is the RECEPTION! Most brides think it's the ceremony for some reason. Having a party after the fact is still a reception. You will still have to plan food, location, decorations, etc. Either way you need to send an announcement immediately following your wedding at the court house. You can then let them know the details of your reception even if it is months away. Here are some verses to use:
