Hi ladies,
I'm new to the board and was wondering how soon is too soon to start planning. I don't have my ring yet but boyfriend and I have decided to start planning while he gets the ring. He says next year, I think two years only because we'll pay for EVERYTHING ourselves. Any suggestions?

It is NEVER too early to start planning your wedding. Especially if you are on a budget. Did you announce your wedding to family and friends yet? If not, I would do so or wait for the ring to do it. You can also buy a nice 14K Gold temporary ring
and upgrade your stone when you have been married a while. On your 10th anniversary???

I think that you can have your wedding next year even if you are paying for everything yourself. It all depends on how formal your wedding will be and if you have any ways of cutting cost. I saved money on catering because my church family is doing it for me at half the cost. my best friend is playing the organ for me and a mutual girlfriend is singing for us. I also found a few websites that you can order dresses from that are a lot cheaper than bridal salons.

I am actually in the same boat as you. My boyfriend and I set our wedding date for June 17, 2006 and I haven't gotten the ring just yet. I picked out the carat, cut and clarity of the ring and gave him 6 choices to choose from so I won't know which one he picked. I understand from my jeweler that he has started making payments on it but I don't know if he is going to give me the ring at Christmas or Valentine's Day.
At any rate we have started the initial planning for the wedding..things like making the guest list (arghhh)..that is so time consuming. Have you started there yet? My guest list seems to be the thing that is going to drive the cost for our wedding favors and reception. My number is totaling a much smaller number than I originally anticipated.
