Make-up & Tanning

A word on Make-up....Many of you all know I sell Mary Kay, but I don't wear a lot of make-up at all. I let my Mary Kay recruiter do my make-up and I hated our initial run (it was like very last minute, and I was doing her a favor to build her business as far as facials go), because she piled the foundation put all the eyeliner on with heavy lipstick and liner....So me being me, on my wedding day, I let her do the heavier than usual foundation and concealer, then she just did the brownish/purple undertone eyeshadow with lipstick and no lipliner (which I should have used looking back)-no eyeliner, just a little mascara....The point I am trying to make is that with the heavier foundation, the photographer was able to get cleaner close-ups and the pictures didn't have to be touched up/even the close-ups of us kissing....and they still looked good....so just think about your photos if you worry about make-up being to heavy...all you need to make sure is that you match it well.

Also blacks can use the tanning lotions by loreal or Lancome to even out the color on our arms and chest area to make it look even for those who have a little discoloration (It does take about 2 hours to completely dry)...I didn't use it but my sister did with a clear difference and great results.....then you don't have to use make-up there...but I wouldn't use it to cover tattoos....they aren't for that....

I heard a doctor this morning saying that the spray-ons are perfectly safe because they attach to those dead skin cells that shed in 5-7 days (which is why they have to constantly be re-applied). They don't protect from the sun however and beach ceremony brides need to still apply something with an SPF 25+ in it....

Oh, and microdermabrasion (1-2 times a week) is the bomb! Mary Kay, Avon, and Oil of Olay have great ones...using them along with the same brand cleansers, toners, and moisturisers (don'tmix brands) helps even skin tone and texture, for better application of make-up! Start now if you are more than 1 month out from the wedding:)

Thanks for the advice, Bumblebee! I had "Glamour Shot" pics about 10 years ago and the makeup artist really piled it on. I agree, it does help with closeup photos.

Thank you very much for the tips. I will certainly use them.

Anyone know of a good way to clean your pores? Mine are clogged - yes, I can see it. :-)

Have you had a facial? You can give yourself a mini facial at home. Glycolic peels and indian clay masks work well for me (they are both under $10). Also, hovering my face over a steamer helps open up the pores to be able to remove dirt and then have a good cool rinse afterwards to close the pores. I just make sure to apply gentle moisturizer afterwards. Before I got a steamer, I would put my cleanser on my face heavily, turn the shower on to create steam, then take a long shower - washing the cleanser off my face last. I'd rinse my face with cool water afterwards. Works about the same!

Great advice Classy. That does work...I do facials for myself now once every 1-2 weeks. I also do clay masks as well.

Re: Make-up & Tanning

Maybe because of stress, I started to break out here and there, so I asked my sis what she uses because her skin is sooo flawless, and it didn't used to be. She recommended Clearasil Ultra deep pore cleansing pads. It has 2% salicylic acid, so it can dry out your face a little. But boy does it work! I startd using it once every other day and then moved up to once a day, and now twice a day AM&PM as recommended and my face is the bomb now! They were pretty cheap like $6 or $8 @CVS. Good alternitive to what I was using. (nothing)

Re: Make-up & Tanning

SOme things to remember that I always always have to remind my friends:
1. If you switch brands, give it time to work! Sometimes you will not see results for 2-3 weeks. It takes time for the skin to adjust because it sheds every 7 days so, you need at least 2 shedding cycles to see even the smallest result.

2. If you decide to add a new regimin such as microdermabrasion, or masks, I suggest using on in the brand of cleanser you already use. So if you cleanse with Neutrogena or Clearasil, Ponds, Mary Kay, Oil of Olay, etc, use the moisturizers, masks, peels, etc that they make because the companies make the products to complement each other...This reduces the stress from different types of chemicals the companies use...Each company prefers their own ingredientcombinations so mixing them is really a no no....Same with Make-up...if the company doesn't carry a make-up line, use one that works for you, and is allergy tested or non-comodogenic (doesn't use known allergens). And use that brand in its entirety (the foundation, powder, concealer, etc). Its just less stress for the skin...

Re: Make-up & Tanning

I couldn't remember the name of the Clearasil pads. I could've sworn you said Olay, and that's what I bought. lol Anyway, after using it one time, my face became so soft and my FH said I said a little glow in my complexion. So, please believe I will continue to use it. The name of it is Olay Daily Facials Deep Cleansing cloths. They cleanse and exfoliate. I love it!

Really?!? Well that works out!...girl I know I could use some 'soft' I got it clear, but soft would do my face some justice. Olay has a really good moisturizer too that I used to buy (I know bumble about mixing products...but this works)If you need a moiturizer too, I'll dig into the depths of my brain (or go to CVS) and let you know.

Hi Bumblebee,

I am so happy to hear your photo's turned out beautiful. I too am a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant and can attest to a little heavier foundation beimg best for a flawless and finished look for photo's.

Ladies, keep in mind that a matte, finished face (not shiny) will photograph the best and require little if any re-touching.

Best of luck!
Amanda

Re: Make-up & Tanning

I was watching one of the old bridezilla shows and one of the girls had her make-up airbrushed. It looked lovely when they was finished. Has anyone had this done before or know's someone who has? And if so is it expensive?

Re: Make-up & Tanning

I am having my make-up airbrushed for the wedding. I loved the trial! It felt really light and after the trial I came home cleaned, cooked and sweated and the only thing that needed touching up was my lipstick. Seriously. As for price, I guess it depends on what you consider exspensive. My trial was $75 and it will be $125 the day of but I don't think that is too much to pay for flawless make up that will last and last.
