Matching the Groom

Hi,

My wedding dress is ivory and champagne. My fiance is set on not wearing a suit and he wants to wear this white linen outfit he has. I have no problem with linen, but I want to to match. Do you think I am making a big deal.

No you are difintely not making a big deal out of this Tori....it WILL look very odd in your photos if you have on ivory and champagne and he has on all white. Explain to him how importnat it is to you, I am sure he will understand. It sounds like you are having an informal wedding, so if you have not purchased the dress as yet, maybe you can purchase a white one to match his suit if all else fails. Exhaust all avenues before you give up. Everything will be just ok.

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

Well when I first set out to buy a dress I was looking for a white one, because I knew he wanted to wear his white linen. After searching, the dress that I ended up with was not white because I think it looked the best on me plus I think that ivory complements women of colour better. That is what happened? I have made sugggestions to him but he didn't like it and now hes stressing out because he knows its important to me.

Hi Torilyric,

My dress is ivory and champagne and i bet its the same as your dress (David's Bridal ) ? Well, my fiance is definately going to wear an ivory shirt under his suit because the white will throw my dress off big time. He had bought a white shirt and tie under the suit, but my dress almost looked dirty when placed next to his shirt...bad idea. So since for later on in the reception i plan on changing into another white and red dress, he can then wear his white shirt and tie later on during the reception. My suggestion to you would be that you could buy another changing dress later on for the reception and he can complement you with his white linen outfit.

Like you, when i went to try on dresses, i have every intention of buying a white dress, but as i kept trying on different white dresses, I started to realize that the white somehow did not go well with women of color and that is the reason why i ended up with the ivory dress.

Good luck and i hope that you keep your ivory and champagne dress. I did attempt to take mine back at one time, but did have the nerves to do it because i liked it so much. I was trying to find bridesmaid dresses to match the dress and it was stressing me out. So, out of curiosity, what color did you choose for the bridesmaid dresses to complement your dress ?

Tori, I just had to write again because I know how you must feel. Try talk him into wearing the linen at the reception, make him feel as though it was his idea = that way he will feel he still has control, maybe you can purchase a white linen dress to compliment him, and you get the best of both worlds ah....

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

That is a great idea to wear the linen at the reception. That way he will still be happy. We were talking last night and I asked him what is the big deal about the suit and tie and he said that there was none really. So I was like then why are you stressing yourself out and making me go through this.(Men) I tell you. Yes we probably do have the same dress. My favourite color is blue and his is yellow, so we decided to have both. They will be pastel colors. Being that it is a beach wedding it will fit (Ivory, pastel yellow & blue.
